1 Output

Output settings let you select media type or output bin for a print job, and to useRotate Collate.

Choosing Output by Media TypeSelecting Media Type lets you search for the type of paper or media that isrequested by the application or the printer driver. Available choices shown maychange depending on the selection in Paper Feed. For some models, thedefault is Unspecified and if chosen, the printing system does not switch toanother source tray if the selected tray is empty. If Auto media selection isselected, then the printing system searches for another tray or cassette usingthe same paper size or media type.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Output from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Choose a media type option from the Media Type pop-up-menu.

4 Click Print.

Choosing Output by Output BinOutput Bin specifies which tray or mailbox is used for the print job output.

2 Choose Output from the print options pop-up menu.

Printing with Rotate CollateRotate Collate stacks each copy of a print job at a right angle in the output tray.This feature requires the following:

• Paper size selections are limited to Letter, A4, 16K, or B5 (JIS).• The selected paper size must be loaded into two paper sources, one

horizontally and one vertically.

• The print job must contain multiple pages and be specified to print multiplecopies.

• For some models, a storage device must be installed.

2 Choose Output from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Select the Rotate Collate checkbox.

2 Finishing

Finishing settings let you specify document finishing features like punchingholes and stapling. An optional finishing device must be installed. A previewimage illustrates some finishing options.

Stapling a Print JobWith an optional finishing device installed, the Staple feature lets you createstapled document sets. Staple options vary by model. Staple features cannot beused together with Offset.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Finishing from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Choose an available stapling position from the Staple pop-up-menu.

4 Choose the number of sheets to staple from the Staple Method pop-up menu.

5 Click Print.

Creating Punch Holes for a Print JobWith an optional finishing device installed, the Punch feature places punchesalong the edge of the printed pages so that the pages can be bound together orplaced in a binder.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Finishing from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Choose 2 holes (inches and metric based), 3 holes (inches based), or 4 holes(metric based) punch options from the Punch Method pop-up-menu.

4 Click Print.

Setting the Finishing EdgeThe Finishing Edge feature lets you choose the source cassette to feed thelong edge or short edge of the paper into the printing system. Finishing Edgecan be used with or without the Staple or Punch feature. When used withStaple or Punch, the Finishing Edge position can be changed by selecting

Rotate 180°. The preview image shows how the Finishing Edge selectionchanges the Staple and Punch positions.

3 Choose Long edge or Short edge from the Finishing Edge pop-up-menu.

Rotating a Print JobThe Rotate 180° feature rotates the print job orientation by 180 degrees.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Finishing from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Select the Rotate 180° checkbox.

4 Click Print.

Offsetting a Print JobWith an optional finishing device installed, Offset physically shifts each print jobin the output tray. To ensure consistent offset stacking, all users printing to thesame printing system should choose Offset as the default setting. This featuredoes not work with Staple or Finishing Edge features.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Finishing from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Select the Offset checkbox.

3 Booklet / Folding

Booklet / Folding settings let you print multiple-page layouts on both sides ofeach sheet of paper. With an optional finishing device and folding unit installed,you can choose folding options for booklet, bi-fold, and tri-fold printing.

Printing a BookletYou can print and fold a document in a booklet format.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Booklet / Folding from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Choose Left edge binding or Right edge binding from the Booklet pop-upmenu to print a booklet without folding.

4 Select the Booklet Fold checkbox to fold a printed document as a booklet.

5 Click Print.

Printing with Bi-Fold or Tri-foldWith an optional folding unit installed, you can use Bi-Fold or Tri-Fold to print adocument folded in half or in thirds, for example: a brochure or a pamphlet.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Booklet / Folding from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Choose Bi-Fold or Tri-Fold from the Folding Mode pop-up menu.

4 Choose First page on inside or First page on outside from the Folding Sidepop-up-menu. This feature is available when Tri-Fold is selected.

5 Choose Right to left / Bottom to top or Left to right / Top to bottom from theFolding Direction pop-up-menu. This feature is available when Tri-Fold isselected.

6 Choose the number of sheets to fold together from the Folding Method pop-up-menu.

4 Imaging

Imaging settings let you manage print quality, color settings, and grayscalesettings.

Selecting EcoPrintEcoPrint changes toner saturation in the print job, making the entire printimage, including text and graphics, appear lighter. EcoPrint and Gloss Modecannot be used together.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Imaging from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Choose On from the EcoPrint pop-up-menu to enable EcoPrint. For somemodels, you can choose the amount of toner you want to save.

4 Click Print.

Selecting Gloss ModeGloss Mode simulates high-gloss copies by adding a glossy appearance toprinted text and images. EcoPrint and Gloss Mode cannot be used together.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Imaging from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Select the Gloss Mode checkbox.

Selecting Color ModeColor Mode lets you choose full-color printing or printing with black toner only,constraining all color settings.

3 Choose Full color from the Color Mode pop-up-menu to print full four-color textand graphics. Choose Black & White to print with black only.

4 Click Print.

Printing Grays with Black TonerPrint Grays with Black Toner prints grayscale with black only.

2 Choose Imaging from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Select the Print Grays with Black Toner checkbox.

Printing with Halftone ScreenHalftone Screen lets an experienced user print different shades of gray as arefound in photographs. Shades are produced by printing dots of various sizesand shapes, and by spacing them closer or farther apart.The following Halftone Screen options are available:

• Optimize for color smoothness : Prints larger dots, for greater variety inshades.

• Optimize for detail : Prints smaller dots, to reduce the "stairstep"appearance of curves and oblique lines.

• Optimize for line drawing : Select for printing fine lines.

2 Choose Imaging from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Choose a halftone method from the Halftone Screen pop-up menu.

Printing with Color ReproductionColor Reproduction lets you optimize the color rendering of photos andgraphics.The following Color Reproduction options are available:

• Printer settings : This option uses the printer settings only.• Text and graphics : This option is for printing documents that contain many

graphs, charts or drawings.

• Text and photos : This option is for printing documents with manyphotographic images.

• Vivid colors : This option increases the color saturation of graphics andphotos.

• Publications : This option is for printing a mix of graphics and/or photos.Select this option to print close to the color shade of the screen.

• Line art : This option is for printing figures or graphics drawn with lines.Select this option to print colored lines with pure simple color.

• PANTONE : This option uses the PANTONE color profile installed in theapplication. Select this option when using the PANTONE color swatches thatare provided with your printer software for some Adobe, Corel, and Quarkapplications.

• Custom table : This option lets you select a custom color table that waspreviously downloaded to your printing system. All other ColorReproduction options use the default color table.

• Speed priority : Select this option if the driver receives RGB data from theapplication

• Quality priority : Select this option if the driver receives full-color data fromthe application.

Printing with CMYK ProcessingCMYK Processing lets you choose how to apply color processing to your printjob depending on how color data is received from the application.The following CMYK Processing options are available:

• Printer settings : Select this option to use the settings currently on thedevice.

• 3 channels : Select this option if the driver receives RGB data from theapplication.

• 4 channels : Select this option if the driver receives full-color data from theapplication.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Imaging from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Choose a CMYK conversion option from the CMYK Processing pop-up-menu.

Setting Trapping ValuesIn color printing, color inks or toners are applied separately to a page. A colorimage has its component colors applied in color separations of cyan, magenta,yellow and black. These color separations must be aligned (registered)precisely to produce a quality full color image. During printing, the paper ormedia type may shift slightly. While the shift might be very small, the gapsbetween the colors in the image can be noticeable. Color trapping corrects it byoverlapping colors slightly so that minor alignment issues are corrected.The following Trapping options are available:

• Off : no trapping• Light : 0.5 pixel trapping• Medium : 1.0 pixels trapping• Heavy : 1.5 pixels trapping• Very heavy : 2.0 pixels trapping

Printing with CIE OptimizationCIE Optimization bypasses the normal procedure of processing every aspectof the CIE color space used in applications such as Adobe Acrobat andPhotoshop. This feature increases print speed for documents printed from theseapplications by optimizing CIE data. It has no effect on print jobs that do not useCIE data. CIE Optimization should be selected for speed not accuracy, soprinted output may be different from appearance on the screen.The following CIE Optimization options are available:

• Printer settings : Select this option to use the settings currently on thedevice.

• Disabled : Print speed is optimized by performing the normal color spacingprocess.

• Enabled : The device bypasses the normal color spacing process to optimizeprint speed.

2 Choose Imaging from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Choose a CIE optimization option from the CIE Optimization pop-up-menu.

Selecting KIRThe KIR feature smoothes the edges of text and vector graphics.

3 Choose On or Off from the KIR pop-up-menu.

Selecting ResolutionResolution can be set to 300 dpi, 600 dpi, Fine 1200 or Fast 1200. (Selectionsvary according to printing system installed.)

5 Adjustment

Adjustment settings customize the two color spaces in the driver. You canmake color space changes to hue, saturation, and lightness (HSL) or to colorbalance levels.In the preview area, you can click Details to see how the adjustment settingsappear on a page.

Adjusting Color SettingsYou can customize the two color spaces.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Adjustment from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Under Adjustment, select the Custom checkbox.

4 Select HSL (hue, saturation and lightness), to adjust the distribution andbalance of hues.

• For coordinated hue adjustment, choose Master from the Modify pop-upmenu. Drag the Hue slider to increase or decrease the value between -180and +180.

• For specific hue adjustment, choose Red, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, orMagenta from the Modify pop-up menu. Drag the Hue slider to increase ordecrease the value between -10 and +10.

• Drag each slider to adjust the Saturation, Brightness, and Contrastbetween -10 and +10.

5 Select Color Balance to adjust only the relative values of the colors red, green,and blue of RGB, or cyan, magenta, and yellow of Full color.

• Under each pair of colors, drag the slider to adjust the relative valuesbetween –10 and +10.

6 Click Print.

6 Job Settings

Job Settings offers a set of options for saving print jobs in printing systemmemory, so that you can print or reprint them later. Print jobs can easily bereprinted later using the printing system’s operation panel, and printing ofsensitive documents can be restricted to approved users.

Selecting a Job NameA Job name is a unique identifier for each print job. It helps you find and printyour job from the printing system’s operation panel.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Job Settings from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Select a Job name. Application Defined uses the name of the application, orchoose Custom and type a custom name.

4 Select an Overwrite Job Name option in case a job already exists in printingsystem memory with the same Job name:

• Replace existing file : If a job with the same User name and Job nameexists, the current print job replaces an existing job in printing systemmemory.

• Use job name + date and time : Adds the current date and time to the end ofthe Job name, in the format: mmddyy hhmmss

Printing with CollateCollate specifies the order in which the pages of a multiple copy job are printed.With Collate on, the first time the print job is sent to the printing system the datais rendered as page images in the printing system's memory. The remaining jobcopies are printed from the stored data. This avoids the extra processinginvolved in sending every copy from the computer to the printing system.The following options are available:

• Collate : The driver prints the complete job set by set.• None : The driver prints each page by set.

4 Choose Collate or None from the pop-up menu.

5 Click Print.

Printing with Quick CopyWith a hard disk installed, Quick copy lets you print a document and save it inthe printing system until the job is manually deleted or the printing system isturned off.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Job Settings from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Select the Job Storage (e-MPS) checkbox.

4 Choose Quick Copy from the pop-up menu.

5 Click Print.

Printing with Proof and HoldWith a hard disk installed or RAM disk enabled, Proof and hold lets you printone copy of a multicopy print job so that you can proof it before printing theremaining copies. After the proof copy is printed and checked, remaining copiescan be printed from the printing system’s operation panel without sending thejob again from the computer. If desired, you can change the number of copiesprinted.

2 Choose Job Settings from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Select the Job Storage (e-MPS) checkbox.

4 Choose Proof and hold from the pop-up menu.

Printing with Job StorageWith a hard disk installed, Job storage lets you store a print job permanently onthe hard disk for printing later. You also have the option of protecting the printjob from unauthorized printing by using an Access Code. Job storage jobs canonly be removed manually from printing system memory.

Job Settings

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Job Settings from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Select the Job Storage (e-MPS) checkbox.

4 Choose Job storage from the pop-up menu.

5 If you want to restrict access to your document, select Access Code and typefour numbers in the box.

6 Click Print.

Printing with Private PrintWith a hard disk installed or RAM disk enabled, Private print lets you save jobson the hard disk for printing until a four-digit Access Code is entered. When thehard disk reaches maximum capacity and a new job is sent to be stored, theoldest stored job is replaced by the new job. Private print jobs are deletedwhen the printing system is reset or turned off. If you do not want the jobdeleted, select the Job storage feature.

5 In the Access Code box, type four numbers.

6 Click Print.

Printing with Custom BoxWith a hard disk installed, Custom box lets you store print jobs until they areprinted from the printing system's operation panel. You can print one or morejobs from the hard disk. Print jobs can be deleted after printing or saved on thehard disk for 1-31 days. Custom boxes must be set up for each user at theprinting system's Command Center.

4 Choose Custom box from the pop-up menu.

5 Click Settings to open the Custom Box Settings dialog.

Selecting Job E-mail NotificationJob E-mail Notification lets you send an e-mail address with a print job. Whenthe job finishes printing, the device sends an e-mail notification to the e-mailaddress. This is useful when the device is printing many jobs and a user mustwait for a job to print.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Job Settings from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Select the Job E-mail Notification checkbox, and type a valid e-mail addressin the box.

7 Watermark

A watermark is a recognizable text that can be placed throughout a document.The following options are available:

• Watermark : Document data shows through watermark text.• Stamp : Document data does not show through stamp text.

Printing a Watermark or StampYou can add a watermark or stamp to a print job. In the preview area, you canclick Details to see how the watermark or stamp appears on a page.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Watermark from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Select the Watermark / Stamp checkbox.

4 Choose the desired text from the Select Watermark pop-up menu, or type yourown text in the Text box. The text must be in English.

5 Choose a font from the Font pop-up menu.

6 Choose the font size in points from the Size pop-up menu.

7 Choose a color from the Color pop-up menu. For Black & White printingsystems, black is the only option.

8 Choose the angle of the text from the Angle pop-up menu. Some options printthe text up side down.

9 Choose a style option from the Style pop-up menu.

10 Choose a fill option from the Fill pop-up menu. This option is available whenStamp is chosen as the Style option.

• Solid: Prints solid text.• Outline: Prints outline text.

11 If desired, select the Repeat Watermark checkbox to print multiple watermarksor stamps on each page. When cleared, one watermark or stamp is printed oneach page. This option is available when 0 degrees is chosen in the Angle list.

Adding a WatermarkYou can create a custom watermark or stamp that displays your chosen text.Any watermark can be edited, but changes in default watermarks cannot besaved. In the preview area, you can click Details to see how the watermark orstamp appears on a page.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Watermark from the print options pop-up menu.

4 Click New.

5 In the New Watermark dialog, type Name text, and click OK.

6 Choose desired settings for the new watermark or stamp.

7 Click Save. The new watermark or stamp is saved in the Select Watermark list.

You can remove a custom watermark or stamp from the Select Watermark listby choosing it and clicking Delete. Default watermarks cannot be deleted.

8 Publishing

The Publishing option lets you create covers and inserts for a print job, andinsert sheets between transparencies.

Printing with Cover ModeCover Mode lets you add cover pages for the front and back of your document.You can print on cover pages of a different weight or color than the maindocument.Although Cover Mode and Page Insert can be used simultaneously, theycannot be used with Transparency Interleaving.Two-Sided must be selected order to print using the Front Inside or BackOutside options.To add cover pages to a print job, follow these steps:

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Publishing from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Choose Cover Mode from the pop-up menu.

4 Select the Cover Mode checkbox.

5 Select Front or Front and Back, and select the Print Onto options to specifywhat type of covers to print.

6 Choose the media type or source cassette for the front and back covers fromthe Media for Cover pop-up menu.When you choose the media type, a source cassette matching that media typeis automatically selected.

7 Click Print.

Printing with Page InsertPage Insert lets you add a preprinted page or a page of a different paper typeat specified points in a print job. The inserted page can also be printed on duringthe print job. Both sides of the page insert can be printed on by using the duplexunit.Although Cover Mode and Page Insert can be used simultaneously, theycannot be used with Transparency Interleaving.Two-Sided must be selected order to print using the Print onto back option.To insert sheets into a print job, follow these steps:

Printing with Transparency InterleavingTransparency Interleaving inserts a backing sheet between printedtransparencies. The backing sheet, also known as an interleaf, helps keeptransparencies clean and prevents them from clinging together. This feature isonly available when printing on transparencies supplied from the MP tray orBypass tray. You can print the same content on the backing pages as on thetransparencies.Transparency Interleaving cannot be used together with Cover Mode or PageInsert.To insert backing sheets between transparencies, follow these steps:

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Output from the print options pop-up menu, then select Transparencyunder Media Type.

3 Choose Publishing from the print options pop-up menu.

4 Choose Transparency Interleaving from the pop-up menu.

9 User Login

You can use User Login to limit printing privileges to specified users for secureprinting and accounting. The number of pages printed by each user is trackedby the printing system.User Login must be set to On at the printing system. A maximum of 1000 UserLogin names and passwords can be assigned at the printing system.In the driver, you can use User Login or Job Accounting, not both.

Printing with User LoginAfter User Login names are assigned and User Login is set to On at theprinting system, you can print in user login mode.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose User Login from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Select the User Login checkbox.

4 Select Use Specific Name and type a name and password, or select Promptfor Name.

5 Click Print.

6 If Prompt for Name was selected, type a name and password when prompted.

10 Job Accounting

You can use Job Accounting to check the number of prints associated witheach account ID, as well as limit the number of copies for individual IDs.Account IDs can be up to 8 digits.Job Accounting must be set to On at the printing system. A maximum of 1000account IDs can be assigned at the printing system.In the driver, you can use User Login or Job Accounting, not both.

Printing with Job AccountingAfter account IDs are assigned and Job Accounting is set to On at the printingsystem, the number of pages printed is added to the selected account ID total.

2 Choose Job Accounting from the print options pop-up menu.

Creating an Account ID ListYou can create a list of account IDs to make it easier to choose IDs whenprinting.

1 Open the document you want to print and choose File > Print.If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across thebottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.

2 Choose Job Accounting from the print options pop-up menu.

3 Click the Account ID List button.

4 In the Account ID List dialog, click Add.

5 Type an account ID from 1 to 8 digits.

6 Type a description of the ID, such as a user or group.
