pants who are the heart and sole of our fund-raising initiative that helps keep the Museum operating throughout the year.
The 22nd Annual Gour-met Sampler held at the Manteca Senior Center proved once again that Manteca has great food, beverages and outstand-ing local support for the Historical Society and Museum.
We estimate that nearly 300 people turned out for this 22nd event, and we don’t believe anyone left hungry that day.
Many thanks for the sup-port from our dedicated Volunteers who helped invite our wonderful food and beverage es-tablishments, including transporting and deco-rating their booths. Ad-
ditional thanks goes to our loyal supporters who provided prizes and bas-kets for our raffle, and naturally to our ticket buyers and raffle partici-

LETTERS TO GRANDKIDS
This group has really caught on as members try to keep the communication channels open with our young people, who will carry on our history and ways of life. We have from 8 to 16 people participate on a monthly basis. Does your grandchild know what a ringer washer was used for, or have they ever seen a pair of roller skates that clipped to their shoes? Have fun with our group on the 3rd Thursday each month at 1:00pm at the Museum! Bring your Grand-child ex-periences to talk about!

As the outgoing President
of the Manteca Historical Society, I have many spe-cial memories over the past six years that I could write about. The most important point, I think, has been my privilege of being associated with, and working with such a great group of volunteers. The Museum is truly blessed to have so many great indi-viduals that give of their time and effort to the Mu-seum because they love it,
and what it means and pro-vides to the city of Mante-ca. They also are involved because they enjoy the friendship of others who feel the same about the Museum.
Many changes and accom-plishments have taken place over the past few years because of the ac-ceptance of challenges and the “can-do” spirit of the Board of Directors and Do-cents. The Manteca com-munity has also stepped up and provided help when-ever the Museum took on
the major projects, or needed help in other ways. The community has also provided great finan-cial support with annual Memberships and special fundraiser attendance.
The 2014 calendar year is off to a great start with the hiring of Clancy Rog-ers, as Museum Manager, the completion of the Gourmet Sampler and our Membership Drive. Now, as I step down as Presi-dent, you have elected a full 21 member Board of Directors, with Dave

For Excellent Service
Board member, Anita Handley was presented a trophy for top honors for recruiting new members for 2014, by membership chair, Dave Winegarden at the March board meeting.
Outgoing board member, Alan Marsden, was present-ed a plaque for service by president, Leon Sucht, also at the March board meeting.
Come join Museum members and friends on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 1:00pm. Sub-jects are chosen for an enjoyable gab-fest. There are many who are long –time Mantecans, and oth-ers who want to hear about the early days. Time is also set aside for “Show and Tell”, when people bring out pictures and small artifacts. The next session is on April
15th. Starting off , the discussion will be about the Museum’s first News-letter, Volume 1, Number 1. The headline read, “Today’s Events, Tomor-row’s History”. It featured an article about the Muse-um’s new 1st home at 214 Poplar Street.

TEXAS LONGHORN
This skull was donated by Leo Omlin of the Rolling-O-Ranch. Leo has lived on the ranch in Manteca since the day he was born. Leo’s parents immigrated from Switzerland in 1927 and moved to the ranch in Manteca in 1934 where they started a dairy. In 1959 Leo’s dad passed away, Leo and his mother Herminia continued to op-erate the dairy until Leo bought out his mother in January 1965. In Novem-ber 1966 Leo sold the dairy cows and started to raise Texas Longhorns cattle and named the Ranch “Rolling-
