Introduction to Printing

This document gives basic directions for printing. The directions are mostly for Microsoft Office products. There are many options for printing and this document does not even try to explain all of them.

Since the principles of printing apply to all programs, you can generalize from these directions.

Sign in ScreenWhen you sign in to a computer, this screen tells you that PaperCut is running and the computer is ready for printing. PaperCut is the printing control program. Ignore the dollar amount in the box. If the box in the upper right is not present or the icon is not in the bottom tray, then ask for help.

Type Your Document

Create and edit your document.Click on File in the upper left when ready to print. Screen shot is from MS Word.

Print Menu

• If desired, choose your settings.

• All print jobs are sent to Academic Printer.

• Print jobs are limited to 10 pages. For longer jobs, you must divide document into groups of 10 or fewer pages or print multiple pages on each side. Note: 20 pages printed double-sided will count as 10 pages.

Print Job Was Sent

After your job is submitted, this screen tells you the number of pages and the cost. Each side cost $0.05.

This box at the bottom right of your screen tells you the job is in the queue and you can go pay and retrieve it.

Retrieve Printouts

• All print jobs from the Library computers and Academic Support computers are sent to the same virtual printer – Academic Printer.

• You may retrieve your jobs from any printer release station.

Print Release Computers

Printer release station 2 is attached to this Canon printer.

Printer cards are optional.

The same card works in the tower for the printers and photocopiers. You may activate your CCC ID to use as a printer card.

Payment towers accept coins, bills, or printer cards.

Payment Tower for Canon Printer

The payment tower accepts bills, coins or a printer card. Change is returned. Printouts cost $0.05 per side.

Printer cards are optional.

The same card works in the tower for the printers and photocopiers.

Do not use pennies.

• To print documents from Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides in Firefox or Safari browsers, first download a copy of your file as a PDF or format of your choice. Click on Print then Download to.

• One alternative is to copy and paste document into Microsoft Word.

Alternative 2 is to click on file then print. This menu will open. Choose to save file or open with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

• In your PDF viewer (usually Adobe Reader on Library computers) go to the File and then Print. If you choose another format, that program should open the file.

• Choose your print settings from the menu that opens.

• Follow general instructions for printing and retrieving documents.
