Economic Loss Malnutrition is costing the INDIAN economy
2.95% of its GDP annually.

INDIA’s PRODUCTION MARET
Ranked within the world’s 5 largest producers of
over 80% of agricultural produce items.
PRODUCTION RATE
209 kg of food grains per capita per annum
in 2011-12 against the need of 300kg per
capita per annum.
WASTED OR STUNTED 43% of children under 3 years are stunted while
17% are wasted.
POPULATION
GROWTH RATE Alarming rate of 1.5% per year.
“Find out how much God has given you and from it take what
you need; the remainder is needed by others.”
- Saint Augustine
Proposed Solution A. Bringing all issues to Justice.
B. Introducing timely door to door visit to ensure correct
beneficiary.
C. Reward people on reporting malnutrition issue in a
new or unknown area if found true.
D. Make special “DEVELOPMENT HOMES” which
provide development to ones already affected.
E. Upgrade to “Computerization”.
F. Re-define poverty line.
G. Hunger of Proper Storage houses. If food is wasted
impose fine on the responsible people. Make
employees more responsible for what they do.
H. Increasing Production & upgrade seeds.
Benefits Over Existing
System
- Lesser “Food Mafias” & wastage of food.
-Reduced GHOST beneficiaries.
-Reduced bribery and scams. Lesser black money.
-New genetic species can be a better source of nutrition.
-With more knowledge, proper measures can be employed in the area to counter malnutrition.
- By making development homes we can treat the victims much better. Has a lot long term benefits.
Where Are We Lacking ???? Instead of strengthening old schemes we prefer to
make new schemes. And this process is repeated again.
Corruption & no proper measures for imparting
timely justice.
Lack Of Awareness of need of “BALANCED DIET”.
Efficiency of PDS Happy BPL A- Bringing Justice All issues related to this matter must be handled in
fast track courts. Strict punishment up to a minimum of 10 years & definitely sealing up the properties of the ones involved.
D- Development Homes With the aid of point C, homes must be created in
each zone consisting of 10,000 malnourished people. The food & health facilities to be provided by the government. Train these people in any specific activity say pot making or spinning yarn etc. The money generated can be used in funding of these development homes. Treat them & free them.
We get a group of trained people who have witnessed the need of proper diet. Who knows this might even solve the skilled workers need for our industries.
Q- 10,000 people are we crazy??
A-People wont leave their families or homes easily. This quantity can be altered as per need anytime.
B- Attacking Ghost Beneficiaries
Introduce concept of door visiting in order to
check the needed beneficiary. If any fake card is
detected both the card holder & concerned officers
should be prosecuted as stated in point A.
C- Rewarding People Give 6 weeks time to concerned officers to submit reports of malnourished people & bogus cards in their areas.
Now, whenever a contradiction is reported in this context, reward the informer from the salary of each concerned
officer after a cross examination founds the new claim true. The cross examination should not be made by the officer
involved in the submission of initial report.
REWARD (in Rs.) = (No of reported individuals)* (0.1% of salary in Rs)
“There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot
appear to them except in the form of bread.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
F- Redefining Poverty Line We found out that in cities a
backward individual has to at least spend
Rs 16.2 per time to feed himself excluding
the cooking cost. The current quantity
given by planning commission needs to be
redefined. It should be image of the
inflation rates.
G. Make Workers Responsible
Introduce the concept of personal
responsibilities in case of lapses. New
definitions are needed to be laid for roles
of each position. There should be no
hesitation on imposing fine on the guilty.
E- Computerization Involvement of computer needs to be
increased to limit the human interference and
data manipulation. The AADHAAR could be
quite effective. For e.g. computer says – “No
ration until the fingerprint gets matched”.
H. Production & Its Variety There is a need to produce about 33% more and go on increasing it to keep pace with the growing population and matching need of food. Increased production will also aid in lower prices. Also we should immediately think of developing new varieties as they take up to 10 to 12 years. Also our farming techniques are outdated and they are screaming for an upgrade.
Cost= (Construction Cost + Food & Hospitality + Transportation+ salary) – Revenues
FUNDING The funding of “DEVELOPMENT HOMES”
is majorly a one time investment.
Will prove efficient in the long run. It deals :-
Unemployment
Awareness
Skilled Labor Industrial Needs
Malnutrition
Estimating Cost a) Staff- 1 In charge and 1 trainer. Medical
facilities to be provided by the nearest
governmental hospital. All the work like
cooking, maintenance etc. to be done by
learners.
b) Food Cost- To discover this controversial cost
we tried it out first. Calculated OTC*
1 kg wheat flour= Rs 20 / made 25-30 chapattis
1 kg pulse= Rs80 Fruits = 40 per week
1 kg rice= Rs26 Refined Oil=Rs100/litre
LPG=Rs427.50 (for family of 4 at 3 OTC’s)
max life was observed to be 40days.
Vegetables = 200gm/ Rs9 per OTC
*OTC: one time consumption
## The cost was calculated from a shopping plaza. Prices to go down for wholesales.
The trained workers will only aid in higher GDP. Our nation kids
would start to learn at a small age & this won’t be child labor. We
would save million rupees from “BEROJGARI BHATTA”. Kids
wouldn’t suffer from poor mid day meals as their fathers would be
cooking it. We would have all the time to inculcate our people into
anything we want.
The best result would be that people would not have to depend
entirely on government after they are trained.
“ Donate food to hungry. You make him learn to be dependent on others for food.
Donate him the art of earning food. Others are dependent on him for food”
- Anonymous
OTC’s Based Prices:- Chapattis: 3 piece/ Rs2 Rice: 100gm/ Rs2.6
Pulses:50gm/ Rs4 Oil: 60gm/ Rs6 Veggies=Rs 9
Fruits: Rs 2.86 LPG: Rs 0.890/ 1 person
Final Cost= Rs 27.35 per time per person
“When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.”
― Helder Camara, Dom Helder Camara: Essential Writings
MONITORING Monthly progress reports of each
individual to be submitted to District Magistrates of each zone. The report should be signed/ thumb impressioned by all the dwellers of Development Homes. To sign would mean to agree. If more than 75% satisfied then quota food sanctioned for next month. Else solve the problem which may include suspension of accused staff. Sub-DM’s will have to visit these homes and meet people individually. Complaints to be noted. Reports of both DM as well as Sub DM to be submitted to Ministry of Consumer Affairs without any disclosure. If both reports fail to match then investigation procedures to begin. Complaint can be made individually anytime to the above ministry. Identity need not be disclosed.
Criteria & Lifespan More than 75% satisfaction necessary.
Report of the In charge to examined by
DM & forwarded to concerned Ministry.
Sub DM also to prepare his report and
submit it. Both reports should match. If it
doesn’t something's fishy.
Max time for a person to stay in this
shelter shall be 6 months subject to a
maximum of 1 year on the
recommendation of In charge or SDM.
“Find out how much God has given you and from it take what you need; the
remainder is needed by others.”
- Saint Augustine
Financial Backing A need of Rs27.35 per time per person means Rs1641
per person if eating twice a day.
For 100 people feeding twice a day sum goes to Rs1,64,100 which is a very large sum. Hence, initially this process should be carried in those areas suffering from heavy malnourishment. Especially target the mothers or the ones which are pregnant.
Political Support This is perhaps the toughest part as law makers are involved in leakages of governmental policies. Many ministers are associated with heavy frauds be it of any party. They would have to realize that a nation cannot be at peace when its individuals are hungry.
Individual Support All aside the need of support from the individual people is the most important thing. It won’t be
easy making people leave their places and have their co-ordination. During the making of this
presentation we discovered that there were places where local NGO’s were better connected with
local people than the government. Hence, in order to gains people support we first would have to
convince the NGO’s.
