JANUARY 2020

On Tuesday 12th November, a bush fire raged through the Killabakh village and up the mountain, destroying many homes. It also completely destroyed the Rhema FM transmitter hut, along with all the equipment (pictured above). Thankfully the mast and antennas survived the blaze. But the task at hand was to replace the hut, along with the transmitter, link and other equip-ment, along with cables to the mast. Power poles near the transmitter site were also destroyed, and only replaced in mid-December. Obviously Rhema FM was “off air” but we were working hard to continue broadcasting the good news

On Monday 30th December, our new transmitter hut (pictured below) was towed to the site and the power re-connected and we were back “on air”.

commit, delight, trust, fear not, rest in the Lord. Read it. It is worth the read and meditating on its depth. Let it be a source of encourage-ment and enrichment as we launch ourselves into the unknowns of what promises to be a wonderful and prosperous year. It is up to each of us to make that conscious decision to endure, persevere and win our race. An athlete does not give up if he is to receive the prize. He pushes through the pain. We all need to decide that we are going to win. We have an assured future eternally. Don’t be robbed of that inheritance. With Christ as our coach we cannot lose. Psalm 37:5 “Commit your way unto the Lord; trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass.” My prayer is that as 2020 marches on (as it will) each of us will deepen our walk and commitment to God, who loves like no other. Continue to pray for the team at Rhema, particularly as we recover from the loss of the transmitter building and transmitter during the fires of last year. Pray for Mark and his family, that they will be blessed and sustained. Pray for the announcers, that they will be blessed as they share their time with you on the air. Pray for the listeners that the word of God will

These are encouraging words as we enter this momentous year of 2020. Most of us are suffering hardships (some more than others) particularly following the recent bushfires and seemingly endless drought. All of us are concerned for the future that awaits us considering the current economic scene, the events and dan-gers on the world scene and the ever present awareness of our own health and wellbeing. What is ahead? Where is it all lead-ing? Is God really in control of this worldwide drama? Sometimes the scene just seems too much to bear. We are reminded in Ecclesiastes 3:1 “For everything, there is a season.” Note, a season has a beginning and a season has an end. This present sea-son will end. Meanwhile let’s place the issues that engulf us on the One who cares. Seek solace in Him knowing that He has our greater interests at heart. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to “cast your anxi-ety on Him, because He cares for you”. Take a few moments each day to replenish our sanity and peace in Him and thus life. Let whatever it is, go. Give it to Him. That’s what He wants us to do. Trust. Psalm 37 is an excellent resource to begin with. “Fret not” it opens with,

“The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” Isaiah 58:11 (NIV)

CHAIRMAN’S DESK encourage and challenge as it is pumped into the airways of this dis-trict. Pray for the musicians who have dedicated their lives to the Lord and to the ministry of music that they have been blessed with. Pray that the words and music will be effective tools in bringing many to the wonderful saving knowledge of our loving God. Pray for the Board as they are faced with issues and decisions. Pray for God’s peace and direction in all aspects of this radio ministry. God hears our prayers. God bless and encourage you.

FIRE UPDATE We have been overwhelmed by the response from so many people regard-ing our transmission equipment being destroyed. Many have offered financial support to get us back “on air”. The hut and contents were covered by insurance, although we still have not received any reimbursement from them with all the costs so far covered by us. At our most recent Board meeting, someone commented on a reasonably healthy account balance. Another then commented that it was for a reason. If it were not for the generosity of so many over the years, we would still be “off air” waiting for money from the insurance company. God has been so good to us and His faithfulness endures forever.

SPONSORS When we discovered the destruction of our transmitter hut, and realised that we could not broadcast for many weeks (or months), we contacted all our sponsors. Each one committed to continue to support us during this time. We want to thank our sponsors who faithfully support this ministry, many from the beginning. Without their financial help, we would not be able to continue to broadcast the message of hope in Jesus Christ. All our sponsors have Christians who own or manage the business. We encourage our listeners to support our sponsors. There is a list inside this newsletter, and on our website. For as little as $55 per month, your business (or church) will help keep us on air. We are hoping to in-clude more information about spon-sorship on our website in the near future. If you are an owner or manager of a business as a Christian, we would love to hear from you. Or you may know someone in business from your church. Please speak to them about becoming a sponsor of Rhema FM 106.5. Call us on 6553 0116.

PROGRAMMING We appreciate your comments and ideas on the programming and music that is aired by Rhema FM Manning Great Lakes. As a community radio station, we want to meet the needs of the local area, so we appreciate your feedback. Our address is: Rhema FM Manning Great Lakes Shop 5 97 Isabella St (PO Box 246) Wingham NSW 2429 Phone: 6553 0116 Fax 6553 0117 Email: [email protected]

It has become increasingly difficult for us to provide copies of programs requested by our listeners. With postage costs and logistics with the copying, another alternative is to get them from the program providers directly. Some have the programs for free to listen on the internet. Rhema Newcastle have a website called “Rhema Catch Up” where they have their programs available for those who want to listen again. Go to www.rhemacatchup.com where you can hear programs such as Focus on the Family, Legacy Radio with Derek Prince, Enjoying Everyday Life with Joyce Meyer, and Insight For Living with Chuck Swindoll. If you are unable to access a pro-gram you want to hear again, and want a copy, we can still do that for you. Any donation towards the cost would be most appreciated.

TOP 100 Over the past few years, Rhema FM have played the Top 100 songs for the previous year on “Today’s Christian Music” charts on the public holiday for Australia Day. It will happen again this year on Monday 27th January. From 9am to 6pm, we will countdown the best Christian music from 2019 . We will still play our usual programs as well.

LICENCE The Board of Management of the Manning Great Lakes Christian Broadcasters have applied once again for a Temporary Broadcasting Licence with the Australian Communications & Media Authority. Our current licence expires on 15th March. Please pray that we can continue broadcasting the message of hope to this area. Many ask us about getting a permanent licence. You may be inter- ested to know that Rhema Newcastle recently renewed their permanent licence which needs to be done every five years. It took them 17 weeks, with the document consisting of 456 pages containing 98,367 words. Maybe a six page document each year for a temporary licence is easier.

MEMBERS Over the last few years, we have posted our members their copy of this newsletter along with “The Word For Today” in January. About half of our members usually have them deliv-ered to their church. However, some people change from one congregation to another without informing us. If you would prefer to have this material dropped off at your church, please let us know. It now costs $2.20 to post each one. Also for those people who get mul-tiple copies of “The Word For Today” for church groups, please come into our office at Shop 5 97 Isabella St, Wingham, to collect them.

FINANCES God continues to meet our needs. We would like to remind you that all unallocated donations made to the Manning Great Lakes Christian Broad-casters (Rhema FM) over $2 are tax-deductible. If you would like to elec-tronically transfer money, the bank-ing details are: RAB Account No: 500017880

BSB No: 932-000 Please note that these details have now changed with the Holiday Coast Credit Union merging with Regional Australia Bank. Important: Please make sure that you include your details (i.e. name) so that we can easily account for money transferred into our account.

It is easy for us to take things for granted. We live in a great country. We have a roof over our heads, and even air-conditioning to keep us cool. It is when we lose something, or it is taken away from us, do we feel loss. A regular listener to Rhema left a message on the phone at the office saying that not having this Christian radio station to listen to was like having a hand cut off. A member, who lost their partner while we were off-air, was the first to send through an email saying how great it was to have Rhema back, and this was even before we put it on Facebook. Out of the ashes, hope has risen. We look forward to many more years broad casting the hope we have in Jesus. I want to thank our technician John Shackleton for all his work. On a lighter side, as this newsletter was being compiled, I celebrated my 60th birthday. I was only 36 when I started volunteering at Rhema. May God’s blessing be on you all in 2020.

OUT OF THE ASHES From the Station Manager

As you can imagine, the news of our transmitter hut and equipment being destroyed by fire was devastating. Recently at a working bee, a new floor was installed in the hut. We had even purchased a brand new transmitter recently to replace the old one which had served us faithfully for a couple of decades. It was also in the burnt ruins that confronted us. For a few days, there had been a song playing over and over in my head. It was my favourite worship song from 2019, by Bethel Music called “Raise a Hallelujah”. It spent a few weeks at #1 20 Countdown Magazine. It is also on our Rhema playlist. The bridge of the songs says “Out of the ashes, Hope will arise”. It was this line that was going around and around in my head. This was just days before we realised how destruc-tive the bushfires had been. It was the Holy Spirit whispering to me to not be discouraged, but trust God!
