Interprofessional Education:

“…occurs when two or more professions learn with, from and about each other to improve collaboration and the quality of care…and includes learning in academic and work-based settings before and after qualification, adopting and inclusive view of professional.”--- UK Center for Advancement of Interprofessional Education, CAIPE, 2006

What is MaHSSA?Established in January of 2007, we are

comprised of 12 health sciences programs and faculties at the University of Manitoba

We are committed to the promotion of communication and collaboration early in training and throughout lifelong learning

Serve as the umbrella organization to house student-led IPE initiatives at the University of Manitoba

FACTS: Interprofessional

Education (IPE) should begin in pre-professional years

It is known that IPE shapes collaborative practice and improves quality of care

Separate curricula at the U of M emphasized a team-based approach, however, minimal contact between the programs

IPE eqiups students with the tools necessary to provide team-based care within healthcare settings

SOLUTION….MaHSSA An body needed to promote and

advocate for IPE in the province of Manitoba

An umbrella organization to house IPE initiatives and programs

A body to provide professional development and social networking opportunities for students in the health sciences

A body that strives to promote an environment of trust, acceptance and understanding of health disciplines’ training, scope and expertise with an emphasis on the importance of patient-centered care, patient safety and quality improvement

Why is the Manitoba chapter important?
