Arrest

An arrest is the deprivation of a person6s liberty by lawfulauthority to compel that person6s appearance to answer acriminal charge or to comply with a ;udgement of a court.

• (nder ection 15(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code CPC1an arrest may be made in the following manner2 #a1 by actually touching the body of the person to be

arrested< orb1 by actually con ning the body of the person to be

arrested< orc1 where there is submission to custody by word or action.

Thus a person arrested is entitled to ask thereasons for his arrest as well as to which police station he isbeing taken to. The police must bring a person arrestedimmediately to the nearest police station and nowhere else.
