MakeaMap 1) Login and visit any topic page. Click the MAKEAMAP button. 2) With MakeaMap concept mapping tool, students and teachers can create maps to take notes, organize ideas, study vocabulary, tell digital stories, and more. On the MakeaMap page, the topic movie is on the left and the canvas is in the center. Students or teachers logged in with their My BrainPOP accounts can save their concept maps, add movies to their maps, or edit them using the NEW, OPEN or ADD MOVIE buttons located on the top left of the screen. 3) As the movie plays in MakeaMap a camera icon will appear in the corner. When you reach an important moment, click the camera to take a snapshot of the movie and add it to the canvas. The snapshots will appear in the upper left hand corner of the canvas. Simply click and drag to move them. 4) You can type underneath each snapshot. We suggest ideas, thoughts, keyword descriptions, or anything to organize the map. Clicking the > button will replay the moment from the movie. To provide context, the movie clip begins a few seconds before the specific captured moment.

Students or teachers logged in with their My BrainPOP accounts can save their concept maps, add movies to their maps, or edit them using the NEW, OPEN or ADD MOVIE buttons located on the top left of the screen.

5)You can select each snapshot “node” and apply different colors. Color coding is terrific for organizing, categorization, and notetaking! The TRASH button will delete the selected “node.”
6) Click a KEYWORD and add it to the canvas. Clicking the play button will replay a clip from the movie in which the keyword is defined. Just like the movie snapshots, the keyword is defined in context.
7) Click ADD MOVIE. See RELATED MOVIE to watch in the MakeaMap player or SEARCH the entire BrainPOP topic movie library, Once you choose a new topic, all of the associated resources for that selection will be loaded into the tool for you to begin adding to your concept map.
8) Some topic movies have associated images. Click IMAGES to see them all. Click an image and it will be automatically placed in the upper lefthand corner of your map canvas. Or drag and drop the nodes directly into the canvas to place them wherever you’d like.
9) Add a blank shape node to your canvas by clicking a shape icon. Then, add text.
10) Link “nodes” by clicking and dragging the arrow into the center of the “node” you would like to connect. Initially the arrow will be red. When you select the arrow it becomes green. Once you pull it to another node and release it, the arrow will turn black. Click in the middle of the line to add a linking phrase to the connector line. And, if you need to MOVE a connecting line you can always grab the squares on either end of the connector line and drag it to another node.
11) Change the appearance of the connecting line by first selecting the line on the canvas and then selecting a style in the CONNECTING LINE dropdown. These lines can help to indicate directionality of the relationship between two ideas/concepts.
12) Use keyboard command: shift + left click to select and apply changes to multiple nodes. You can change multiple node colors at once. Delete multiple nodes. Or, move multiple nodes around the map canvas. The nodes that you have selected to change will have a red box around them.
13) Change the scale of your canvas using the SLIDER tool and SCROLL BARS surrounding the map canvas. Click the Expansion Icon to hide the resource material and maximize the mappable canvas area. This is a great mode for studying.
14) Write NOTES for your concept map. Click on the Notebook Icon. All notes written here are saved and attached to the map and viewable in the Teacher and Student Timeline View.
15) When you finish your concept map, SUBMIT it to a teacher for feedback!
Some features will not be accessible if you are not logged in with your My BrainPOP account. Only when you are logged in with a My BrainPOP account will you be able to save, edit and add to your concept maps. Nonlogged in users can still print maps.
