PREFACE

The main purpose of this ebook is to enable MP3 collectors with large or small collections

alike to carry out the managing of their MP3 collections systematically using the available

freeware. What is meant under the term ‘managing’ in this ebook is organizing,

customization and fixing, organizing is arranging systematic file storage, file naming, simple

database and playlists, customization includes properly doing the tagging and conversion of

MP3 files, whereas fixing includes volume normalization and trimming of MP3 music as

necessary. In every part the motto is simplicity.

The freeware selected in this ebook are Windows operating system based and author’s

preferences, they might not necessarily be the best ones, which is in anyway very relative

and subjective, but that the author and many others feel satisfied using them.

This ebook begins with the brief history of sound recording from the Edison’s tin cylinder era

up to the digital audio recording, then focuses on the topic of this ebook, which is MP3,

starting with its basics like file structure, bitrate and quality. All descriptions are made in asimplified way, not too technical and avoiding mathematical expression as much as possible,

with other words limited only to real necessity. As such it shall be suitable for everyone.
