Hannah ChyriwskyFRONT COVER

For the font I chose to use ‘Full House’ because it is a bold and easy to read font. So by using this it will stand out against other text on the front cover. So to make it stand out against the other pieces of text this specific font style will only be used on mastheads or main sell lines/titles. In these screenshots it shows the order that I have done things in. I decided to start off with the main sell line and masthead because it then allowed me to see how much space I had for the sell lines, sky line and barcode. The font that I used for the sub text is American Typewriter as it a clear style to read when it is any size, also because when it is bold it is still readable unlike other font styles.

I chose to use the colours of pink and blue because they are commonly found on pop magazines and the two colours go well with each other. So as these two colours have been used on the front cover it means that they will be used throughout the magazine. For the blue I decided to make it brighter so that you are able to see it over the main image, then I used a dark pink for the subheadings which can be seen over the main image. On the text I added a black outline around the text which makes it clearer to the reader then if it didn’t.

Finally, for the Skyline I decided to add a solid rectangle so that the text would be noticeable and easy to read. For the rectangle I made it a pale pink so that it blends in slightly with the background colour and because with the black text over the top it is easier to read than if I were to use a solid blue background.

Just like the subheadings I used the same font and colour for the sell line titles. This is because they are all sell lines so they do the same job as they are trying to attract people into buying the magazine. By making the text pink it is noticeable to the reader because it is over the main image which is blue also because the text is near to the main sell line and masthead I don’t want it looking to similar because then all of the text on the front cover will be blue. Then for the small descriptions of the sell lines I made the text colour blue so that it the audience can see the difference between the sell lines and description. However, I did use a different blue because these pieces of text aren’t as important as the other pieces of text that are in blue.

Most magazines have the barcode on the right hand side of the magazine so that’s why I placed mine on that particular side. To put the barcode in I saved the image so that I was able to put it onto the magazine as a separate layer which meant that I could move it around easier. The reason why I put it on a pink rectangle is so that the details around it will be clear to read, I put the price by the barcode because it is a noticeable place on where somebody will look for a price if they are going to buy the product.

Hannah ChyriwskyCONTENTS PAGE

For the subheadings the font I used was American Typewriter. The reason I used this font is because it is the same font as the sell lines and I only want to use two different fonts throughout the magazine. When writing the contents for my contents page I used the same font as it is a clear font to read, also because if I were to use ‘full house’ the font won’t look as good small because it is a bold style font so it will be hard to read. As descriptions are given on the contents page I made the subheadings larger and in capital letters so that it is clear to the reader where one piece of information starts and ends. So for the descriptions of what the page is about the text is smaller but still clear to read.

For the contents page I opened up a new document that was the same size as the front cover. Just like the front cover I have a pale pink rectangle at the top of the page. Then for the title I used the same font as I did for the masthead on the front cover. This is because in magazines the same font is used for the masthead and the title. Then for the title it is a similar size to the main sell line, which allows it to standout against the other pieces of text.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

For the contents page I need to add an image on so I chose one that linked in with the sell lines. I paced it over a pink rectangle so that it will have a border around It to make it more noticeable above the paint splats. For the paint splats I used pink and blue as they are the most common colours used throughout my magazine. I added a subscription box as that is a common feature on a contents page. I created a second cover quickly just to add to the subscription box to make it clear that there would be a second issue to come out at the specific date.

For the double page spread I decided to put the article and photos on separate pages, mainly so that the layout is clear. For the questions to be clear against the answers I made them pink so the reader will know where one question starts and one ends. To add my article onto InDesign I added three text columns and copy and pasted it from the word document. I made the pull quote the same as the main title so that it stands out against the text that is around it. Then for the main image because it is made up of four separate photos I made the main image on Photoshop so that it will now be one image.
