Making an Accordion Book

Assignment:

Imagine you are a tourist who has just traveled to modern China. You will now write a travel journal describing what you learned about Chinese families during your trip.

Your journal must include the following parts:

Page 1

An introduction that gives a general description of the places you visited.

Pages 2-5

Vivid and accurate descriptions of four practices of modern Chinese families that you encountered. Be sure to include the following for each practice: The location where you learned about the practice A description of the events you witnessed and the

people involved The ways in which the practice reflects ancient

Chinese traditions Colored “photographs” from your travels that would

give the reader a clear and captivating visual of each practice

A conclusion that explains what the practices reveal to you about the importance of family in modern Chinese life.

Assembling Your BookTake two of each:

Long white paper

Cardboard

Choose Your CoverYou will need:

Two pieces of fancy paper

Yarn to match

1. Fold each piece of white long paper in half.2. Fold the outside edges back toward the first fold.

When you open the paper, it will look like an ‘M’.

3. Glue the two folded pieces of paper together to make an accordion.

4. Glue a fancy piece of paper to a piece of cardboard. This will be your cover.

5. To create the back cover, glue a piece of string between the cardboard and fancy paper.

6. Trim the corners off of the front and back covers.

7. Fold over the edges and

glue them down.

8. Attach the front cover to one end of your accordion, and the back cover to the other end.

9. Insert your “photographs” and descriptions of your trip.

10. Fold your book and tie

it closed… voila!
