Empire

Empire is a British film magazine published monthly by Bauer Consumer Media. Their first issue was in July 1989. They are aimed at a mainstream audience and they are the biggest selling film magazine in the UK. They are also published in the USA, Australia, Turkey, Russia and Portugal. They wouldn’t tend to go for horror genre films as their front cover as this doesn’t appeal to their mainstream audience however they would put films like Wolverine as the front cover because this will appeal to a mass audience.

The colours of gold are used for the fonts on the magazine cover. Gold is a really prestige colour so therefore makes the importance of the magazine stand out.

Putting the main character of wolverine on the front cover of the magazine, making him look intimidating with the weaponry that he’s holding and the look in his eye. He embodies everything that action film is meant to have in terms of the fact that he is strong and fierce.

Target audience for this magazine is mainly aimed at females.

I chose both these magazine covers because they represent different things but still both appeal to women. On the left there is a picture of Anne Hathaway who is a very famous female actress. She is dressed in a provocative yet classy way which is what most women would want to aim to look like. On the right magazine cover, there is a picture of Leonardo Di Caprio due to the fact that he has the starring role in the film The Great Gatsby. STUDIO put full pictures of people that they know will be appealing to their female target audience because they’re more tempted to pick up the magazine and read it.
