Magic Wallet 6 1/2” x 3 1/4” Closed By Robin Gallagher, www.robinquiltsetc.com Supplies Needed: A piece of very ridge and thin cardboard (enough to cut 4 - 6 1/2” x 3 1/4” pieces. After a lot of shopping I found Mat Board to work the best. A piece of fabric (enough to cut 4 - 7 1/2” x 4 1/4” pieces). Optional: if you’d like the outside fabric different then the inside cut 2 of each. 1 yard of 3/4” ribbon Glue Stick - I like Elmer’s purple school glue (you can see it and then it disappears). 6 1/2” x 3 1/4” Closed

By Robin Gallagher, www.robinquiltsetc.com

Supplies Needed:

• A piece of very ridge and thin cardboard (enough to cut 4 - 6 1/2” x 3 1/4” pieces. After a lot of shopping I found Mat

Board to work the best.

• A piece of fabric (enough to cut 4 - 7 1/2” x 4 1/4” pieces). Optional: if you’d like the outside fabric different then the

inside cut 2 of each.

• 1 yard of 3/4” ribbon

• Glue Stick - I like Elmer’s purple school glue (you can see it and then it disappears).

• Spray Glue - I used Scotch Super 77 by 3M. It is a multi-purpose adhesive that has a very

strong, durable bond. It stays very tacky prior to making a permanent bond.

Cutting Instructions

• 4 - 6 1/2” x 3 1/4” Mat Board (a very thin, ridged board)

• 4 - 7 1/2” x 4 1/4” Fabric

• 4 - 9” length of 3/8” Ribbon

Start by adhering the fabric to one side of each of 4 mat boards. Use a glue stick to hold the edges in place, make sure

your corners are nice and neat.

On the back of one board (this will be an inside piece) draw a line 1” from each end.

On the back of a second board (this is an inside piece) draw a line 1 3/4” from each end. While you’re at it mark a big X

in the center. This will be the side that will have the ribbon attached with an X.

Before going any further, go outside (it can be messy) and spray the glue on both inside pieces. They should stay tack-

ing long enough for you to accomplish the next several steps.

Lay the ribbons underneath the inside piece that has the 1” markings. Fold both the ribbons at the top straight down and

press them in place using the 1” mark as a guild.

Next lay two ribbons under the piece marked with the X. The ribbons should cross each other on the underside. Fold

the bottom ribbon up and press to adhere. Trim the end of the ribbon if it’s too long.

Pull the two pieced right next to each other while pulling the loose ribbon up through the center The trick here is that the

ribbons will get attached to the other piece.

Start with the straight ribbon that is attached to the top piece. Pull it taunt and stick it down to the bottom piece. Pull the

crossed ribbon from the bottom piece and pull them taunt and attaché them to the top piece. Make sure everything is

nice an snug. Since the spray glue at this point is only tacky, you should be able to make any adjustments necessary.

Now, go back outside and evenly spray the wrong side of the outside pieces.

Attach them to bottom pieces, enclosing the loose ends of the ribbon. Once everything is lined up and you’re happy with

it. Press everything firmly together and let the glue set so that everything is held firmly in place.

Now it’s time to give it a try.

Open and place a dollar inside. Close the wallet.

Open from the other side Ad then the close and open the other

and see the dollar go behind side and see it move.

the ribbon.

That’s all there is to making a magic wallet. If you’d like to watch a video of me making one you can go to Youtube and
