Jesus: Light of the World Isaiah 60:1-7 The Story (Late 8 th – Early 7 th Century B.C.): 1 Arise, shine, for your light has come… Isaiah 60:1 Three significant implications for Israel: 1) Israel’s light will come during great darkness . 1 Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. 2 For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the LORD will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. 3 And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. 2) Israel’s light will attract the hearts of all people. 4 … they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be carried on the hip. 5 … the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you. 6b They shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall bring good news, the praises of the LORD . 3) Israel’s light will result in a thriving temple . 7 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered to you; the rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you; they shall come up with acceptance on my altar, and I will beautify my beautiful house. John 2:19-21

The Rest of the Rest of the Story (2018 A.D.): “You are the light of the world…” Matthew 5:14a 

Three significant meanings for us: 1) The light of Christ continues to shine in the darkness.

o Notice the seismic kingdom shift that has taken place.o You (we) are the continuing story of Isaiah 60:1-7!o How will you let your light shine in this season of lights?

2) The light of Christ continues to attract the hearts of all people.o We share in this by going and by sowing.o Be renewed by seeing how the Gospel is changing the

world at gospelherald.com and/or godreports.com.3) The light of Christ continues to shine through the temple

of his people.o Pray, “God, use me (us) in my (our) corner of the world!”o There is no “Plan B.” You (we) are part of God’s A-Team!
