aintenanCE Suite™ is a comprehensive troubleshooting tooldesigned for use in the maintenance of Allen-Bradley

hardware. Developed for Microsoft® Windows® CE,MaintenanCE Suite includes tools to assist in the commission-ing, maintenance and troubleshooting of Allen-Bradleyprogrammable controllers, Allen-Bradley PanelView™

Standard operator terminals and Allen-BradleySCANport™ devices and adapters. MaintenanCE Suitealso provides a tool for viewing and marking up CADdrawings and the Rockwell Software Mainte-nance Terminal Explorer (RSMATE™)application manager. MaintenanCESuite is delivered on a portable, flexible handheld PC (HPC), theHewlett-Packard Jornada.

The MaintenanCE Suite HPCThe Jornada HPC includes all thestandard commercial Microsoft Windows CE programs, such as Microsoft Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, Pocket Outlook,Pocket Internet Explorer, and others, as well as a variety of Hewlett-Packard productivity applications. These commercial applications arestored in the HPC system ROM. On the MaintenanCE Suite HPC,system ROM has been customized to store some components of theMaintenanCE Suite in addition to the standard commercial applications. All applications stored in system ROM are persistent on the HPC, evenin the event of lost battery power. This makes for easy recovery, sinceapplications stored in system ROM never need to be re-installed.

A Maintenance Engineer’s ToolMaintenanCE Suite applications are designed to complement existingRockwell Automation desktop PC software applications. The functionsa maintenance engineer would most frequently use are included inMaintenanCE Suite applications, resulting in simple, task-oriented tools.Easy-to-use applications together with the portability of the HPC makesMaintenanCE Suite an ideal addition to the maintenance engineer’stoolbox.

Because the differentapplications in the MaintenanCE Suitecommunicate via standard Allen-Bradley communicationprotocols (serial DF1, DH485, DH+™), they share built-in communicationmodules. This provides a common interface for setting up communicationdrivers and streamlines the amount of system resources used forcommunication.

*RSWire and AutoCAD .DXF and .DWG files are automatically converted to .CAD format whencopied from a desktop PC to the HPC using the PocketPlans ActiveSync filter.

The MaintenanCE Suite Application ManagerIn addition to the desktop companion applications, MaintenanCE Suitealso includes an application and project file manager. This tool is calledRSMATE, the Rockwell Software Maintenance Terminal Explorer.RSMATE allows you to install, update and un-install MaintenanCE Suiteapplications and can backup and restore your application settings, makingsystem recovery after any loss of data as straightforward as possible.RSMATE also handles launching of all suite applications, allows you toperform file searches on the HPC and provides virtual project manage-ment. RSMATE provides two views, a Windows Explorer-type (ExplorerView) and a configurable quick launch (Quick Launch View).

Explorer View

Explorer View is the default view for RSMATE. Explorer View providesapplication-level access to MaintenanCE Suite tools in a Windows Explorer-type interface. From Explorer View you can install and un-installMaintenanCE Suite applications, backup and restore application settings, view application revision information, launch applications and open recentlyused application files. You can organize project files, view project fileinformation, perform file searches and view search results. You can alsochoose to automatically launch RSMATE when the HPC is reset.

Install MaintenanCE Suite applications with the install wizard.Because new maintenance applications will be added to MaintenanCESuite, RSMATE has an install wizard that handles the installation of newsuite applications. When a new application is added to the suite, aRockwell Install Script (.RIS) file is copied to the Rockwell-providedcompact flash memory card. The install wizard searches the compactflash memory card for new Rockwell Install Script files, and performsinstallation for each file found. If you want to remove one of the mainte-nance applications from the HPC, RSMATE also has an un-install wizardthat will remove it from the system.

Backup and restore application settings. Because part of eachMaintenanCE Suite application is stored in volatile system RAM, in theevent of lost battery power some applications and custom settings will belost. To prevent a complicated and lengthy restoration process, RSMATEhas a built-in utility for backing up system settings. This utility, when usedwith the RSMATE install wizard, makes the recovery of MaintenanCESuite applications and their settings quick and easy.

View application revision information. When you select a MaintenanCESuite application in the Rockwell Maintenance Tools list, applicationversion information is displayed on the right-hand side of the screen, including application name, version number and copyright information.Additional information such as file location, size and attributes is alsoavailable.

Launch applications and open recently used files. Easy access toapplications and recently used files is a significant advantage with RSMATE.Rapid launching of applications can translate to preventing product loss ordevice failure. When immediate edits are needed in a project, quicklyopening a specific file in its associated application is a necessity.

Organize project files. The Projects folder is used to manage projectfiles. You can add subfolders and links to application files to the Projectsfolder, making it easy to logically organize and access different types offiles for one project. For example, you might create a new subfoldercalled Line 1 and add links to a PanelView project, one or more ladder

logic files and a drive parameter file to the new folder. While these filesmay be stored in different locations on your HPC, you now have links toall of them in one place through RSMATE.

View project file information in Explorer View by selecting a project file inthe Projects folder. Information such as file location, file size, date createdand date modified is displayed for the selected file. You can also addapplication notes to your subfolders with extra information about a projector the files used for it.

Search for files on the HPC. RSMATE provides a system search utility,a tool previously not available on the HPC, that gives you file searchcapability on the HPC. Search for a file or files by file name, file location, file size, or file date. Search results are displayed for quick and easyaccessibility.

Automatically launch RSMATE. When the HPC is reset, by defaultRSMATE needs to be manually re-launched. A shortcut can be added to the Startup Programs folder on your HPC so that RSMATE isautomatically launched after the HPC is reset.

Quick Launch View

Quick Launch View supplies quick, pre-configured access tofiles or applications on your HPC. In Quick Launch View, you can define and configure buttons to launchMaintenanCE Suite applications. You can alsoconfigure the buttons to open specific files.Initially, no buttons are configured forQuick Launch View, you mustconfigure them.

Launch suite applications. Launch MaintenanCE Suite applications withQuick Launch View by configuring a button to launch an application andselecting the application to launch.

Open MaintenanCE Suite project files. Configure a button to open a fileand select the file. When the quick launch button is tapped for aMaintenanCE Suite project file, the appropriate MaintenanCE Suiteapplication is launched and the file is opened.

Open other types of files. Configure a button to open another type ofapplication file, such as an HTML page, Pocket Word document or PocketExcel spreadsheet. When the quick launch button is tapped, theappropriate application is launched and the file is opened.

Launch other applications. Launch non-suite applications on your HPCby configuring a button to open a file and selecting the application .EXE.When the quick launch button is tapped, the application will be launched.

PocketLogix™

PocketLogix, designed for maintenance of Allen-Bradley programmablecontrollers, is a companion application for RSLogix 500™. PocketLogixleverages the familiar RSLogix™ user interface and feature set, while oper-ating on a portable Windows CE-based HPC. Programmable controllerapplications created with any of the Rockwell Software 500-series pro-gramming packages can be maintained quickly and easily withPocketLogix. PocketLogix offers many of the same powerful diagnosticcapabilities and easy-to-use editing as RSLogix. You can monitor applica-tion execution, modify data table value, force input and output states andperform both online and offline editing on controller applications.

PocketLogix has features that optimize viewing of ladder projects on thesmall HPC screen. Its tab interface allows easy access to the most-usedtroubleshooting features: ladder viewer, data table monitor and search/cross-reference and compile results. You can zoom out for multiple rungcontact state viewing and zoom in for single rung details and editing. Afterchanges have been made to ladder files using PocketLogix, use MicrosoftActiveSync® to set up auto-synchronization of edits to archived files.

In addition, PocketLogix has features in common with RSLogix.PocketLogix allows for full upload/download capabilities, and you canmake time-critical changes online while the application is running. Rungsor instructions can be quickly added using the ASCII editor or with agraphical editor by using the Insert/Append menu items.

PocketPFT™

PocketPFT (PanelView File Transfer) is a file transfer utility forPanelView™ Standard operator terminals, based on the WinPFT utilityfrom Allen-Bradley PanelBuilder32™ software. You can use PocketPFT tomove files built with PanelBuilder32 between any PanelView Standardterminal and the MaintenanCE Suite HPC. Changeover PanelViewconfigurations or download troubleshooting routines for equipment, readand write memory cards, and check, compare and replace applicationprograms in a PanelView Standard terminal with PocketPFT.

As with WinPFT, PanelBuilder32 projects must be saved in .PVA fileformat in order to be transferred to a PanelView terminal with PocketPFT.Depending upon the PanelView model, PocketPFT can communicate withoperator terminals via serial DF1, DH485 and DH+.

PocketPlansPocketPlans is a companion application for desktop CAD systems suchas AutoCAD® or RSWire™. It allows you to take an electronic version of aCAD drawing into the field for validating and making corrections. Onceback in the office you can update the drawing in the desktop CADpackage without losing any information in the process. PocketPlansprovides a convenient way to view electrical schematics, panel layouts, machine drawings and building plans on your HPC.

With PocketPlans you can edit only the redline layer of the drawing.Other layers can be displayed, but the redline layer is the only one youcan make changes on. Once you have marked up a drawing withPocketPlans, you can take the redline layer and incorporate it with thedrawing in the desktop CAD package.

PocketPlans has a number of features designed to optimize the CADdrawing display on the small HPC screen. Zoom in to view details in thedrawing, or zoom out to view the drawing in its entirety. Pan to viewdifferent areas of the drawing, and turn layers off and on as needed. You can also measure point-to-point distances or dimensions – selectthe measurement tool and “draw” a line with the stylus. Distance fromthe start to the end of the line is displayed.
