A mid shot which conveys a rather arrogant persona, as Noel Gallagher poses with a cup and saucer looking quite ‘smug’.

The main cover line feature is in sans serif which looks quite old fashioned which links to the fact that he is posing with a cup and saucer, drinking tea which is classed as a very traditional British thing to do.

The layout of the front cover is very conventional.

The text of the main feature cover line and strap line is outlined in black and white to draw more attention from the reader.

The masthead ‘NME’ clearly stands out at the top left hand corner of the page, taking up about a tenth of the page using a dramatic, bold font. The font in red and black has connotations of rebellion, which stresses the type of music this magazine focuses on.

This magazine cover follows the conventions of having the eye lines in the top third.

The use of the word ‘PLUS!’ at the start of the footer suggests there is a lot going on in the magazine.

The cover line ‘OUT OF CONTROL’ add drama and interest and also anchors the image as all the celebrities featured on the front page are pulling quite ‘crazy’ facial expressions.

The fact that there is a lot of different celebrities featured on the front page suggest to the reader that there is a lot of information to be red inside the magazine.

There is a big use of primary colours on the front page (red yellow and some blue) the other colours are also quite simple yet eye catching and bright,

Features like this entice the read on and find out the ‘gossip’.

• Colours of fonts are fluoro which fits in with the urban theme of the magazine

• The main selling line is bold and In a slanted font, this grabs the readers attention as it stands out from the other fonts.

• The ‘Janet Jackson’ anchors the image which has connotations of sexual

voyeurism.

• the tag line ‘Likes to watch’ links to the image of Janet Jackson looking through a camera.

The colour scheme of different shades of pink targets the audience of young girls, aged 8-14

‘love, the sh! Team xxx’ is in a font which imitates hand writing, this makes it feel more personal to the reader.

The top third/section of the page represents that of a notice board a girl of the target age may have in their room, making it more appealing to them.

Music acts that are featured in the magazine are written in bold here to make them stand out.

The words ‘This week’ are used as an alternative to ‘contents’.

The NME magazine has a house layout for its contents page.

The house colours red and black are used throughout the magazine.

It is conventional to have sub features down the right hand side of the page such as reviews and news.

‘Carl Barat’ poses as he imitates an iconic image.

The magazine MOJO doesn’t have the words ‘contents’ or ‘this week’ to make it clear it’s the contents page but just repeats the magazine name at the tome of the page.

Head line

Pull quote gives the reader a sense of what to expect and entices them to read on and anchors the image.

The red font shows up against the black and white background photo of Pete Doherty.

The contents page just includes the main features in the magazine and only refers to four different pages, it is quite minimalistic

A minimal amount of colours are used for this contents page, to put emphasis on the picture of Pete Doherty .

Following the conventions and including the issue number at the top next the the head line.

The theme of pink still carries on throughout the magazine to appeal to the target audience of young girls.

Drop cap

Action shots of the band go-karting makes the article seem more personal to the reader, as if they're getting a real insight in on the day of McFly.

Games add a sense of fun to the article and also appeals to the target age group.

The article is divided into three thirds, to make it appealing to look at.

Reviews of music DVDs are featured on this double page.

Stars are used to inform the reader of the rating of the DVD.

Illustrations are used to anchor the text of the article.

The pictures on the page are presented as if taken by a Polaroid, this makes the article feel more personal.

The headline is on the right hand page at the top in the right hand corner, this isn’t very conventional.

A drop cap is used at the start of the text to draw attention to the reader where to read from.
