Mahatma Jothirao Phule Centre for Studies in Social Philosophy and Social Action (MJPC)
was inaugurated in the University on 18th November 2014. Justice M N Rao, Former Chief Justice
of Himachal Pradesh High Court and Former Chairperson, National Commission of Backward
Classes has delivered inaugural speech. . The Centre owes a debt of gratitude to the former Vice-
Chancellor Prof. K.Viyyanna.Rao, for creating the Centre and sanctioning liberally a initial Budget
of Rs.10 lakhs .
The birth of Mahtma Jothirao Phule Study Centre (MJPC), in ANU has been the outcome of
a strong desire backed by relentless efforts waged by the intellectuals, Dalit and Social activists,
students and the public at large. In fact, the geographical area surrounding the University,
consisting of Guntur, Prakasam and Krishna districts got a proven history of waging struggles
against caste system, untouchability and social oppression and exploitation. Several prominent
writers, social activists, thinkers of this area have contributed for and enriched the anti caste
alternative culture. Mahatma Jothirao Phule ( 1827- 1890) is known to the world as the founder,
Philosopher and path setter for all the anti caste movements in modern India.
Aim of the Centre:
MJPC aims at promoting the studies and research on Mahatma Jothirao Phule
and Strives for advancing and propagating the ideology of phule.
the Centre also encourages critical inquiry into the works, philosophy and
ideology of phule through seminars, research etc.,
The Centre organizes seminars and discussions on Phuley’s life and mission
for the benefit of the people including students, scholars, teachers and staff.
The Centre Organises Round Table meetings / workshops on socio-
economic issues plaguing the society and preparing the note on such issues;
The Centre also invites scripts frorm prominent persons on Phuley literature
and publish them;
The Centre got its own library with good collection of books related to the field with a
reading room facility. The students, scholars and teachers are invited to make use of the literature
on all the working days.
