Für die Entwicklung seines neuen Tischsystems WINEA PRO hat der Büromöbelhersteller WINI neue Wege beschritten: Noch vor der Erstellung des Pfl ichtenheftes befragte er Fachhandelspart-ner, Objektkunden und Architekten nach ihren Wünschen an ein optimales Büromöbel, sam-melte Anregungen und diskutierte kommende Anforderungen. Das Ergebnis: Gefordert wird ein ausgereiftes, durchdachtes und modulares System, das einfach veränderbar ist – gestaltet in einem klaren, zeitlosen Design, das sich im Objekt zurücknimmt. Ein Tischsystem, konstru-iert unter allen Aspekten der Nachhaltigkeit. Mit einfachen, bequemen Funktionen, einsetzbar in allen Unternehmensbereichen, in einem durch-gängigen Erscheinungsbild für alle Varianten – von Vierfuß starr bis zum Steh/Sitz-Arbeitsplatz.

Der direkte Kontakt zu Händlern und Endkunden führte hier zu schnellen Erkenntnissen. Doch was wollen die Architekten? Um dies herauszu-fi nden, wurden zwölf der führenden deutschen Architekten mit Arbeitsschwerpunkt Offi ce zu mehreren Workshops eingeladen, in denen die Bedürfnisse der Zielgruppe ermittelt, erste Ent-würfe der WINI-Konstrukteure diskutiert und Ideen gemeinsam weiterentwickelt wurden. Offi ce furniture manufacturers WINI broke new ground for the development of their new table system WINEA PRO. Even before defi ning the performance specifi cations, they interviewed partners in the specialist trade, customers and architects to fi nd out what they were looking for in an optimum offi ce furniture range. The result: What was required was a sophisticated,

well thought-out and modular system which was easily adaptable – in clear-cut, timeless design that fi ts unobtrusively into any offi ce environment. A table system built to be sus-tainable in every sense. With simple, conve-nient functions, suitable for all areas of a com-pany and with a consistent appearance for all variants – from the 4-leg fi xed-height model to the stand-sit workplace. Direct contact with dealers and end customers soon brought the desired insights here. But what do architects want? In order to fi nd out, twelve of Germa-ny's leading architects who focus on offi ce design were invited to a series of workshops to defi ne the requirements of the target group, discuss initial drafts from the WINI design en-gineers and work together on new ideas.

Das Tischsystem WINEA PRO und sein Vor läufer: WINEA FAME war 2008 bereits seit elf Jahren erfolgreich auf dem Markt, als neue gestalterische und funktionale Ansprüche der Arbeitswelt eine Neuentwicklung erforderlich mach-ten. Ein spannender Prozess begann.

The table system WINEA PRO and its predecessor: WINEA FAME had already enjoyed market success for eleven years. However, new require-ments with regard to design and func-tion in the working world made new developments inevitable.

Das Tischsystem WINEA FAME hat den Er-folg von WINI geprägt und Vertrauen am Markt durch hohe Qualität, Solidität und Nachhaltigkeit begründet. Wissend, dass WINEA FAME in die Jahre gekommen ist und auch dem eigenen Anspruch nicht mehr zu 100 Prozent genügen kann, analysier-te das WINI-Team Stärken und Schwächen des Tischsystems und ließ diese Ergebnis-se in das erste Produktkonzept eingehen. Zusätzlich führte WINI eine Befragung der Fachhandels partner, Endverbraucher, Con -sulter und Facility Manager durch, um die Neuentwicklung op ti mal an die Erfordernisse des Marktes an zu passen. In die Planung ging auch die neue Norm für Arbeitstische ein, die damals gerade erst vom europäischen Nor-menausschuss entwickelt worden war.

The success of WINI was based on consumer confi dence in the high quality standards, sta-bility and durability of the table system WINEA FAME. Nevertheless, in 2008, it became clear that the design of WINEA FAME was no lon-ger up-to-date and did not fully live up to the claims we make for our products. In an initial analysis, the WINI development team exam-ined the strengths and weaknesses of this table system and used these insights to defi ne a fi rst product concept. In addition, WINI conducted a survey among specialist dealers in order to ensure that the new product would be optimal-ly tailored to the needs of the market. The new design also took into consideration the require-ments of the latest industrial standard for work tables, which at the time had just been defi ned by the European standards commission.

Im Sommer 2008 entschied sich WINI, dass Bewertungsgrundlagen von Architekten un-bedingt in die Produktentwicklung einfl ießen sollten. Also trafen sich am 7.11.2008 zwölf von der Fachzeitschrift AIT ausgewählte Architekten zum ersten Secret P-Test im Berliner InfoCen-ter von WINI, hoch oben im 29. Stockwerk des Treptower Turms. In kleinen Arbeitsgruppen klärten die Tester gemeinsam im Austausch mit dem WINI-Designteam offene Fragen, diskutier-ten konstruktiv Details des neuen Tischsystems. Neben der redaktionellen Aufbereitung des Tests durch die AIT ergaben sich für WINI aus dem Feedback der Architekten wichtige Leitlinien und Bestätigungen. So sollte es darum gehen, alle Funktionen möglichst einfach und selbsterklä-rend auszuführen. Ferner regten die Architekten an, nicht zu viele Funktionen anzulegen und das Produkt mit der Zeit wachsen zu lassen.

Eine konzentrierte Arbeitsatmosphäre herrschte im Berliner WINI-InfoCenter. The working atmosphere in the Berlin WINI-InfoCenter was one of intense concentration.

WINI und die Fachzeitschrift AIT organi-sierten den ersten geheimen Produkttest. Über den Dächern von Berlin grübelten 12 Archi tekten über die Anforderungen an ein neues Tischsystem und stellten so erfolgreich die Weichen für die neue Bürolösung WINEA PRO.

In summer 2008, WINI decided that it was imperative for architects’ evaluation criteria to be integrated into the product develop-ment process. And so, on 7.11.2008, twelve architects selected by trade magazine AIT met in the WINI InfoCenter in Berlin, high up on the 29th fl oor of the Treptower Turm, for the fi rst secret P-Test. In small groups, the testers clarifi ed unresolved questions, exchanging ideas with the WINI design team, and engaged in constructive discussion of the details of the new table system. In addition to the editorial processing of the test by AIT, WINI profi ted from the architects’ feedback, which prompted the formulation of important guidelines and provided confi rmation. The architects also advised designing the system with a limited number of functions to allow the product to grow over time.

Mit dem ehrgeizigen Ziel, die Produkt-entwicklung des neuen Tischsystems WINEA PRO voranzutreiben, veranstal-tete WINI einen Workshop in Kapstadt. Für drei Tage zog sich die Gruppe aus Architekten und WINI-Mitarbeitern zum konzentrierten Arbeiten zurück.

Ein tatkräftiges, engagiertes Team hatte sich zum Workshop in Kapstadt zusammengefunden. A dynamic, committed team came together for the workshop in Capetown.

Ein neues Tischsystem in nur drei Arbeits-tagen zu bewerten? Unmöglich! Doch der WINI-Workshop in Kapstadt bewies, dass es machbar ist. Das bedingungslose Engagement der eingeladenen Architekten war die grundle-gende Begleitung für diesen Erfolg. Doch ohne

die Bereitschaft der WINI-Entwickler, ihre ei-gene Arbeit immer wieder zu hinterfragen und in großer Offenheit die Perspektive der mit-arbeitenden Architekten anzunehmen, hätte WINEA PRO nie so entstehen können. Die Workshop-Methodik war simpel: Jeweils drei Architekten und ein WINI-Mitarbeiter nah-men sich ein Problem vor. Proportionen, Funk-tionen, Höhenverstellung oder Gestell formen wurden mit höchster Konzentration be urteilt. Nach jeweils zwei Stunden wurden die Elemen-te gemeinsam diskutiert und Schnittstellen -probleme bearbeitet. Danach ging es wie der zurück in die Arbeitsgruppen.

Der Moderator trieb an, griff korrigierend ein, verhinderte Abwege und motivierte, wenn nötig. Am Ende des Workshops waren die gewünschten Produkt-Funktionen annähernd in gestalterische Formen gegossen – und die Skizzenbücher und -papiere mit unzäh-ligen Ideen gefüllt. Die Workshop-Tage blie-ben allen Beteiligten als eine Phase höchster Konzentration in Erinnerung – immer wieder unterbrochen von schönen Erlebnissen. Es war eine arbeitsreiche Zeit, geprägt von in-tensivem Gedankenaustausch und einmaligen architektonischen und auch zwischen mensch-lichen Erlebnissen.

With the ambitious aim of driving for-ward the development of the new table system WINEA PRO, WINI held a work shop in Capetown. For three days, the group, consisting of architects and WINI employees, went into retreat to concentrate on achieving this goal.

Develop a new table system in just three work-ing days? Impossible! Yet the WINI Workshop in Capetown proved that it can be done. The unconditional commitment of the architects who were invited to participate laid the foun-dations for the success of the workshop.

However, without the willingness of the WINI developers to constantly re-evaluate their own work and to openly embrace the perspective of the architects present, WINEA PRO would not have become what it is today. The method behind the workshop was simple: Each group, consisting of three architects and one WINI employee, focussed on a different problem. With intense concentration, they evaluated proportions, functions, height ad-justment or frame shapes. At intervals of two hours, the elements were discussed by the workshop as a whole, and points of intersec-tion between the problems were worked on.

Then the participants once again retired into their working groups. The moderator provided encouragement, made corrections, kept the groups on track and moti-vated where necessary. At the end of the work-shop, the desired product functions had ap-proximately taken on their fi nal form – and the participants’ sketch books and note pads were full of a wealth of ideas. All who took part in the workshop will remember these days as a phase of intense concentration – interspersed with un-forgettable memories. The days were fi lled with hard work, an intensive exchange of ideas and unique architectural and personal experiences.

Für uns in der Montage ist WINEA PRO eine komplett neue Herausforderung gewesen. Alles ist feiner, aber trotzdem montage-freundlicher. Der Steh-Sitz-Tisch hat eine vollkommen andere Mechanik als unsere sonstigen Motortische. Die Abschaltung mit Piezo-Technik ist besser für uns, weil Fehler-meldungen angezeigt werden, alles program-mierbar ist und damit Fehler gar nicht mehr möglich sind.Mit den neuen Montagevorrichtungen kön-nen wir uns die Teile in die ideale Höhe zum Verschrauben bringen. Alle häufi gen Arbeitsgänge werden mechanisch unterstützt und mit der neuen Arbeitsorgani sation und dem Vorkommissionieren entfallen Lauf- und Such-Wege. Wir WINIs freuen uns über den großen Rah-men vertrag mit Audi, auch wenn deshalb unser Arbeitstag manchmal zehn Stunden hat, denn unsere anderen Kunden wollen wir ja weiter-hin mit drei Wochen Lieferzeit bedienen.

WINEA PRO was a completely new challenge for all of us in assembly. Every detail is fi ner, but more assembly-friendly. The mechanics of the stand-sit table are completely different from that of our other motor-driven tables. The switch-off system with Piezo technology is better for us, because fault messages are displayed and ev-erything is fully programmable, which means that mistakes are no longer possible.The new assembly equipment allows us to bring the parts to the ideal height for bolting. All frequent work processes are supported me-chanically, and the new job organisation and pre-picking system means we no longer have to spend time running around looking for the things we need. We at WINI are delighted about the framework contract with Audi, even if it means we some-times work a ten-hour day because we are de-termined to still offer our customers delivery within the customary three weeks.

We set particularly high standards with regard to the value of WINEA PRO. Not only the design plays an essential role. It is also important for us that our products are user-friendly. To ensure that this is the case, the WINI designers invested a great deal of time in the development of details.

Die Intensität des Entwurfs- und Planungspro-zesses hatte auch während der Konstruktion von WINEA PRO Bestand. Mit akribischer Ge-nauigkeit erarbeiteten WINI-Produktentwickler die Details des Tischsystems. Sie stehen zu-sammen mit den hochwertigen und komplett recyclebaren Materialien sowie dem ausge-zeichneten Design für die Wertigkeit des Pro-dukts. Die durchdachte technische Umsetzung ist von außen freilich nicht zu sehen. Lediglich ein schlichter Knopf lässt erahnen, was sich im Inneren abspielt. Dort sorgt eine extra ent-wickelte Kugelführung für einen spielfreien Lauf von Innen- und Außenprofi l. Dazu trägt auch die enge Passung des Innenzahnrads zur führenden Zahnstange bei. Der Auslöserknopf besteht aus einer Kombination aus Zinkdruckguss und der Funktion ange passten Stählen. Er wird in einer eigens angefertigten Stahlbuchse geführt, die eine lückenlose Anbindung an die Stahlprofi le gewährleistet. Eine integrierte Feder sorgt für ei-nen wahrnehmbaren Druckpunkt und lässt den Knopf automatisch zurückschnappen und damit das Tischbein arretieren.

The intensity of the design and planning process could also be seen in the construc-tion of WINEA PRO. WINI product develop-ers painstakingly defi ned the details of this table system. Together with the high-quality, completely recyclable materials and the con-summate design, these details stand for the value of our products. Of course, the carefully thought-out technical details are not visible from the outside. Only an unassuming button hints at what goes on inside. There, a special-ly developed ball track ensures that the inside and outside profi les run smoothly and free of play. This is also supported by the tight fi t of the internal gear on the leading toothed rack. The operating button is made from a com-bination of die-cast zinc and steels specially treated to suit the function. The button rests in a specially manufactured steel bushing which ensures seamless connection with the steel profi les. An integrated spring provides a perceptible pressure point and causes the button to snap back into place, locking the table leg in position.

With its WINEA PRO offi ce furniture system, WINI has not only won one of the most prestigious design prizes in the world, the red dot award: product design 2010, but was also nominated for the design award of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Seit über 50 Jahren gibt es ihn schon, den red dot award: Er ist mittlerweile einer der renom-miertesten Designpreise weltweit. 2010 gelang es WINI, mit dem modularen Tisch system WINEA PRO im Bereich Product Design die Jury für sich zu gewinnen. Das System stach unter den mehr als 4250 vorgestellten Pro-dukten aus 57 Ländern nicht nur durch sein innovatives und zeitloses Design hervor. Der zusammen mit namhaften Architekten ent-wickelte WINEA PRO bietet ausgehend von wenigen Grundelementen – Tischplatte, Beine, Mitteltraverse und Dock – ein nachhaltiges, langlebiges und komfortabel zu bedienendes System, das für die Gestaltung aller Berei-che des Büros eingesetzt werden kann: vom Einzelarbeitsplatz über die Konferenzberei-che bis hin zum Chefbüro. Der red dot award hatte sogar eine Nominierung für den „Preis der Preise“ zur Folge: den Design preis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Bereits 2006 wurde das WINI-Tischsystem WINEA FOCUS vorgeschlagen. Nun freut sich WINI über die Nominierung des WINEA-PRO-Systems für den Designpreis Deutschland 2011.

The red dot award has been presented for more than 50 years: It has become one of the most prestigious design awards in the world. In 2010, WINI convinced the jury with its modular table system WINEA PRO in the category Product Design. The system was selected from among more than 4250 prod-ucts from 57 countries, and not just because of its innovative and timeless design. With just a few basic elements – tabletop, legs, central spreader bar and dock – WINEA PRO, developed in cooperation with well-known architects, offers a sustainable, durable and easy-to-operate system for all areas of the company: from individual workplaces to conference areas to the executive offi ce. Af-ter winning the red dot award, the system was even nominated for the “big prize”: the design award of the Federal Republic of Germany. The WINI table system WINEA FOCUS already received a nomination in the year 2006. Now WINI is delighted with the nomination of the WINEA PRO system for the design award of the Federal Republic of Germany 2011.

Direkt nach Einführung des WINEA-PRO- Tisches konnte WINI den Automobilhersteller Audi als neuen Kunden gewinnen. Zuvor aller dings musste sich das Familienunter-nehmen einem internationalen Produkt- und Her steller ver gleich stellen. Entscheidend für den Erfolg des Büromöbelherstellers waren die überaus einfache Handhabung, die maxi-male Funktionalität, die Stabilität und das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Zudem erfüllt das Tischprogramm die neuesten Normen und wird höchsten Ansprüchen an Design und Funktionalität ge recht. Das individuell für Audi entwickelte Möblierungskonzept besteht außerdem aus Schrankelementen der Serie WINEA KUBUS, Rollcontainern sowie dem Bürowandsystem WINEA FORMAT.

Directly after introducing of the WINEA PRO table, WINI received fi rst orders from auto-mobile manufacturer Audi. However, before this was possible, the family-owned com-pany had to prove itself in a comparison with international products and brands. The main features which spoke in favour of the WINEA PRO were its extremely simple han-dling, maximum functionality, stability and the price-performance ratio. In addition, the table range conforms to the latest standards and meets the highest requirements with re-gard to design and functionality.
