Makybe Rise News
Hello Makybe Rise Families We are very nearly halfway through our final term and just the other day someone told me ‘only 7 weeks ‘ ll Christmas!’ The busiest me of the year is a good reminder to think ahead and put plans in place so that everything gets accomplished on me.
One of the things I like to get done early is buying uniforms for the following year and avoiding those queues come the end of January. Our uniform shop is open every Monday a ernoon and Thursday morning.
In the weeks to come, teachers will be wri ng end of year reports and mee ng with the parents of students who have a documented plan. This can be a good me for other parents to consider booking a mee ng with your child’s teacher to talk about how the year has gone.
Right now, we are planning for classes in 2017. If your child is not returning in 2017, please let us know as soon as possible.
There are so many wonderful Makybe events to look forward to this term. Next week is the last week of Round 1 of our P&C funded pre-kindy program. Round 2 commences in Week 6.
Friday night on 11 November is the P&C Summer Disco - a night not to be missed! Tickets are on sale right now!
Parents of students currently in Kindy and who have enrolled at Makybe for Pre-primary in 2017 are invited to an informa onal orienta on mee ng on Wednesday, 16 November in the undercover area at 2.10pm.
At the end of term, Makybe Rise is entering into a contract with a new provider for before
and a er school care. Helping Hands staff will be at school on Thursday, 17 November to talk to parents about this new service. Short informa on sessions will be available at 2.30pm and 6.30pm.
On Saturday, 26 November, our P&C are hos ng our most favourite event of the en re year; the Makybe Rise school community Christmas Party! This year is all set to be bigger and be er than ever. School gates will open at 9am un l 12pm. No children will be permi ed entry unless accompanied by an adult. Bring the family and come along to celebrate our wonderful Makybe community. There will be free rides, ac vi es and a visit from Santa for children and a mini Christmas market, and coffee for adults! Check out the P&C FB page for more details.
We are proud of our new opportuni es for students offered by our generous staff. Lately students have enjoyed our a er-school First Aid club, classical guitar club, gaelic football lunch me compe on and appren ce program for 2017 Playground Champions.
Next year, Makybe Rise PS will be introducing a school SMS system which will replace the school app. This new system will automa cally send an SMS to parents if your child is absent from school. Parents can also use it to let us know when your child will be absent. Keep an eye out for more details!
Enjoy the sunny weather, remind children to bring water bo les to school and keep an eye out for the canteen’s Pokémon special coming soon!

Principal’s Message
Room 37 have been working super hard in Science this year and we have had a lot of interes ng discussions on all of the lessons in our classroom. In Week 3 of Term 4, Room 37 students have been developing their knowledge on living and non-living things. To begin they learned that the defini on of living was: things that move, respire, grow, need nutri on, respond to s muli, reproduce and excrete. The students worked in groups to make a list of living and non-living things. Students then shared their lists with the class. The boys and girls compared the living and non-living things and discussed the similari es and differences between each. Students then worked together to group the living and non-living things into categories and they displayed their informa on in a venn diagram. The students then drew, coloured and labelled pictures to represent living and non-living items. Have a look at their awesome work below. Sharon O’Gorman Classroom Teacher
Room 37 Scien sts of the Future
Earlier this year, Isla Hartley, a Year Two student from our school entered the George and Ernes ne Forster Essay Compe on run by the Rockingham District Historical Society. Recently, Isla found out that she had won the first prize in her age category! In order to write the essay, Isla had to interview her nanna, Kerry Cross, about her me at school. In doing so, she found out some very surprising details. Isla noted that when her nanna was in Year 1, she a ended a school that had only 14 students; this is very different to our school. Isla also found out that some things had remained the same when comparing schools in the past to schools in the present day. One of the things she no ced was that children s ll love to play the same games; chasey, monkey bars, hula hoops and netball. The picture is of a Grade 3/4 class at Serpen ne Primary School when Isla’s Nanna Kerry was a student . Sacha Garre Classroom Teacher
Well Done Isla!
The overall focus in Health this term is safety and we are covering topics from road safety, water safety, first aid and sun safety. We learned about the effects the sun can have on our skin and what measures to take to prevent ge ng sunburned. The Year 5 and 6 students were asked to create a jingle to promote being sun smart. We collabora vely brainstormed what elements we find in a jingle and collected what kind of sun smart informa on and vocabulary we want to be highlighted. In small groups, students had some me to decide on a tune, a style, write the lyrics and if they wanted to include any movements. Following this crea ve process, we made me available for presenta ons. The finished products were outstanding and showed a great understanding of what we have learned about being sun smart. Remember, slip, slop, slap, slide and seek in the upcoming warmer months. The Health Team
