Magazine Cover 4 Production Process (LO4)- Music Magzine

Magazine Production Step 1I first of all inserted the masthead, using the website ‘Dafont’ to print screen the font of my title and used the crop tool to cut it down to size. There was difficulty fitting the masthead behind the image so I used the rubber tool on Photoshop to erase any overlaying text covering the

models head. This title stylistic of positioning text behind the main focal point being the musician is a common feature of a music magazine as seen i n kerrang and

NME to give their stars priority.

Step 2Next I began adding key shapes and a puff/splash. I then used the eraser tools textured setting in photoshop to tear and texture the shapes giving it the grunge style often typical conventions of this rock genre of music magazine. I used bright primary colours such as yellow and red to immediately draw attention to both the left and right hand side of the cover image, giving my sell lines equal priority on the page

Step 3 I then began to add text to my image. I established my main headline featuring ‘Harry Bloomfield’ in bright text and bold font to convey headline importance over other sell lines and I have used a army stencil to conform to the genre stylistic conventions of grunge for my magazine. I then downloaded other text from DaFont.com and printed featured stars on my skyline. I finally added the rest of my sell lines and the puff advertisement text at the bottom, as well as adding a barcode to re establish the layout conventions of my magazine.

Step 4For my second to last final touches I added images relating to enclosed featured articles inside and added my poster ads for my puff advert.

Final Image- Completed

Step 5For my final touches I added another shape of a stripe going across my magazine to contain excess headline information of Harry Bloomfields interview and added my last sell line being the magazines recommended ‘Top Ten’ picks linking to the images around the sell line. I finished by adding paint brush back paint strokes behind the sell lines on the right to further highlight their importance and bring attention to all areas of the image. For the overall stylistics of my magazine I took inspiration for my colour scheme and rugged features from such music magazines as Kerrang, NME and Q as all have similar layout features.
