Superb locationThe programme is ideally located at Elefsina, the birthplace ofcivilisation according to the Greeksand the Romans, as well as ofAeschylus, the first tragedian. It is considered one of most importantarchaeological religious sites in theworld as a location of the Eleusinianmysteries. It is also close to manyother important sites including theParthenon, Ancient Corinth, Nemeaand Thebes.

Elefsina is a fairly large town with a wide range of amenities includinglarge shops, restaurants, cafés,libraries, a museum, summercinema and sports centre. There are good transport links to centralAthens (and the surrounding area),which is only 18km away.

Practical focusTaught entirely in English, the MAallows you to benefit from teachingby renowned international scholarswith extensive academic andpractical experience in the effectivemanagement and planning of anarchaeological site.

You gain an understanding of a wide range of issues and learn how to work effectivelywith other colleagues as well as architects, conservators,government and internationalagencies, local authorities andstakeholders, sponsors, andmarketing and educationspecialists. A major outcome of the programme is the ability to conceive, plan, fundraise andsupervise a specific project.

The MA in HeritageManagement is an intensivethree-semester postgraduateprogramme which uniquelycombines the worlds ofarchaeology and business. It is taught at Elefsina, an area of world-classarchaeological significancenear Athens, Greece. Thefocus is on the teaching of skills required for themanagement of heritagesites across the world andhow to effectively work witharchaeologists, architects,conservators, marketing and education specialistswhile also fundraising andsupervising specific projects.

Innovative collaborationThis new taught Master’sprogramme is a collaborativeventure between the University of Kent in the UK and the AthensUniversity of Economics andBusiness (AUEB), Greece, apartnership that ensures world-class tuition and an interdisciplinaryenvironment. A critical element in the local dynamism and globalrelevance of the programme is provided by the Initiative forHeritage Conservancy, an innovativeresearch and education projectwhich is supported by prominentGreek and international bodies and philanthropists.

Dual qualificationSuccessful completion of the programme requirements leads to a degree award from theUniversity of Kent and the AthensUniversity of Economics andBusiness, respectively.

Programme contentThe programme consists of a pre-sessional introductory module, fourcore modules, one or two optionalmodules and either a superviseddissertation or a collaborative studyproject, which is market-based andmakes a practical contributiontowards a real problem in thecontext of heritage management.

In the second halfof the academic year, you will havethe opportunity to work on actualprojects in Greece and abroad.
