We first express our deep gratitude to the almighty Allah who gave us the
opportunity to finish this task. In preparing this report a considerable amount of thinking
and informational inputs from various sources were involved. We express our sincere
gratitude to everyone who contributed towards making this report possible. Major
contributions were received from officials at United Hospital limited and East West
University, Dhaka.
First of all we would like to thank the authorities of United Hospital limited to
help us with valuable information about their technology and service. The experience and
knowledge gained at United Hospital limited helped us immensely to address and
understand all the elements related to our report, which we otherwise would not have
understood so well.
We would like to specially thank our instructor at East West University, Mr.
Mahmud Zubayer (Senior Lecturer) Department of business administration for his
absolute support, co-operation and encouragement that he extended to us from the very
first day of this course. In spite of having a very busy schedule, he made sure in every
way that we acquire the best possible exposure and knowledge during our course and
classes. Our sincere gratitude goes to our instructor for allowing us to work on such a
complex matter and encouraging us at the very first place, to undertake such a project to
fulfill our course requirements. He gave all the time and attention, which we needed to
complete our research and compile our report in as much orderly way as possible.
Last but not the least we would like to thank the respondents of our work, for
sparing the time out of their busy schedule to fill out our questionnaires. This task would
not have been possible without their valuable inputs.

MIS 101 Term Paper#The term Health Informatics came into use in the early 1970s but many other
terms have been used in the intervening years, such as Medical Informatics, Nursing
Informatics, Clinical Informatics and Bioinformatics but these are particular aspects of
Health Informatics. Some Experts said like such as:
Jack D. Myers, 1986 - "...a developing body of knowledge and set of techniques
concerning the organization and management of information in support of medical
research, education, patient care Myers, J.D. "Medical education in the information
age." Proceedings of the Symposium on Medical Informatics, 1986, p. 3.
Morris F. Collen, 1977 - "Medical informatics is the application of computer technology
to all fields of medicine - medical care, medical teaching, and medical research."
Preliminary announcement for the Third World Conference on Medical Informatics,
MEDINFO 80, 1977.
M.S. Blois and Edward H. Shortliffe, 1990 - "Medical informatics is the rapidly
developing scientific field that deals with the storage, retrieval, and optimal use ofbiomedical information, data, and knowledge for problem solving and decision making."
Blois, M.S., and E.H. Shortliffe. "The computer meets medicine: Emergence of a
discipline" in Medical Informatics: Computer Applications in Health Care, 1990, p. 20.
It might seem as though Health Informatics is just a clever idea that has appeared over night but it
has been around ever since we first started to pass information to one another to assist us in the
care of our clients. People tend to think of Health Informatics as just the "computer technology"
that helps healthcare professionals communicate with one another. Health professionals have been
using technology to communicate with one another for many years (the printing press and
telephones were once thought of as frightening new technologies), Health Informatics is about
Instructor: Mr.Mahmud Zubayer
6
8/6/2019 Main Term Paper
7/44
MIS 101 Term Paper#how we communicate regardless of whether we use a "new" or an "old" technology. Health
Informatics is about more than just the systems used to communicate or even the process of
communication; amongst other things it includes the study of the social and psychological effects
of communication on both clients and professionals. Even the latest "new technology" in Health
Informatics, has been in the process of development for over 30 years. Health Informatics, as we
recognize it today, is about the management of information in the healthcare services and its
history is closely connected with the history of the Internet and Computing. Hovenga et al
produced a very interesting Overview of Health Informatics in 1996.Health Informatics: An
Overview. 1996, Edited by: E.Hovenga, M.Kidd, B.Cesnik; Churchill Livingstone, Australia.

In order to complete our assignment with-in a short time, we depended on the
secondary data more than primary data.
Secondary Sources:
Secondary sources involve indirect way of researching. Such as-
o Web site observation
o Newspapers
. We downloaded many WebPages, PDF files, newspapers& related other things
which were very much helpful for us to complete this assignment.

There were some limitations of the study. We got a very little help to prepare the term
paper which was based on an elaborate topics. There was couple of other problems that
occurred when we preparing the term paper Computer Technology in Medical Science
are highlighted on following:
We surveyed around 40 people.
We went to the managers/owners but they did not give us the opportunity for our
survey. Because they couldnt manage their valuable time.
Amount of data collection is not very huge because some websites were blocked
by our university.
For having other courses and exams at the same time, we did not get enough time
to complete the final report.
Data collection process was irregular.
Data collection process was sometimes too slow because of the net speed in ouruniversity lab.

It is also an internal analysis in which the area or actions where United hospital is

IBM Web Sphere Studio Application Monitor for Multiplatform, V3.1 Helps to
Analyze Application Performance and Assess Requirements for Future Growth
Overview:
The Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) platform is increasingly adopted by organizations
to support e-business applications. This adoption is frequently accompanied by a set of
challenges related to monitoring and ensuring application health. While J2EE provides a
rich environment for defining business logic, complex interactions between distributed,
muttered, object-oriented applications pose a difficult management problem. Web
Sphere Studio Application Monitor (WSAM) for Multiplatform enables customers to
perform in-depth problem determination and performance analysis of mission-critical
enterprise J2EE applications. The technology allows enterprises to open up the Java
black box to see what is specifically happening within the applications, as well as trackand analyze their performance and resource consumption patterns over time. WSAM is a
tool used by J2EE administrators, application support analysts, and subject matter experts
during the pre-deployment planning phase and during production.
To help the IT staff analyze historical trends and plan for future application growth.
WSAM for Multiplatform consists of two components:
- A central Managing Server that acts as the brain of WSAM.
- Gathers information sent by Data Collectors, processes it, and displays it on a Webbrowser and Manages software levels
- Monitors individual or groups of applications- Generates operational performance alerts
- Stores all performance and availability metrics in a database

We designed our recommendations aiming to close the gaps between customers'
expectations and perceptions regarding health service. Our recommendations are:

The Customer Relations Officers of the Information center should be well
trained to improve their behavior and quality of service.
Different programs should be taken to educate the Consumers regarding
different essential features of medical equipment.
United Hospital Limited should take extensive program to build a positive
image among their users. In this process, they should try to eliminate themisconceptions of the users regarding United Hospital Limited.
United Hospital should aware about their service packages like Obesity treatment,
Hormon test, and thyroid care.
