What is a mammal?A mammal is an animal that possesses the listed characteristics:

HairThree middle ear bonesMammary glandsIs warm-bloodedGives live birth to young

Mammals can live either on land or in the water. They have lungs that help them to breathe whether they are walking on land, or swimming in the water. Mammals have adapted their bodies to be able to live in different places. This means that a mammal most likely has flippers to swim, or legs to walk. Where do mammals live?

A mammal is classified as one because it has hair on its body. It also has three middle ear bones that help with hearing. A mammal is warm-blooded which means that it usually has a high body temperature. Another part of a mammal is that female mammals have mammary glands to help feed their young. Mammals also give live birth instead of laying eggs.

Yes, humans are mammals. We are because we live on land like other land mammals. We also have hair all over our bodies to keep us warm. Our body temperature averages 98.6 degrees, meaning we are warm-blooded. Female humans also have mammary glands just like animals. Are humans mammals?
