Whats the first thing that comes to mind when someone tells youi own a Starlet... a small car, no power, not that fancy, in short avery basic office - home car. Well there are those and then thereis the Starlet Glanza, the wild child of the starlet series.The Starlet Glanza is the sports version of the P90 generationStarlet, and is the successor to the 80 series normally aspiratedStarlet 1.3 Gi and Starlet GT Turbo. The Glanza S was powered bythe naturally aspirated 1331 cc 4E-FE and the Glanza V waspowered by the turbocharged 1331 cc 4E-FTE. The turbo4E-FTE used in the Glanza V generated 133 PS (98 kW; 131 hp)at 6400 rpm with a 0–100 km/h time of 8.3 seconds(factory brochure stats).

We look at a very special one of a kind Glanza V, made fromground zero here in Tanzania. What started as a hobby or projectcar turned into reality. MotorBazaar magazine were lucky enoughto get to know this “wild child” abit more closer. Location of theshoot, slipway ship yard.. as it entered, heads turned, businessstopped for a second, some of them were taking out their phonesand taking pictures. Coming to the point, as my photographerworked hi magic, i got to know more about the car.

The engine is highly modified, giving about 200BHP, runningon 1.1 bar boost. The boys at gear tech performance did theirjob right. Interestingly, the later Glanza Turbo models also had a‘dual-mode’ turbo, which allowed the driver to switch betweentwo factory preset boost levels. The turbo however has beenreplaced by a bigger and better turbo. The famous TD04L, usedmostly in Subarus.

A Zisco Manifold, Zisco downpipe assisted by a 38mm Ext wastegatewith a Screamer pipe helps the car attain enough back pressure, makingevery driving experience a memorable one. So smooth yet so deadly...interesting combo isnt it?Other extras are a SARD R2D2 BOV making sure all the bad air is out.The ECU has been replaced with a GREDDY emanage ultimate ECU.Shifting has never been this easy, thanking the Exedy stage 3 clutch.Adding the cherry on top is a TRD shortshifter. Those who dont knowhow to drive manual cars, well report to the nearest driving school.You dont know what you guys are missing out on.

The stock seats are replaced with SIMOTA racing seats. Its bright yellow and black color scheme adds moreflavour to the cars spicy looks. Very comfy indeed. I guess you need that comfort when in high speeds. Givesyou that reassurance, life is great. The AC system has been removed allowing more performance parts to be fit.“All for performance bro, we even sacrifised the AC..”

The Exterior now. With its meaner engine, comes a meaner look to match. The stock bonnet is replaced by alow weight carbon fiber bonnet. The bodykit used is a JAM racing kit. The rims are 16”0Z F1 racing wrappedon Yokohama 205/45. WMS 4 piston brake kit helps the car come to a standstill at a blink of an eye.Yes it is hotter than it seems. Making heads turn is not an easy task, but this makes it look like childs play.

To cool it all off a performance air intake and a Toyosports frontmountintercooler handles it all very well.

Atlast the end of the shoot. We enjoyed a little bit of sunset and headedin our own directions. All in all, dont know about you guys but myimpression of a Starlet has changed. With a lot of Msimbazi’s, anddedication of course your every day car can also make heads turn.
