Welcomed Jesus Into their HouseLuk 10:38-42 ESV Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. (39) And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. (40) But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." (41) But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, (42) but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her."

1. Jesus came to Bethany about 2 miles from Jerusalem, John 11:182. Jesus was in the area for the feast of tabernacles (tents or booths)

and or staying for the feast of dedication (Hanukah), John 7:10-53; 10:22-39.

3. Welcomed to the home of Martha, Mary and Lazarus.4. Only place other than the gospel of John that this family is

mentioned specifically by name, John 12:10.

Welcomed Jesus Into their HouseDo we welcome the Lord to our homes?Joh 11:23-27 ESV Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again." (24) Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day." (25) Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, (26) and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" (27) She said to him, "Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world."

Even Christians can become overcome by poor

prioritization.

Sitting at the Lord’s FeetLuk 10:39-40 ESV And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. (40) But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me."

Where’s Mary?

Bear in mind Mary was not shirking responsibility, nor lazy or careless, she was doing a “Good Portion” by focusing on the Lord’s teaching, Luke 10:42

Your Answers are found at the Feet of Jesus

1Pe 5:6-7 ESV Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, (7) casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Joh 14:15 ESV "If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

The Good PortionLuk 10:41-42 ESV But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, (42) but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her."

Ecc 12:13-14 ESV The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. (14) For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.

2Ti 2:15-16 ESV Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. (16) But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness,

The Good PortionLuk 10:42 ESV but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her."

Mary’s choices explain much.Joh 12:3-8 ESV Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. (4) But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, (5) "Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" (6) He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it. (7) Jesus said, "Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial. (8) For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me."

The Good PortionMat 26:10-13 ESV But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. (11) For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. (12) In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial. (13) Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her."

How did Mary know? Because she spent time at the Lord’s feet.Luk 10:42 ESV but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her."

What do you choose today?
