I always try to look on the bright side of things Some think of February as just another cold month I like to see it as the final few weeks

When Irsquom not out directing digital services Irsquom a mom of three kids all age three and under And I

have a mom-mobile minivan complete with dinosaur-sized car seats and crushed up cheerios to match So when I got the chance to test drive the all-new 2016 Hyundai Tucson yoursquod better believe I took it

I rolled up to Joe Machens Hyundai excited to see the sleek little crossover in glossy Ruby Wine red just waiting for me to check it out Leather ultra-comfortable heated seats and one of the quietest motors on the market ndash this was going to be a real treat

The SiriusXM radio was tuned to 90s on 9 ndash a little Hootie a little Janet Jackson (Sweet my high school jams) So I cranked it and cruised out of the parking lot This brief escape from minivan Mommyville was off to a great start

The Tusconrsquos turbo engine was zippy and the ride was really smooth for an all-wheel drive ndash even better than I expected Pretty soon I was bobbing my head to the beat and enjoying the view the responsive steering and the beat from the bass Not one child screaming ldquoPlease Mom let me watch Mickeyrdquo Not one french fry flying through the air No complaints no whining Just me a sweet ride and all the new car smell I could want BLISS

Itrsquos fun to escape every now and then but my kiddos are my world Vehicle safety is a top priority in my household The Tucsonrsquos safety features are super appealing lane departure warnings blind spot detection the brightest backup camera you can get (I tried it ndash awesome) and Hyundai Blue Link ndash help whenever you need it

As a mom safety is critical but so is convenience With the Tucson just download an app and you can remote start from your phone That same app can track the Tucson if someone else is driving it (your teenager perhaps) see how fast itrsquos going and where it is at all times

Canrsquot open the back hatch because your hands are full of kids and groceries Hyundai knows the struggle is real The Tucsonrsquos smart hatch opens when you stand near it No buttons no keys And itrsquos height adjustable

And of course I had to pull over and play with all the bells and whistles Technology abounds ndash Pandora Bluetooth voice-controlled navigation When did driving get so fun and easy

Oh Hyundai ndash totally unfair to tempt me like this (I really shouldnrsquot be checking out the back seat Roomy Roomier than I thought I really shouldnrsquot be thinking about how three dinosaur-sized car seats would fit hellip)

Ah reality The Tucson purred to a stop test drive over I turned in the keys and climbed into my van tossing a baby doll backward into the abyss and brushing the dust off my slacks (car wash to-do list item 4257) Some bittersweet day in the future Irsquoll be trading in the mom-mobile for something smaller and cooler ndash and the Tucson may have just moved itself to the top of my wishlist

Toyota announced its next-generation connected vehicle framework at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas Nevada accelerating its initiatives to provide its customers with greater

convenience and increased data security The framework builds on advances in automobile IT and communications systems to enhance Toyota vehicles with connected technologies

Toyotarsquos connected vehicle framework is anchored by the installation of a Data Communication Module (DCM) into a broader range of its vehicles starting with model changes in 2017 in the US market Availability will expand to additional regions and countries following the US Adding DCM will connect Toyota vehicles to cellular telecommunications networks expanding the ability to transmit data for products and services

For vehicles equipped with DCM Toyota will also provide emergency notification system as a standard feature which is activated by airbag deployment during a traffic accident and supports prompt initial response in an emergency

To build the IT infrastructure needed to support this significant expansion of vehicle data processing the company will create a Toyota Big Data Center (TBDC) in the Toyota Smart Center TBDC will analyze and process data collected by DCM and use it to deploy services under high-level information security and privacy controls

Toyota will also develop a globally uniform DCM by 2019 DCMs are currently different depending on the region and country but will become a standardized architecture The company will also in the Toyota Smart Center create a function to globally consolidate its DCM communications

At the same time when using a customerrsquos smartphone with an in-car device it is very important to help promote safer driving and the transmission of vehicle and customer information in a secure manner Toyota will jointly develop standard middleware with UIEvolution Inc (UIE) one of the leading companies in this area for application to Toyotarsquos in-car devices globally

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) today an-nounced the 2016 Chrysler 200 and the all-new 2016 Fiat 500X merit Top Safety Pick+ ratings for 2016
