E’ il 1858 quando Francois Philippe - esponente della comunità svizzera che animava la vita economica e culturale della fiorente e raffinata capitale del Regno delle Due Sicilie - inizia a disegnare i primi orologi da polso dell’epoca, e li fa produrre nel Giura svizzero, sua patria di origine. Un viaggio eccezionale per quei tempi, ma l’ingegno dell’uomo ci ha abituati a queste storie straordinarie. E quella di Philip Watch è una storia straordinaria.

It was 1858 when Francois Philippe – a member of the Swiss community which was the driving force of the economic and cultural life of the flourishing and refined ca-pital of the Kingdom of Two Scillies – began to design the period’s first wristwatches. He then had them produced in the Swiss Jura, his homeland. For the times, it was an exceptional journey, but the ingenuity of that man has since accustomed us to these extraordinary story. And indeed Philip Watch has an exceptional story to tell.

Nato nel 1858, il marchio “Philippe Watch” viene depositato presso il regi-stro di Napoli e successivamente Philippe Watch si fa conoscere come uno tra i primi marchi dell’orologeria mondiale a realizzare orologi da polso, in un mondo allora caratterizzato esclu-sivamente dai modelli da tasca.

La notorietà e l’autorevolezza del mar-chio diventa tale da siglare un accordo con la famosa casa di orologeria Svizzera Patek Philippe per modificare il nome in Philip Watch. Gli orologi Philippe Watch infatti, per qualità tecni-ca, venivano spesso associati alla pre-stigiosa maison orologiera.

Established in 1858, the “Philippe Watch” brand was registered in Naples. Subsequently Philippe Watch went on to become one of the world’s leading wristwatch brands, in a world that had only used pocket models until then.

The reputation and standing of the brand was such that an agreement was sealed with the famous Swiss watchma-ker, Patek Philippe, to change the name to Philip Watch. In fact the technical quality was such that Philippe Watch timepieces were often associated with the prestigious watch-making maison.

Philip Watch made headway in the world of Chronographs in the ‘40s. These were amongst the most popular watches from the start of the last cen-tury, because they were seen as being fully-fledged professional instruments. The ’60s witnessed a complete techni-cal revolution in the field of scuba diving watches, thanks to the monoblock case of the Caribe 1000, which was water-proof to a depth of 1000 m.

Philip Watch si fa strada negli anni ‘40 nel mondo dei Cronografi, orologi tra i più apprezzati già dall’inizio del seco-lo scorso poichè considerati dei veri e propri strumenti professionali. Negli anni ’60 si assiste ad una vera ri-voluzione tecnica nell’ambito degli oro-logi subacquei, grazie alla cassa mono-blocco dei Caribe 1000 che permette un’impermeabilità sino a 1000 mt.

Gli anni ’80 vedono la nascita della pre-stigiosa collezione Seahorse: l’orologio classico sportivo con elementi di de-sign.Ancora oggi Philip Watch con i suoi orologi continua a portare nel mondo questa grande tradizione, fedele ai va-lori della propria storia.

La sua storia ha origine nella minuscola cittadina di Le Lieu, nella Valle di Joux, dove Marcel Dépraz fonda nel 1901 la “Marcel Dépraz, société individuelle, fabrication et posage de mécanismes en tous genres”, vincendo la medaglia d’oro all’Esposizione Cantonale di Vaud. In pochi anni, con l’aiuto del figlio Eugene, Marcel Dépraz inizia a produrre egli stesso i calibri da montare sugli orologi, divenendo un vero punto di riferimento nel mondo delle complicazioni e deimovimenti cronografici, grazie alla perfezione assoluta delle sue creazioni.Philip Watch porta oggi nel mondo una grande tradizione e un nuovo concetto di eleganza senza confini e senza tempo, proiettato nel futuro e guidato dallo stile.Prendere un altro pezzo del libro, non parlare del movimento ma della tradizione italiana.

His story originated in the tiny town of Le Lieu, in the Joux Valley, where Marcel Dépraz founded “Marcel Dépraz, société individuelle, fabrication et posage de mécanismes en tous genres”. In 1901 the company won the gold medal at the Cantonal Exhibition of Vaud. In the space of a few years, and with the help of his son Eugene, Marcel Dépraz began producing the calibres himself for assembling in watches. The absolute perfection of his creations ensured that he soon became a point of reference in the world of complications and chronograph movements. Today Philip Watch has acquainted the world with a truly great tradition, and a new concept of timeless, boundless elegance, projected into the future and guided by style.Take another piece of the book. Philip Watch’s great feather in the cap are the complica-tions, some of which realized in collaboration with Dubois Depraz, the most famous Swiss producer of elaborate movements.
