Energy Park. They were also taken on field visit to Biofuel unit, Biogas plant and 100 kW Solar PV Grid

Interactive System at GKVK, UAS, Bengaluru.

Officers gained awareness from inspiring lectures on rural development by Sri. Shanmugham, Ex-President,

Odenthurai Panchayat, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu and Sri. Rangaswamy Elango, Vice President, Kutumbakam

Grama Panchayat, Tamilnadu. In the first training programme held on 19th& 20th February 2015 Sri.

Shanmugham in his lecture explained about his individual achievements for the past two decades in his Gram

Panchayat. Emphasising on zero corruption, he could save lakhs of rupees which he has invested on wind

power which gave his Gram Panchayath additional income. He could ensure quality development of his village

with excellent roads, drains, housing and he has also promoted SHG entrepreneurship.

th thIn the second training programme held on 26 & 27 February 2015 Sri. Rangaswamy Elango, ex-president of

Kuthumbakkam GP in his session briefed about the programme and activities taken up by him for social

equality, and good infrastructure like roads/drainage/street lights/pucca houses; low cost building

technologies, low cost toilets & solar enterprise. Arrack brewing in his GP's jurisdiction was totally eliminated.

He also developed woman entrepreneurship & self sustaining micro enterprises. A Panchayat Academy was

also established.

NEW INITIATIVES

Remote Village Electrification

MGIRED has taken up remote village electrification

programme to electrify the villages in the last mile.

Our programme began with illuminating PISOSE

village households of Joida Taluk, Uttara Kannada

District, which is located in dense Anshi-Dandeli

Tiger Reserve in Western Ghats. Four LED

luminaries per house of 5W, 6W & 9W have been

provided with a solar panel, charge controller and a

battery. Power to cater to the need of a community TV

has also been provided through a separate solar

panel. Villagers who have not seen lights in their

village till then were extremely happy having this basic amenity. Fifty percent of the project cost for this

execution was collectively contributed by Sri Punati Sridhar, IFS, APCCF & ED, MGIRED; Dr. Shobha Anand

Reddy, SF and Sri. Ram Singh Verma, SF and the balance 50% was funded by MGIRED.

MGIRED would like to further take up RVEP of villages/hamlets located in interior forest/wildlife areas. Power

solutions are mainly by harnessing solar/wind/pico-hydro resources or combining technologies to provide

hybrid solution. MGIRED is thankful in this regard to the KFD for their cooperation in all our activities.

Individuals/Organizations interested to fund/contribute for these projects may contact us. Intimation of any

fund transfers for this noble cause can be made by sharing transaction details to [email protected],

[email protected]. Income Tax exemption can be availed for such assistance under Section 80G of IT Act.

Energy clubs – for schools and colleges

Objective of forming Energy Clubs at schools and college is to create awareness on Energy/Water

Conservation and inculcate best practices among students. MGIRED Faculty delivered lectures on RE and EC

followed by Quiz, Drawing, Essay Writing, Pick and Speak competitions. Thereby, awareness was created

among the future citizens in judiciously using resources and motivated to take technology to the masses.

Energy Clubs were formed in following schools:

Nature Camp to Shivanalli and Bannerghatta Zoological Gardenth

December 10 2014

MGIRED organized this camp on 10.12.2014 at Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Shivanalli to Students of

Parikrama Humanity Foundation. The students were shown the semi evergreen like forests developed by the

Ashram and were explained about various tree species, their importance and uses. An artificially created water

hole inside the campus served to be a major attraction for wild animals and birds. Students were also taken to

Bannerghatta Zoological Garden to educate on ex-situ conservation of wild animals. They were briefed about

food habits, habitats and features of individual animal by zoo instructors.

Walk through Energy Assessment at KSDL

Objective is to create awareness among employees of

KSDL in energy usage and sensitize them in efficient

energy management. MGIRED and TIDE jointly

executed the walk through energy assessment of

KSDL, Bengaluru, a medium scale manufacturing

industry under GoK during the month of January, 2015.

Gist of activities: discussions with the top management

of KSDL; comprehensive walk-through energy

assessment wherein the group interacted with various

department employees to understand their energy

usage patterns. Based on data gathered, a

comprehensive report was compiled and suggestions were proposed for reduction of electricity

consumption.
