some cash to last for about a month (maybe £600) while you wait for your bank account to be opened and money to
be sent in.
laptop is a highly recommended device to bring as it is very expensive to buy here. Other devices would be camera, MP3 and don’t forget their chargers as well!
& some of your A-Levels books are sometimes useful for your own references. Only basic stationaries like a couple of pens and pencils will do
because then you can get yourself a very fancy and cool set of stationaries here.
toothbrush, shower foam, etc.

a few pairs of clothes and
sweaters just for you to keep warm for a couple of weeks because then you will start to wander around the town (for shopping of course!) and get yourself lots of better and
affordable clothes. Bring along a few pairs of your traditional clothes because we do celebrate some special events which definitely requires those clothes here.
a compass to show
the direction of qibla especially for Muslims to pray. Bring along your prayer mat and “telekung” (for girls).
it is highly suggested for
you to bring your own supply of medicine from home. We do get sick easily here especially during the changing seasons.

Liverpool is a very cosy city which means that it isn’t too big nor too small neither. You can find loads of halls, apartments and even private houses near the Uni area. Here are the top-lists and ranking of accommodations chosen by us.

*There are other halls than these, but don’t bother about them. They are rather too expensive, too crazy, too noisy and even too far away from the Uni area.

Private Accommodation
The list is very long since they are tons in the city and new ones are sprouting like mushrooms. So, we are just listing out a few that are the most popular. Please note that private accommodation requires you to pay full or half upon registration unless you have a UK guarantor.

Houses
We suggest leaving this as your final option. They can be cheaper than the other type of accommodations depending on how you manage your household. You may live with your friends and have a nice housing experience. However, remember this. Outside the city area, many people considered Liverpool as a black area. We do not advise freshers to stay here. Wait until you know your way around before you consider staying in a house in Liverpool.
*For Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) students, basically you guys can just choose from these ranges of halls except for the first option (because it is specifically for UoL students only). The schools in LJMU are spread out in the whole city of Liverpool! So you just have to make a wise decision to choose a hall close to your own school. Discover them yourselves but don’t worry because we will assist you guys for the whole house-hunting session until you have a place to stay. =)

Here are the top three places we personally prefer and most importantly, halal for Muslims.
Perhaps the most interestingly named fast food store in Liverpool; “Bazooka”, as we call it, offers a good range of meal deals including
burgers, kebabs, pizza and chickens (as the name suggests) but maybe most notable for its lamb rib. During lunch time (1100 to 1500 hrs), it boasts the most competitive price for a complete meal, at just £2.00,
making it the place to go for a lunch outside.
Multan is a small store selling a wide variety of snacks and quick meals like hot dogs, chicken wings, and also packed lunch like ‘nasi beryani’.
Situated in the heart of the campus, Multan is perfect for a quick lunch, rushing between classes.
Location : 9-11 Ranelagh Place, L3 5SB.
Budget : £2.00
Chicken Bazooka
Location : 11 Oxford Street, L7 7HA
Budget : £2.00 - £3.00
Multan Food

Quick Chef
Location : 49 Hardman Street, L1 9AS
Budget : £3.00 - £4.00
Despite the name, the emphasis here is not on speed - it’s not another fast food restaurant. Quick Chef serves English food with a
Mediterranean bent. You can get a full english or a pizza or a roast chicken, the list goes on. It has something for everyone and with a very
good portion. The nice ambience inside it provides a pleasant dining experience despite its unpretentious setting. Plus, it is still considered
one of the cheapest restaurants here, suitable for students.

Once you’ve reached the home of “The Reds”, fear not! Because
You’ll Never Walk Alone! You will be accompanied by your seniors
to go for shopping for your basic needs in your hall.
Here are the ranges of stores you’ll find in Liverpool to get stuffs
like duvet cover, pillow, pail, etc.
For serious shopping, here we have the well-known Liverpool One
and loads more variety of stores. You just name it!

To have a bank account is a major thing as it will keep your money
for as long as your stay here. For Muslims, it is advisable for you to
open an account which does not give you any interest as this kind
of interest is called “Riba”. So here are the lists of banks that will
provide that special requirements:-
HSBC Amanah Lloyds TSB
Whilst for non-Muslims, you can open an account at any bank you
like that will suit your preferences and here are the lists of banks
which are situated in the UoL campus:-

Liverpool has one of the smallest Malaysian communities in the UK.
Thus making us very closed to each other and we do have some
interesting events held here especially when there are celebrations
like Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year and Deepavali. To
organise those events, we have these organisations which are
specifically made for us, the proud Malaysian!
Liverpool Malaysian Society (LMS)
Malay Speaking Circle (MSC)
Kelab UMNO Liverpool (KUL)
