1936-C and 2936-CThe Best Just Got Even Better

See our website for more info.newport.com/power27WEB

The hugely successful 1935-C/2935-C series of powermeters has set new standards in optical power andenergy measurement. Now, Newport has combined thesuperb femtowatt-level sensitivity of the 1931-C/2931-Cseries and the extreme versatility of the 1935-C/2935-Cseries to create a revolutionary step forward in powermetering.

For any measurement application, no matter howdemanding, all you need is one of these new modelsplus a Newport detector. Both series are fullycompatible with the 918D Series semiconductor-basedlow power, 818P Series thermopile and 818E Seriespyroelectric detectors. When a different detector isneeded, hot-swapping capabilities means there’s noneed to recycle the power.

For low-power or high-power applications, or thoseinvolving measurement of energy from continuous orpulsed light sources, the new instruments have brokenthe barrier of temporal measurement performancewith calibrated results. They can handle repetitionrates of up to 10 kHz at an unheard sampling rate of250 kHz. This means that even reasonably high-speeddynamical phenomena can be seen, eliminating theneed for an oscilloscope in many cases.

Pulse, peak-to-peak and DC source measurements canbe displayed in units of W, dBm, dB, J, A, and V. Dual-channel 2936 Series meters allow for the simultaneousmeasurement variety of light sources operating atdifferent power levels and wavelengths.

reliability, insensitivity to magneticfields, l ight tolerance andminiaturization. In addition, thenew design offers a high signal-to-noise ratio and a very fast pulseresponse.

The detector, usually known as asi l icon photomultipl ier (SPM),consists of an array of Geiger-modeAPDs, each individually coupled tointegrated quench electronics.Geiger-mode APDs have extremelyhigh internal amplification thatallows single-photon sensitivity atroom temperature.

The SPM Series APDs are availablewith an active area of 1 x 1 mm2 or3 x 3 mm2, housed in a hermetically

sealed TO8 can and mounted on atwo-stage Peltier cooler. Duringnormal operation the detector iscooled to -20 °C, which reduces thedark count by an order ofmagnitude and offers a significantperformance improvement overroom-temperature operation.

Newport’s new high-resolutiontiming module (HRTM) is the firstportable USB high-resolutiontiming module on the market, offering high-end timing functionsin an easy-to-use, flexible module. Its novel timing circuitry enables atiming resolution of 66 ps and isavailable in one, two, or fourchannels. The system design isoptimized for use with Newport'sphoton-counting sensor products, but is also compatible with anyother photon-counting sensor.

The HRTM offers functionsincluding time-binning, t ime-tagging (micro and macro), multi-channel averager/scaler, multi-dimensional time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC) andauto/cross correlation. Along with arange of tools for display, statisticalanalysis and data export, thiscombination of functions in asingle platform makes the HRTMthe ultimate timing module.

A user-configurable memoryarchitecture enables the capture ofmultiple curves in one experiment.Using the flexible interface with 16I/O ports, these curves can beautomatically mapped to memoryin various configurations, allowingsingle-point or multi-dimensionalimaging. The versatile I/O structure

allows integration with existingexternal equipment such as steppermotors, microscopes and scanningarrays, al lowing the HRTM tocontrol (or be controlled by)external equipment.

Enables a resolution of 66 ps.
