JESSIE J – WHO YOU ARE

The image used for the advert is the same as the album cover – a convention of magazine advertisements

Her name and the album name is placed underneath her face to draw attention to herself. It is written in bold text so that the audience can immediately put a face to a name if they don’t know who Jessie J is.

The biggest hit from the album has been used to appeal to people who aren't necessarily fans of Jessie J but like the song

The lettering used to promote the artist typically becomes what the public associates the artist with. This is present in many magazine covers and album covers. This is something we’d definitely like to present in our work.

B.o.B’s name has been used to draw in his fan base and persuade them to buy Jessie J’s album

Jessie J’s record label logo’s are positioned in the left and right hand corner to promote and show respect to them

Jessie J’s website is placed in small print underneath to give the public access to more information about her

The advert is simple making it easy to read and the information can easily remain in the reader’s mind

ELLIE GOULDING - LIGHTS

Ellie’s name has been placed at the top of the advert in the same writing as the album cover for Lights to establish her.

Underneath is a description of the sensation that you feel when you listen to Ellie’s music, this is unusual for a magazine advert as many don’t contain a lot of text.

The photograph of Ellie used is different from the album cover and some readers may not have a clear idea of what she looks like as you cannot see her face in the pose.

The advert also lists Ellie’s achievements as an artist in different sized glowing boxes to entice the reader into listening to her music if they already don’t. This is incredibly unusual for magazine adverts to do this, but very common for billboards and television adverts.

Underneath is a number of reviews from popular music magazines and daily newspapers worldwide praising Ellie’s music – this is a common convention of magazine adverts.

The advert is incredibly different from others as it is heavily text-based.

RIHANNA - LOUD

The main image used is different from the actual album cover, a convention in some magazine adverts.

Her name and the album name are placed at the top and the centre of the poster to establish the artist and the name of the album. They are separate so that they don’t interfere with the image of her.

The current single from the album at the time Only Girl is used to promote the record. Additionally her collaboration with Eminem Love The Way You Lie is also used to draw in his fan base and persuade them to buy the album.

Eminem’s contribution to the album will also intrigue people that were fans of their collaboration to listen to the second part and the rest of her album.

There is additionally an image of the album in the bottom right hand corner to familiarize them with the album cover and again persuade them to buy it if they come across it in stores

Bright colours have been used connecting the poster easily to the name of the album, the music on the album and the theme of the album.

It is easy to tell that the poster is from the same campaign even without the image of the album cover, we would like to incorporate this in our work as well.
