CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Sport Management is a growing fi eld with many career opportunities. Participation in sport for health, for leisure, for education, or for entertainment continues to occupy an increasing share of human endeavor throughout the world. The Sport Management degree leads to careers in management and administration of sport or recreational programs in the following areas:

• College and professional sport or athletic organizations• Community recreation• Sports facility management• Public relations and marketing for college and

professional organizations• YMCAs and YWCAs• Fitness centers and Health clubs

The discipline of Sport Management applies to the business of sport in all of its many facets. It includes the planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating within the context of a sport organization. The program provides the theoretical and practical framework for a number of professions that focus on leadership roles, including youth, amateur, and professional sports; recreational, college and university sports programs; and the marketing and management of all sport and fi tness-related goods. The primary goals of the program are to develop an in-depth understanding and working knowledge of planning, organizing, leading and evaluating events and projects within sports or fi tness organizations. Students also will develop into competent leaders for the various professions that focus on sports and fi tness. This major is also good preparation for graduate school in the areas of sport business and business administration. Sport Management is very closely related to traditional business operations (marketing, management, promotion, facilities, and events management, etc.).

The Bachelor of Science in Sport Management can lead into an MBA or Masters in

Sport Management.
