TMSE is doing many found raisers this year. We have spoken with both Mrs. Gerkin and Ms. Hester about a fundraiser called Pennies for Peace. Each classroom has jars that can be filled with coins by the students. “I feel it is a wonderful opportunity for are students to give to children especially girls, so they may get a education like we do,” she said. Survey shows: Pizza and burgers popular cafeteria favorites at TMSE

By Charlie Clark

Miss Bohon is a new homeroom teacher at the magnet school. She was inspired by her dad’s love for lifelong learning. Her advantages to teaching are getting to spend the day with kids, learning with her students and having the summer off. Her disadvantages are having a

hard time letting the day go. The hardest thing about being a teacher is fitting everything into one day. The hardest behavior to handle is defiance. She handles defiance by encouraging students to make the right choice. “I am blessed to be a teacher at the Magnet School,” she said.

We surveyed the fourth graders at TMSE. We asked them what their favorite food was in the cafeteria. We found it interesting that both pizza and burgers were the most popular choices. They had 14 votes each. Only three kids bring their lunch according to the survey answers. The following foods also got two or more votes: watermelon, tacos, steak, barbecue, crispetos, hotdog/corndogs, potato smiles, chicken. Six other options were mentioned by students and are included in the “other” category. We also asked if we should offer more fruit in the cafeteria. 30 students said our cafeteria should offer more fruit. Five said less fruit should be offered and 21 said the amount of food the cafeteria serves now is fine.

Opinion and Reviews

By Charlie Clark

If you ask me if we should have homework I’ll say no. Because when I get home I have no time to play, I can’t do homework before dinner and after dinner I’m way to tired to do homework to. Anyway I would rather have school start at 7:00 and end at 3:00 so the extra time will be used to do what is now called homework. So I can go home play outside then have dinner and go to bed.

The book series I am reviewing is Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The author of this series is Jeff Kinney. The first book is called Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I like this book because it was very hilarious and it is a very unique book. The second one is Rodrick Rules. This book is one of my

favorite books of all time. The third book is Last Straw. This is my number one book. The fourth book is Dog Days. This book is fun to read and is very exciting. The newest book is The Ugly Truth. I have not read this book yet but based on how the others are I think you should read it. Most of the books

take place in Greg’s school. There are several characters in this book. Their names are Greg, Manny, Rodrick, Holly, Rowley. My favorite character is Greg. I think that Greg is smart, funny, and weird. This book series is my favorite and that is why I recommend it to you!

The movie Marmaduke is about a dog and a family. In the movie, Marmaduke talks and in the movie Marmaduke has a dog world that he goes to every night. The other dogs in the movie also talks too, Marmaduke is one of the funniest characters in the movie. One of the dogs in the movie doesn’t get along with Marmaduke. Marmaduke is a light colored dog, he is also a tall dog too. In the movie, Marmaduke is the messiest and most unorganized dog you will ever see when you get finished watching this movie.

Marmaduke loves to wear sunglasses everyday when he goes outside to play. Marmaduke is a funny movie. If you ever go see it, I hope you like it.

An alternative to homework leaves time for more play

Review: New Diary of a Wimpy Kid published

Review: Marmaduke on DVD is family-friendly fun

The latest book, The Ugly Truth, was re-leased in November.

This year 4th grade has been on many field trips such as the Coosa River Science School, Bama Theater, and many more. Renee Moreman says that it is great to go on so many field trips. She also says that at her old school she didn’t get to go on many field trips. Renee thinks that it is fun to have more hands on and interactive trips to places. Jada Betts says that the upcoming

field trips will be fun and great. In October the 4th graders went on a field trip to the Westervelt Warner Museum. When we got back to the school a lot of students were saying how great it was to see all that art work at the museum. Mrs. Gerkin is the one who is in charge for making decisions of where the fourth grade will go for the field trips. She is also in charge of collecting the money to go on field trips. In November we went on a trip

to the Coosa River Science School. The trip lasted for three days. We had so much fun and got to share cabins with our friends. There were two cabins. There was a boy cabin and a girl cabin. Both of the cabins had two floors. The first day we were there we talked about what we are going to be doing while we were on this trip and what we are supposed to do during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. After we had lunch we did our activities. My favorite activity was lake living.
