The translators were divided
into six teams. Each team
worked on part of the Bible. As
each part was finished it was
read aloud; others listened
and checked for mistakes.
The translators wanted the
Bible to be correct and to
sound good.

Psalm 23:1-4 from the King James
Bible
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his
name's
sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort
me.

Psalm 23:1-4 Modern paraphrase
You, LORD, care for me like a shepherd cares for his
sheep.
You give me everything I need:
You give me food to eat, water to drink and a place
where
I can rest.
You give me strength deep inside.
You lead me in the right way as you said you would.
I may go through dark times of deep distress
but I won't be afraid for you are with me,
making me feel safe.
