MBA
I wake up early.I capture a thousand ideas, shake and share them, focus and turn good ones into opportunities.I move forward to make it happen, try, fail, do it again, make it work and improve it with the help of others.
I am morethan an entrepreneur.I am a maker.
2
Entrepreneurs are makers, we makeentrepreneurs
The digital revolution impacts on all sectors of activity. Professions are changing at unprecedented speeds. It is estimated that 60% of the professions exercised in 2030 do not yet exist. emlyon business school’s mission is to teach you - as managers, executives, directors and entrepreneurs - to live in today’s unstable, unpredictable, constantly changing world and to seize upon as many opportunities as possible.
What are the skills you need to acquire in this context, to evolve swiftly and successfully in tomorrow’s world?
The first skill is definitely your ability to anticipate and adapt to changes in your environment. This expertise falls within the field of emotional intelligence and involves taking account of issues relating to culture, human relations and collaborative work.
A second crucial skill in this digital era is knowing how to adapt to the multiplicity of information out there. Not only learn to manage the information overload and sheer multitude of media and applications, but also learn to be a visible participant in this bustling mass of information.
Another key strength in this new and highly virtual world is the ability to make things a reality. For this, teaching and action need to go hand in hand. The entrepreneur of tomorrow will be a maker; you will need to be a maker. You will need to be one of those who try, experiment, fail, start again and learn as they go along. One of those who manage to do things and do them quickly. Those who know how to anticipate, brainstorm, cultivate ideas, see before others and accomplish faster than others.
Through teaching, you should be made aware of the importance of developing social and collective intelligence in a network. The possibilities for bringing together knowledge, expertise, ideas and resources are infinite… as long as you know how to work with crowdsourcing, crowdfunding and crowdinnovation.
Within this new environment, the finest entrepreneurial adventures will stem from your ability to build a project in a global and digital world, using a collective approach that goes beyond the confines of a company, uniting talented people from different walks of life.

welcome to the emlyon business school MBA where makers are made
Our transformative goal is about helping you live in a complex, uncertain world, and be capable of leading successful,
principled change, anchored in solid values. A world class MBA needs to take into account these challenges and be
able to manage the transformations that these challenges require.

Being exposed to both virtual and real-life cases ofbusiness creation is an invaluable learning experience. As many of our MBA candidates are current or future entrepreneurs, we decided to go a step further and co-create a start up experience with our incubator(950 companies created, 85% survival rate after 5 years, more than 11,000 jobs created). For our young professionals, we provide a “newventure course” during which they create virtual companies and the best team joins business plan .and business case competitions in North America and Europe.
innovateIn an ever-changing environment, asking the right questions, and not taking everythingfor granted, is key.Our MBA participants start with a Design Thinking seminar + MOOC that enables themto solve complex issues by asking the right questions and experiencing a transdisciplinary creative approach, including arts, sociology & philosophy. Become more than just a problem solver, become a sense maker!
create
“There is no learning without action and no action without learning” that is why all MBA participants join an Entrepreneurial Leadership Project (full time and fast track MBA) or a strategic initiative project (Executive MBA). The objective is to tackle complex issues and apply MBA knowledge either as a part time consultant in an external company or in their own company. Action learning has been the backbone of our MBA for more than 10 years.
act
Contribute to a better world through a responsible, sustainable approach. Putting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the heart of all our actions is a given; it encompasses the way we interact with others (responsible leadership), the way we manage our organizations and deal with the environment (the whole ecosystem). That is why many courses and business games take into account dierent aspects (economic and social performance, integrative seminar with a real life case). We also provide a CSR platform and make use of learning trips especially in Finland to experience and applythe approach.
contribute
Self awareness and collective intelligence are the two pillars for successful leadership. Through our leadership and personal development track for the Executive MBA and our organizational behaviour and HR courses for both formats, MBA participants will take time for introspective examination and development of their managerial competencies. Career workshops and coaching will help them enhance their career and all debriefings will create a collective intelligencemindset.

your MBA, why? because you want to go to the next levelBy Fabienne Autier, HR professor and researcher at emlyon business school
Motivation evolves through age.A professional life is structured around 3 main periods each inaugurated by a specific «rendez-vous».The first «rendez-vous» is our first full-time job (1).The second «rendez-vous» is our first motivational crisis (2).The third «rendez-vous» is our second major motivational crisis, commonly refered to as the mid life crisis (3).In between those RDV, 3 dominant levers drive our motivation.
Obligations-Learning professional
behaviors and technical skills
through action, repetition and
mimetism (we are driven by
peer recognition and sense of
belonging).
Aspirations-What was once the source of
our motivation is now source of
de-motivation (we are driven by
a need for self-knowledge and an
urge of making a useful
contribution to the world).
Initiatives-Learning of initiative taking,
whether hierarchical, functional,
project, aside (we are driven by
professional progression, peer
and hierarchical recognition,
compensation).

“Undoubtably, the most exciting experience during my MBA was ELP (Entrepreneurial Leadership Project). Dealing with a real company, solving an urgent business issue, applying theoretical skills to business practice, sharing my own work experience and learning from the team members – my ELP was extremely rich in all respects. Moreover, the findings of this project are fully applicable to my present job.”-Margarita Bolganova // Russian graduate

After the seminar 100% of the 2015-2016 participants would recommend this transdisciplinary method to generate relevant and efficient innovation. They said:
“I plan to phase the project we have with my executive committee of rethinking our business model following main design thinking steps: broad gathering of information, definition of a position which shows our shared values and identifying and validating our key work hypothesis before entering the problem solving phase. It may help us building a real good strategy.”
“Very interesting, seems a bit strange at first sight but you will have a complete different overview after the course.”
“I found this course very interesting and I discovered that there was a method to generate creativity for companies, to create innovation for products, for organization and for markets! I will try to use this method to create competitive advantage for my company.”
at the heart of the executive MBA, let’s focus on 5 examples of innovative experience
In a complex and changing environment, the ability to ask the
right questions is becoming a competitive advantage, that
is why our MBA participants start the program with a design
thinking seminar that represents a face-to-face course + MOOC
& team presentations.
This seminar enables our participants to solve complex issues by:
• Asking the right questions
• Experiencing a transdisciplinary creative approach, based on
sociology, science, philosophy and arts
• Developing sense making versus problem solving approach
Our credo: sense making, working with others, be a maker,
creating (new businesses, new ideas, new processes).
1Design thinking innovative approach
22
As many of our MBA candidates are current or future entrepreneurs, we decided to co-construct a start up experience with our incubator (Ranked the No. 1 incubator in france, 950 companies created, 85% survival rate after 5 years, more than 11,000 jobs created). Our participants will have an entrepreneur toolkit (value creation, business modeling and business planning, among others).
Executive MBA participants are exposed to entrepreneurship in diverse situations- The emlyon business school incubator will enable participants
to share experience and feedback with stakeholders involved,
including business angels, incubator teams and founders who
will help them understand how the incubator works, apprehend
the model and consider applying it to their own project (current
or future project).
Dedicated courses as “entrepreneurial dynamics” or “corporate entrepreneurship”
- During the course “entrepreneurial dynamics”, participants
will be exposed to the concepts of value creation, business
modeling and business planning, among others. Emphasis
will be placed on learning through shared experiences with
current start-ups from emlyon business school incubator and
experienced entrepreneurs and experts. You will continue to
broaden your international perspectives and emphasis on
entrepreneurship if you choose the elective “Entrepreneurial
European Journeys”.
World Entrepreneurship Forum - The World Entrepreneurship Forum is the world’s leading
think tank devoted to entrepreneurs as key creators of wealth
and social justice. An emlyon business school initiative, it is
a community of 250 members from 70 countries who meet
every year to find entrepreneurial solutions to the world’s most
pressing issues.
2 Strong focus on entrepreneurship
23
3 Learning trips: experience other economic systems
visit foreign and local companies in Shanghai, attend workshops and lectures, interact with local board members and CEOs and reflect on what you have learned. Continue to broaden your international perspectives with your colleagues if you choose to join the entrepreneurial journeys in Europe. You will put into practice your investigative skills. Thinking globally is an inherent part of our EMBA, together with the learning trip to Shanghai as part of the core course “International Strategy”.
The individual strategic project is also a major part of the EMBA. Each participant works directly with an executive project sponsor. The project is divided into multiple phases based on the creative problem solving process. This allows each participant to apply what he or she has learned in the classroom. A faculty member serves as a tutor and provides feedback about appropriate methodologies and models. finally, each participant has to produce a Master’s thesis to be presented in front of a jury.
This project is an outstanding opportunity to make your environment aware of your new skills- Some possible project themes:
• Business plan for setting up/buying a business
• Global strategy focusing on a specific country
• Strategies for diversification
• External growth project
• Change management
“If I had to sum up the emlyon business school EMBA in three words, they would be: innovation, entrepreneurship and self-awareness. This EMBA allowed me to succeed both personally and professionally.”-Otmane Bensaid // graduate in 2011 // Supply Chain Director at Lafarge Maroc

Deepen and customizewith electives
Joining an MBA program means transforming yourself, developing your managerial impact and managing complexity and diversity.Based on positive psychology, team building models and collective intelligence, the leadership and personal development track will start at the very beginning of the program - a good way to “let things go and be yourself” - and will support you throughout your journey. It will help you assess your strengths, lead your team to high collective performance and promote a sustainable leadership posture.
The track is organized into three modules, excellence and self
development, high performing teams and responsible leadership.
These modules are complemented by semi-collective coaching
workshops. This unique resource accompanies you through
the key stages of your personal development track and can be
complemented by electives such as “optimize your personal
impact, based on MBTI” “Think out of the box”, “Improve your
communication skills”…
All these sessions provide an opportunity for valuable face-to-
face communication in small groups, managed by leadership
professors and experienced executive coaches.
5 Leadership and personal development track

I did not imagine I would benefit from such a personal development provided by the team work and sharing of life experiences with the other members of the course.”-Yannick Parent // graduate in 2010 // Plant Manager at Hexcel Corp in Cambridge
“I asked myself many questions, including about the interest for me, who work since six years in a company, to gain experience elsewhere. But the coaching realised by a high-quality professional allowed me to take a step back, to put my project into perspective and to reinforce my wish to make this company grow while consolidating its independence.”-Ségolène Moyrand // graduate in 2013 // Group Communication Manager at Gattefosse

“fast track”
“I was lucky enough to complete a «Fast Track» Executive MBA. I say «lucky» because I think that a «professional sabbatical» in a career is a real luxury and I would recommend it to everyone who gets the chance.I found a position that matched my search criteria shortly after finishing the MBA. This MBA certainly played a major role in my recruitment and today I am experiencing the benefits of this year, mainly in terms of my business understanding and in my ability to challenge and make proposals for strategic decisions within the group.”-Claire Cavallucci // graduate in 2016 // Human Resources Director // Abeo Group

inventing the smarter business school with IBM
Accelerating digital transformation
Faced with the dual challenges of globalisation and an increasingly
digital world, emlyon business school is moving on from traditional
models of education. Its ambition is to offer truly customised,
digitally-based training 24/7, all around the globe.
To create this new, cloud-based, global learning environment,
emlyon business school signed a partnership agreement with
IBM in January 2015. Students, faculty, alumni and partners can
all now access content adapted to their own specific needs using
smartphones, tablets, PCs and collaborative technologies.
The transformation of emlyon business school will unfold over a
five year period from 2015 to 2019. It will be based on the ‘Learning
Management System’ or LMS, a collaborative platform open to
students, graduates, educators and the school’s business partners.
Customised content will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a
week from all mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, as
well as more conventional PCs. The whole system will run in an IBM
cloud environment providing both continuous global accessibility
and high levels of security.
By 2019-2020 emlyon business school will be able to offer its
entire community a learning environment where all participants will
not just learn but will be the initiators of learning. An environment
where Big Data and analytics will optimise the flow of information
and constantly add to all aspects of a student’s knowledge and
skill-set. An environment where digital will allow educators to
exchange the lecture room for small, interactive learning groups.
An environment of genuine added value.
“Being a Smarter Business School means getting data out of its silos and using it to provide students with customised content, both while they are at the school and throughout their working lives. This goal will become a reality thanks to our partnership with IBM.”
DANIEL EvANS // Chief Innovation Officer, emlyon business school

Studying on an emlyon business school campus is a life
experience filled with innovation. emlyon business school campuses have been totally redesigned and are places
of learning which offer state-of-the-art technological
resources. They are also fun, social places to live, work,
connect, eat, enjoy and relax.
Innovative rooms to reinvent future teaching- All emlyon business school campuses have a number of
innovative tools for learning, exchanging and creating:
Creativity & Learning Hub, Learning Lab, interactive
whiteboards, whiteboard walls, Apple TV/tablet, creativity
boards and more… A reflection of innovative teaching,
these facilities augur the teaching of tomorrow where
school is not only a place for learning, but also a place
where we learn to learn, to deconstruct and reconstruct
knowledge.
Development of FabLabs based on the I.D.E.A program
model. The FabLab lets us visibly perceive an innovation
in the form of a tangible or intangible model. In short, it
is a place to discuss projects and make them a reality, to
make “just about everything”. The FabLab is a forum for
learning and training, a platform for social, digital and
economic innovation, a community of resources, skills and
training.
Online living and leisure areas to work everywhere,
differently…
Bright, spacious work areas and specialised food
establishments are available so that each person can eat
how they want, whether standing, seated, alone or in a
group and also work if they want from log-in points. They
can also relax in the quieter areas or even play in furnished
video game zones.
Creativity & Learning Hubs- A clear example of the school’s changing learning methods
in terms of the impact of digital but also changes in use.
• Individual or collaborative work spots (walk-in or
bookable), discussion rooms.
• Restaurant facilities and gaming room / Inspired by the
new workspaces of Silicon Valley startups.
• Brain Bubbles / Transparent bubbles used as meeting
rooms.
• Connected and innovative furniture• Content curation / This technology is used to select, edit
and share the most relevant content for a given subject
to aid theoretical learning.
• Datawiz Wall / This wall shows Learning Hub users
a real-time animated display of e-book reading
and consultation in libraries throughout the world
(Scholarvox database). An intuitive control console
enables visitors to search for a book and project its
content directly onto the wall. The integration of its
theme-based context suggests new titles to consult.
