HISTORY Created in 1982 in Merced, California
Robert Alkema & 5 friends decided they wanted to start building custom ski
boats
Malibu was focused on working outside the limitations of the industry. As a
brand new company, not bound by tradition, it was not necessary to copy
others. Malibu made a point of adding special finishing touches to their boats
that tradition-bound companies wouldn’t consider.
In 1988, Malibu opened a 2nd plant in Loudon, Tennessee
In 1994, Malibu opens a 3rd plant in Australia

THE SELLING PROCESS
Each year starts in July
Dealers get “slots”’
Order boats based off of previous years sales
If they sell all their ordered boats, they
have to “beg” for more
If they sell less, they either have to pay for
the boats themselves and keep them in
inventory, or give them to other dealers to
sell
It takes 7 days for a boat to be fully
created
