MANGERE EAST PRIMARY SCHOOL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER Monday 21st October 2019 A message from our Tumuaki / Principal – Mrs Stephanie Anich Kia ora t ātou te wh ānau Mt Smart Athletics Day Reminders - Whole School - Tuesday 22nd October. 1. All children are expected to attend this day as it is part of our curriculum. 2. All children need to bring enough food and water for the day as no food will be sold at Mt Smart. Fruit will be available. No juice, fizzy drinks or lollies please. 3. Hats are a must. Sunblock will be available at Mt Smart. 4. School uniforms are to be worn to and from Mt Smart - children can compete in their own shorts and t-shirts. 5. Children must compete in trainers/shoes for throwing events, but trainers or bare feet are allowed for track races, long jump and high jump. 6. Make sure that everything they bring with them is labelled/named. 7. No child is to leave or go home with parents unless they see the child's classroom teacher. A teacher will be stationed at the gate and parents will need to sign in a notebook on the way out. 8. Parent’s Bus - If you are catching the bus, please turn up at Yates Road at 9am with your ticket that you purchased from the school office. Unfortunately, there are no more tickets left. A separate notice came home last term and you can find it on the ‘notices’ page of our school website. All Parents Hui / Fono - Wed 30th October - all now 5:45pm start with sausage sizzle, 6-7pm We are continuing to extend our opportunities for parents/whānau to regularly meet together to find out, share and discuss things related to their children’s time at school. Children welcome. Bring a friend / neighbour! Whānau Māori (not just Te Poho o Rāwhiti) - Whānau Centre Samoan Fanau (not just O Lou Ala i Malo) - Phoenix Building (shared space) Tongan Fanau - School Hall Cook Islands Kōpū Tangata - Room 6 Niuean Magafaoa - Room 7 International (open to anyone) - Room 5 VALUES - We would like to update our signage so that it reflects some of the other languages at our school. Please bring your ideas to our Parent Hui. FA'AALOALO - RESPECT - Mrs Leonard, the principal of Jean Batten School was visiting our school on Thursday, and heard a voice behind her saying, “Excuse me, can I help you?”. Mrs Leonard was so impressed that a student did this without prompting. Tau kē Solomona ! ATTENDANCE Week 1, Term 4 Last week we only had 6/24 classes achieve our attendance goal of 90%+. Congratulations R16 for achieving last week’s highest rate of 94%.

NIUEAN LANGUAGE WEEK Fakaaue Fakaue lahi to our Niuean community who shared their culture with us last week. Thanks to Whaea Lingi and Whaea Mana for organising our Niuean children to perform.

HATS & WATER BOTTLE - Our $15 bucket hat is available from the school office.

CONGRATULATIONS - TODAY’S PR4L ‘Tu Meke’ AWARD WINNERS!

Today’s winners are: Jonty (R14), Jackson (R14a) and Umiazah (R17)

MEPS RADIO - our radio station now operates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1:15-1:30pm. You can listen to it by going to our Facebook page where it will be live streamed subject to any technical hitches.

MĀNGERE SCHOOLS REHU TAI ORAL LANGUAGE FESTIVAL Congratulations to all our speakers: Shaziyana, Eliyzah & Brouqlyn (Y5&6) and Moli, Allentakai & Vuka (Y7&8) who delivered informative and passionate speeches. Special mention to Allen who came 2nd in his competition! A huge shout out too, to all the classes who came to the Rehu Tai to be our audience. Our visitors were very impressed with the way that they demonstrated our value of RESPECT.
