1.0 MEANING OF SAFETY SIGNAL WORDS

A safety related message is identified by a safety alert symbol and a signal word to indicate the level of risk involved with a particularhazard. PerANSI standard Z535.4-1998 the definitions of the three signal words are as follows:

WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result indeath or serious injury.

CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minoror moderate injury.

CAUTION

WARNING

DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in deathor serious injury.

DANGER

2.0 SAFETY

Kinks in supply hose may reduce water flow and cause injury or death to persons dependent onwater flow. To avoid kinking, do not force hose below minimum inside bend radius or route hoseacross sharp corners. When this hose is used on a dry hydrant or fire truck, it is recommended

WARNING This equipment is intended for use by trained personnel for firefighting. Its use for otherpurposes may involve hazards not addressed by this manual. Seek appropriate guidelines andtraining to reduce risk of injury.

Do not apply pressure to TFT Hard Suction Hose. This hose is designed for suction use ONLYand will leak or decouple under pressure. Leaking or decoupling will reduce water flow andcould cause injury or death to persons dependent on it.

Hose must be properly connected. Mismatched connectors or damage to the hose orconnectors may cause leaking, which may prevent the pump from achieving or maintainingprime. Lack of water flow could cause injury or death to persons dependent on it.

3.0 CORROSION & USE WITH SALT WATERAll aluminum parts are hardcoat anodized and all fasteners are stainless steel for corrosion resistance. Occasional salt water use ispermissible provided the hose is flushed with fresh water and disconnected after each use. The service life of the hose may not beshortened if the hose is flushed thoroughly. The effects of corrosion can be minimized by good maintenance practices. See Section 5.0for maintenance.

4.0 INSTALLATION AND USETFT is intended for fire department use as a pump intake water supply line in interior and exterior areas. This hose isintended for conveying water from open water sources such as dry hydrants, lakes, rivers and pools. This hose should not be used todeliver potable water.

TFT Hard Suction Hose is designed to be flexible, allowing easy connections to dry hydrants and pump intakes. As a result, the hoselength decreases as vacuum is applied. The expected length variation is 1% per PSI (15% per BAR). Make connections to propercouplings on each end of the hose. To avoid kinking, do not exceed the minimum inside bend radius listed in the table below.

Hard Suction Hose

5.0 MAINTENANCEThis hose should be disconnected after each use, as well as cleaned and visually inspected inside and out at least once each month.Moving parts, such as couplings and levers, should be checked for smooth and free operation and lubricated with silicone-based greaseto block moisture. Replace any missing or damaged parts before returning hose to service.

Minimum inside bend radius values given are for exterior hose surface closest to center of bend.

Hose diameter Minimum inside bend radius at 72° F (22°C)

1. Band may be used from bulk roll as thiscompletely eliminates waste of band. Slidebuckle on band as shown, bringing end ofband around object to be clamped andagain through buckle.NOTE: The tension screw thread should belubricated regularly.

2. Continue band around object oncemore and again through buckle.Double banding develops a great dealmore radial compression than singlebanding. Bend end of band underbuckle.

3. Place band in open of tool nose andgripper block. Move into slot as far aspossible, to avoid buckle sliding into toolnose. Apply tension by turning handle oftool.

4. Place finger on BAND-IT Band at bucklebridge while tensioning with tool handle. When you feel BAND-IT Band stop movingthrough buckle as you are turning handle, maximum pressure is being exerted by theBAND-IT Band around object beingclamped. Stop turning handle.

5. Roll tool over buckle, backing off withtension handle throughout entire rollingoperation. Failure to back off with tensionhandle through-out entire course of roll-over may result in breaking of band. There is no loss of tension as bandreleased is used up in the bend.

6. Pull cutting handle to cut the band.

7. Remove tool, holding stub of banddown with thumb.

8. Hammer downbuckle ears to holdband stub in placeto complete BAND-IT clamp.

Polymer Strip

Items required: Required for Coupling

change: Replacement coupling, port plug

or port cover, Dow 112 grease, pointed

pin/seal pick, pliers, polymer strip removal

tool THA401, cup seal and lockout ball. All

items are supplied in our coupling

replacement kits.

Step #1) Using the seal pick or pointed pin, remove the port plug or port cover, which

is used to cover the access port to the polymer ring.

Step #3) Insert THA401 into port as

shown, with hook side up. Engage with

polymer ring.

Step #4) Pull the polymer strip out gently

so the end of the strip does not break off.

It may help if the coupling is rocked back

and forth or rotated.

Step#6)

Step #7)

Remove coupling, cup seal and

lock out ball if present.

Clean entire exposed surface of

any remaining grease and debris.

INCORRECT CORRECT

Step #8) Install cup seal as shown above.

Apply grease to the cup seal only.

Step #2) If the coupling swivels, rotate till

the end on the polymer ring can be seen

through the access port. The ring can also

be moved with the seal pick if required.

If the coupling does not rotate, it is locked

out with a stainless steel ball (Photo #9).

The end of the polymer ring will be in

position for removal.

Step #5) Once the strip is exposed by

several inches you may remove using

pliers.

Step #10) Push coupling on completely. If

lock out ball is being used, note alignment.

Step #11) Insert polymer ring into the port

with the blunt end first.

(Note: Hook end goes in last.)

When inserting in a Storz coupling, spray

the polymer ring with BreakFree before

assembly.

Step #12) Install polymer ring fully. The THA401 may be used to insert the strip the last

2 inches.

Step #13) Use a degreaser to clean the

area of the port is the cover type is used.

Use short end of the THA401 to assist in

the installation of the port plug. Install till

flush.

Step #14) Install port plug or port cover.

Step #9) If desired, install lock out ball.

Apply a small amount of grease to the ball

pocket to help retain the ball in position.
