Magazine Cover Evaluation

By James Baird Hutchinson

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge the forms & conventions of

real media products? In my Magazine cover as you

can see I kept to the same

conventions as normal

magazine. I kept a Masthead,

made use of the left third also

with a main image. The use of a

dateline is also mirrored from

popular magazines as to make it

look more professional. I have

furthermore used kickers and

explanatory text to give make the

reader more engaged with the

cover and to think it is more

likable. I liked the touch of the peeling

sticker as I had seen I done before

In a high street fashion mag.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Groups Represented:

• Youth – By having one as the main image

• Urban – The main image is in the city

• Different Ethnic Groups – the model is mixed race

• Teenagers in years 12-13 – the model is in year 12

What kind of media institution might distribute your media

product and why? I designed my product to be

distributable to sixth forms all over the

country. It doesn’t matter if they are

state or private and it would be

available to boys, girls and teachers.

Each sixth form would have its

own student editor who adds in local

school news in addition to the

national news that already comes

with it. But the national news would

be published my a student team in a

central location.
