At the beginning o 2008 the International O shore Team Association (IOTA) reached anagreement with the Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF) to launch Class 1 or Dhreima an initiative to support the Qatar Orphan Foundation.

Sheikh Hassan Bin Jabor Al-Thani, President o the QMSF and IOTA, was instrumental inencouraging Class 1 a sport in which he has been a leading gure since 2003 to becomean active vehicle to raise awareness o the oundation. In presenting this initiative I wanted toemphasise how sport, in whatever orm or however extreme, can support the values and theimportance o the activities o an organisation such as the Qatar Orphan Foundation.

During the course o the year, the association between Class 1 and Dhreima developed aseries o activities and events that took place at races, with the purpose o highlighting theactivities o Dhreima and nding synergy with similar organisations based in countries thathost Class 1 GP events.

The Qatar Orphan Foundation - Dhreima was launched on 10, June 2003 under the patronageo Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser Al-Misnad, Chairman o the Supreme Council. Wein the Qatari Orphan Foundation believe that our community values o solidarity, compassionand cooperation make us truly capable o providing all the support the children need, saidNabil Ali Bin Ali, Chairman o the Dhreima Board, adding. and we are extremely happy thatthe Class 1 Championship has elected to support the Foundation.

VICTORY ON THE BRINK OF EIGHTH WORLD TITLE

The race or the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship is, barring some extraordinarycalamity, a two-boat race. But the one remaining question is which out t Victory 1 or

Victory 7 will li t the Dubai Teams eighth World crown in sixteen years.

Victorys record is quite remarkable; they won their rst world title in their debut seasonin 1993, took back-to-back titles in 1995 and 1996 and a hat-trick o titles rom 1999to 2001. The next ve years saw their great rivals, Spirit o Norway, dominate, but theyregained their crown last year and are well and truly on course to add another.

Over the last sixteen years and rom 128 starts, Victory has won 63 Grands Prix, nishedsecond 63 times and third 47 times. They have nished rst and second 18 times and

completed a clean sweep o the podium on no less than eight occasions.

In addition to their current seven World titles, they have won the European Championship

ve times, the Middle East title twice andhave quali ed quickest 39 times to win vePole Position Championships.

The home o Watersports in Dubai

In 1990, Mr. Saeed Hareb and Mr. Sai Al Sha ar were given the responsibility

to develop traditional, as well as modern watersports events. Because o t he

nature o his relationship with the sea, which is based on experience, expertise

and his amily background, Saeed Hareb was appointed Managing Director o

    the marine club.

Mina Seyahi had a natural slipway or the launching o boats and dhows and it

was the vision o HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum that brought about

the trans ormation o the area into a modern Marina, enabling yacht owners to

    moor their boats.

In 1994, the vision o HH the late Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum,

Ruler o Dubai, saw the o cial creation, through a ormal decree, o the Dubai

International Marine Club (DIMC). DIMC was declared the only watersports body

authorised to organise watersports activities and competitions in the Emirate

    o Dubai.

On 5th October 2003, the Rulers Court appointed HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed

Al Maktoum as its Chairman, with a Higher Council to take care o the daily

activities o the Club. Ever since, the Club has gone rom strength to strength:

it was the rst Arabic organisation to be accorded ull membership o the world

governing body or motorised watersports Union Internationale Motonautique

(UIM) - the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), the International Canoeing

Federation (ICF) and the International Rowing Council (IRC).

Over the years, Mina Seyahi Dubai - DIMC has organised several national

and international events that have won them acclaim and awards as Best

Organiser. The in rastructure at DIMC is on a par with any other international

    watersports body.

Why is it called Mina Seyahi Dubai?

Mina Seyahi, meaning pleasure harbour has, over the years, witnessed an

unprecedented number o local and international watersports events that have

right ully earned it the title o The home o Watersports in Dubai. From its

humble beginnings as a small harbour, Mina Seyahi has grown to accommodate

a ully-fedged leisure hub, eaturing a 295-berth Marina, the Le Meridien Mina

Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina and the spectacular The Westin Dubai, Mina

    Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina.

The branding o the Mina Seyahi Dubai, and the introduction o The Westin

Hotel, mark a new era in this remarkable piece o real estate, which is destined

to urther de ne the uture o watersports in Dubai. The Mina Seyahi Dubai is

a division o DIMC (Dubai International Marine Club), the o cial authority or

    watersports in the UAE.

In the late 1970s, HH the late Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum had the

vision o having three distinctive areas in the Emirate o Dubai. His oresight

led to the creation o the Jebel Ali Free Zone as the industrial area, Mina Seyahi

was to cater or the tourists pleasures hence Mina Seyahi and the central

area o Dubai was to serve as the residential locality. In 1988, the Dubai Marine

Club was ormed to promote watersports in Dubai. Resources were limited at

the time and traditional races were organised with the help o volunteers and

o cial partners in the government.
