Inserting batteries1. Open the battery cover.
2. Insert the supplied batteries according to the direction indicated in the battery compartment.
When inserting or removing the batteries, push them towards the battery terminals.
3. Close the cover.
Note:
Remove the batteries if the remote control
is not be used for a month or more. Batter-
ies left in the unit may leak and cause
damage.
Replace all old batteries with new ones at
the same time. Do not mix old and new batteries.
Replace the batteries if the operating
distance is reduced or if the operation
becomes erratic. Purchase 2 AA size
batteries.
Keep the remote control away from moisture,
heat, shock, and vibrations.

cancel.
5. REPEAT
In the DVD function, press to repeat the entire disc or
individual chapter/tracks.
6. A-B
Repeats playback between A and B. Press once to insert
A point and press again to insert point B. If you want to
cancel the function, press this button again.
7. RETURN
Press to cancel certain selections in the disc menu
system.
8. SHUFFLE
In the DVD function, press to cyclically select random
playing or normal playing .
9. SETUP
Press to display system setup menus and press to
exit the setup menus.
10. MENU/PBC
In the DVD function, press to view the disc menu for the
currently loaded DVD (if available).
11. TITLE
When playing a DVD disc, press to go back to the title
menu of disc.
12. SUBTITLE
In the DVD function, press to select the desired subtitle
language (if available).
13. LANGUAGE
In the DVD function, press to cyclically select the desired
audio language (if available).
14. ARROWS / ENTER
Press Arrows button to navigate the on-screen menus.
Press Enter to enter and confirm menu settings.
15. BOOKMARK
In the DVD function, inserts bookmarks for the current
application. There are total 8 bookmarks that you caninsert.

CONNECTIONS
Connect Antenna/Cable
Follow these steps to connect the system. It isrecommended that you turn off power on all
components (or unplug AC power) while you are
connecting the system.
Antenna / Basic Cable
Remove the aerial cable plug from your TV set and insert it
into the aerial socket at the back of the unit. Plug one end
of the aerial cable into the TV socket on the unit and other
end into the aerial input socket on your TV set.
RF Connection
Connect the RF Out jack on the unit to the aerial input jack
on the TV . The RF Out jack passes the signal through from
the aerial jack.

Connect Your TV
Connect the unit to your TV.Select one of the following examples.
Connecting to the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT jacks
Connect a component video cable as shown below. You
can enjoy high quality picture images.
(For Audio connection, see page 14)

If you use a TV with Progressive Scan capability, setthe unit to the Progressive mode.
Progressive Scan Video provides the highest quality pic-
tures with less flickering.
l If you are using the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT jacks,
but are connecting the unit to a standard television, set
Progressive Scan to OFF.
l If you are using the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT jacks
with a connection to a TV or monitor that is compatible
with a progressive scan signal, set Progressive Scan to
ON and Video Output set to YPbPr (Detial see page
21). To setup Progressive Scan ON or OFF, please fol-
low the instructions below:
1 Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray.
2. Press STOP button on the remote control or front panel
5 times continued, and the video output is setting to
Progressive Scan. The P-SCAN icon on the VFD will
turn on.
3. In the same way, press STOP button on the remote
control or front panel 5 times continued to set Progres-
sive Scan OFF. The P-SCAN icon on the VFD will
turn off.
Note:
Once the setting for progressive scan output is entered,
an image will only be visible on a progressive scan com-
patible TV or monitor. If you set Progressive Scan to On in
error, you must set back it to Off.

First-Time Setup
l After press Enter to confirm, the system will auto-matically scan and set the tuner channels. (It will
spend several minutes.
l If you want to stop scan channel, please select Can-
cel.
6. The Set the time will automatically appear on your
TV/monitor. Use up/down arrow button to select Auto-
matic or Manual. And then, press Enter to confirm.

If the Auto feature sets the clock incorrectly, you can
set the clock manually.
Note:
l If you dont set the Clock, the VFD display is always
00:00 on Standby mode.
l If the power cord is unplugged for over 10 minutes, the
unit will go back to original default setting. Please re-
set Clock setting.

CONNECTIONS
1. Make sure that the antenna/cable is connected. Forconnection.
Note:If you plug in the unit before you connect the an-
tenna, Channel Search will not be able to preset channel
into memory. If this occurs, check the cable/antenna con-
nection and plug in the unit again.
2. Connect the unit s power plug to an 230V/50Hz electri-
cal outlet.
3. Press STAND BY on front panel or POWER on remote
control. If you are First-Time Setup the system, please
l Turn on your TV.
l The message screen will appear. Please follow the
message to do first-time setup.
About Standby Mode
l The system is always in Standby mode when the AC
power cord is plugged into an electrical outlet.
l In Standby mode, the clock is shown on the front panel
display and standby indicator light turns on.l In power on mode, the system status is shown on the
front panel display and the standby indicator light turn
off.
4. The Set your language will automatically appear on
your TV/monitor. Use up/down arrow button to select
your language. Then, press Enter to confirm.
5. The Country Setup will automatically appear on your
TV/monitor. Use up/down arrow button to select your
country or select ALL. Then, press Enter to confirm.

The Setup System allows you to set Guide Language, SetTime, Factory Reset and Country Setup, and view the Sys-
tem information.
1. Press SETUP.

The Setup Video allows you to do Channel Screen, CannelSetup, and to set Screen format and Video Output .
1. Press SETUP.

all channels that you can receive. This may take several

Speaker Setup
The Speaker Setup allows you to select the Speaker size,
level and delay time. To setup speaker, follow the instruc-
tions below:
1. Use the arrow key to highlight Speaker Setup.
2. Press the right arrow key. The list of Speaker screen
will appear as below.
3. On the screen you can use the arrow key to adjust
speaker size, level and delay time.
l Size - To select your speaker is small or large and
Subwoofer is on or off.
l Delay - To set your delay time of surround speaker to
0~15ms; to set your delay time of center speaker to
0~5ms.
l CrossOvr - To set your Cross Over of front, center and
surround speaker to 80~200Hz.
l Test - To do testtone for your speakers.

Dynamic (Dynamic Range Control)With the DVD format, you can hear a program s sound-
track in the most accurate and realistic presentation pos-
sible, thanks to digital audio technology. However, you may
wish to compress the dynamic range of the audio output
(the difference between the loudest sounds and the quiet-
est ones). Then, you may listen to movie at a lower volume
without losing clarity of sound. Set DRC to ON for the ef-
fect.
Equalizer
The Equalizer allows you to adjust the equalizer sliders to
the level you want to use.1. Use the arrow key to highlight Equalizer.
2. Press the right arrow key. The equalizer screen will ap-
pear as below.
3. Use the arrow key to adjust the equalizer sliders, then
select SAVE.
4. Press SETUP to exit.

(96KHz).
1. If your sampling frequency of disc is 48KHz, please se-
lect 48KHz; if your sampling frequency of disc is 96KHz,please select 96KHz.

The Setup Record allows you to set Record Quality, AutoChapter and Schedule Record.
1. Press SETUP.

Record Quality
The correct recording quality will automatically be selected
during playback. But the system still allows to set Record
Quality you desire.
DVD Auto Chapter
When recording starts, the chapters in the title are madeautomatically on the disc by this setting. You can set Auto
Chapter to Off, 5 Min, 10 Min or 15 Min.
Schedule Record
Follow these instructions to set the system to record up to
16 recording sessions.
l Programming a recording without the Show View
system
1. Use the arrow keys to highlight Schedule Record.
2. Press the right arrow key. The list of Schedule Record
screen will appear.
3. Select an empty field by using arrow keys.4. Press the right arrow key again. A setup screen will
appear.
5. Use either the 0-9 or up/down buttons to complete other
related setting.
l The Freq field can be entered as a date for one time
recording by entering the Month/Day/Year by use the 0-
9 keys, or using the up/down arrows to scroll through

Format HDDInitializes the HDD (Hard Disk Drive). Everything recorded
on the HDD will be erased.
To format the HDD, follow the instructions below:
1. Use the arrow keys to select Format HDD.
2. Press4to highlight the Start button.
3. Press the ENTER button on the remote control to acti-
vate your selection.
4.A dialogue screen will display with the textFormatHDD?.
5. Choose YES to format the HDD. Your unit will start
formatting you HDD, and a progress bar will be displayed.
6. Choose NO to not format the HDD.
Scandisk HDD
A utility that checks the integrity of data stored on a hard
disk drive, identifies problems, and where possible puts
them right.
To scandisk the HDD, follow the instructions below:
1. Use the arrow keys to select Scandisk HDD.
2. Press4to highlight the Start button.
3. Press the ENTER button on the remote control to acti-
vate your selection.
4. A dialogue screen will display with the text Scandisk
HDD?.5. Choose YES to scandisk the HDD. Your unit will start
scandisk your HDD, and a progress bar will be displayed.
6. Choose NO to not scandisk the HDD.
Note:
l Finalized DVD:
With a DVD+R, youll record material onto the disc,
then in order to finish and play back your recording you
must finalize it on your DVD recorder. Once you
select Finalize , a table of contents is automati-
cally written and the discs contents cannot be editedor erased.
The Setup Disc allows you to set language preferences(Audio, Subtitle, Menu) and edit your DVD+RW disc (Ini-
tialize and Finalize).
1. Press SETUP.
2. Use the arrow keys to select SETUP > DISC.
3. Use the arrow keys to select and set the following:
Audio Language
Sets your preferred language for DVD audio soundtracks.
Language vary from disc to disc. The disc itself may over-
ride your selection.
Subtitle Language
Sets your preferred language for Subtitles. Languages varyfrom disc to disc. The disc itself may override your selec-
tion. Select OFF to always turn Subtitle off.
Menu Language
Sets your preferred language for DVD disc menus.
Language vary from disc to disc. The disc itself may over-
ride your selection.
Auto Play
Select ON or OFF. When you insert a disc in the tray and
close, if you set the function ON, the disc will automatic
playback without press PLAY key.
Format DVD
Select Start to format DVD+RW disc. The unit will clear all
contents on the disc.
Finalize DVD
Select Start to Finalize DVD+R disc. Even if one or more
titles have been edited, a DVD player may still show the
original title. You can prepare your disc so that a DVD player
will be able to read the edited title. Once the DVD+R disc
has been finalized no further recordings or changes can be
made.

v Selecting Functions
The first step in using the system is to select one of the seven basic functions.1. SOURCE
Press SOURCE, you can select TV, SCART, S-VIDEO1, AV1, S-VIDEO2, AV2 and DV
function.
SCART/S-VIDEO1/AV1/S-VIDEO2/AV2 is to watch and/or listen to an external device
connected to the front panel or rear panel.
If you want to change source function form d isc playing mode, please press STOP twice,
then p ress SOURCE to select other function, such as SCART, S-VIDEO, DV and so on.
IF you want to playback d isc form other sou rce functio n, please press PLAY/PAUSE.
Then, the unit will start to p layback disc.
2. DV Function
Press DV to watch/record DV function.

Playing a DVD, CD or VCD
1. Power on the system.
2. Press OPEN/CLOSE on the front panel or remote controller to open the disc tray.
3. Place the disc in the tray with the label side facing up. If the disc has two sides,place the disc with the desired side facing up.
4. Press OPEN/CLOSE again to close the disc tray.
5. When the disc drawing closes, if the system does not automatically, press PLAY/
PAUSE to play.

Use the followings keys to navigate DVD disc menus.
l MENU/PBC Press to display the disc menu for the currently loaded disc.
l 3/4/5/6 Press to highlight options in the disc menu.
l ENTER Press to confirm selections in the disc menu.
l 0-9 Press to make direct selections in some disc menus.
l RETURN Press to display the previous menu or to exit the disc menu.
Additional Disc Playback Options
l To freeze playback, press PLAY/PAUSE.
l To advance on frame at a time when paused, press step.
l To resume normal playback, press PLAY.
l To skip to next or previous chapter/track, press: or9.
l To visually scan forward and backward at variable speeds, press8or7.
l To play in solw motion, press SLOW.
l To stop playback, press STOP once. To resume playback from the same place on the disc, press PLAY. To stop
playback completely and restart the disc, press STOP twice.

Note:If there is no disc loaded, icon will appear on the screen when press RECORD.
1. During playback, press MEDIA to select DVD or HDD.

v Recording to DVD+R/DVD+RW Disc
1. Power on the system.2. Place a DVD+R or DVD+RW disc (label facing up) to be recorded on the disc tray.
If a blank disc is used for first time, MAGNUM logo will appear on the screen.
If the disc is recorded before, a title menu screen may appear.
Note:Blank DVD+R may take a while longer to play.
3. Select Source (TV, S-VIDEO, AV1, AV2 or DV IN) you want to record to DVD+R/DVD+RW disc.
4. Press MEDIA to select DVD function (recording to DVD+R/RW disc)
5. If you want to change Record Quality, press REC MODE to select Record Mode.

v Timeshift Function
Do not miss a scene from a live broadcast. For instance, when you enjoy a live show, you can press this button to stop thatprogram anytime if you need a break. After you come back, you can continue watching that program from the point you stop
without missing any spectacular part as the recorder has recorded the content while you are away. (When in the timeshift
mode, the system starts recording to the buffer on the HDD and will start playback from the same buffer.)
1. Press TIMESHIFT to record to the buffer on the HDD and the frame will be frozed on the screen.
2. The frozen frame stays on the screen until presses PLAY button to start timeshift playback.
3. In timeshift mode, still can use the common playback controls such as PAUSE and BACKWARD/FORWARD.
4. Press the DISPLAY for timeshift progress bar to appear.
5. Press the DISPLAY again to close timeshift progress bar.
6. Press STOP to stop timeshift function and to do normal playback.
Jump to Start during Timeshift
l Press the PREVIOUS button to jump to the beginning of the timeshift.
Jump to End during Timeshift
l Press the NEXT button to jump to the end of the timeshift, which is live television show.
To Exit the Timeshift
l The timeshift mode is ended when press the TIMESHIFT or STOP, changes the channel or video source, or invokes any

v Copying from HDD to DVD+R/+RW
From the HDD title screen you can select a title to copy to DVD .1. Press the MEDIA on the remote to select HDD mode, then press PLAY on the remote control to list the titles on the
HDD.
2 Highlight the selected title by5/6 arrow keys.
3. Press the4 key. Another screen will appear on the right side with the choice of either DELETE or DUBBING.
4. Press DUBBING if you want to copy the title to the DVD disc from the HDD.
NOTE:Make sure there is enough free space in the recordable DVD disc.
vDeleting title from HDD
From the HDD title screen you can select to delete the title form the HDD.

When a recording is made to disc, the following additional informa-tion is also stored at the beginning of the recording:

If no name has been allocated to the TV channel, only the

Using the EDIT menu you can edit content on unfinalized DVD discs. The editing feature available in the menu depend on
whether you are editing original content from the unit. Once a disc has been finalized, further editing is not possible. But you
can still select titles for playback.
v Managing the Disc Chapter
Insert Chapter
Chapters are useful for quick navigation to certain point in the content.
The: and9 buttons on the remote control offer quick navigation to
these points in the content.
1. Select title to play.
2. Press ENTER to start playback.
3. Press the EDIT button to call up the on-screen EDIT menu.
4. Once you are at the point where you would like to begin, select
the Insert Chapter.
5. Press ENTER button.
6. You can tell a new chapter is inserted by pressing the DISPLAY
button, which shows the chapter number has increased.
Hide Chapter
By default all chapter are visible. Chapter (such as commercials) can be hidden during playback or made visible again.
To hide a chapter:
1. Navigate to the intended starting point of the content to be bidden.
2. Press EDIT button on the remote control to call up the on-screen EDIT menu. You will see an icon on-screen with the
word Hidden while this chapter is being played back.
3. The Hide chapter feature automatically stops at the next chapter mark.
4. Once a chapter is hidded, it will not show up during normal playback on this unit or on a regular.
5. You can play hidden chapters by press the EDIT button on the remote control when you are in the Title screen and select
Play Full Title.
6. When the content that is hidden is played in this mode, a box with the word Hidden appears on the screen.
7. To unhide a hidden a hidden chapter, simply press the Delete ChapterorShow Chapterfeature while in playback
mode in the beginning of the chapter.
Change Thumbnail
The Change Thumbnail creates a new thumbnail in the title for you easy select.
1. Select title to play.
2. Press ENTER to start playback.
3. Press the EDIT button to call up the on-screen EDIT menu.
4. Once you are at the point where you would like to be a new thumbnail, select the Change Thumbail.
5. Press ENTER button to execute.

Erasing a TitleYou can erase individual recording form a disc. Follow the instructions
below:
1. Press the STOP button or during playback press TITLE.
2. Using5 or6 select the title to be erased.
3. Press EDIT button to call up the on-screen EDIT menu.
4. Select the Erasing Title and then press ENTER to execute.
Protecting the Title
To Prevent an important recording form accidental recording or being accidentally erased, you can protect the title.

Make Compatible
Even if one or more titles has been edited, a DVD player may still show the original title. You can prepare your disc so that a
DVD player will be able to read the edited title.

Finalizing DVD+R discs:
The feature is required to play back a DVD+R disc in a DVD player. Once the disc has been finalized no further recordings
or changes can be made.
Play Full Title
You can still play hidden chapters by pressing the EDIT button on the remote control when you are in the title screen and
select Play Full Title.
Edit Title Name
If you want to rename title, you can select this item to key in new name. Please follow the instruction below:
(1) Use the arrow keys to highlight Edit Title Name.
(2) Press right arrow, a keyboard appear.
(3) Use arrow keys to key in new name.
(4) Select done to confirm.

Angle
Some DVDs contain scenes filmed from multiple angles. To select the angle you wish to view:
1. Press ANGLE when you see the Angle icon appear on screen during DVD playback
2. Continue to press ANGLE to select among all available angles on the disc.
Note:Angle of the picture changes 3~5 seconds after pressing ANGLE button.
Repeat
To repeat a Title, Chapter or Track:
1. Press REPEAT once to repeat the current Chapter or Track.
2. Press REPEAT twice to repeat the current Title or Disc.
3. Press REPEAT three to turn off the Repeat feature.
A-B
To designate range repeat playback.
1. Press A-B during playback at the beginning of the section you want to repeat (Point A)
2. Press A-B again at the end of the section you want to repeat (Point B).
3. To return to normal playback, press A-B again.
SHUFFLE
To shuffle playback CD disc
1. Press SHUFFLE to do random playback.
The unit will automatically select tracks at random.
2. To stop shuffle playback, press SHUFFLE again.
Title
When you play a DVD that contains several titles, you can select the title you want using the title menu.
1. Press TITLE to display the disc title menu (if available).
Sometimes pressing TITLE will open the disc menu.
2. Using the arrow keys or the 0-9 buttons to select a title for playback.

When receiving a SAP broadcast, to change the audio output mode:
1. Press AUDIO to cyclically select stereo audio mode SAP audio mode monaural audio mode inwatching SAP
broadcast.
Zoom
To zoom in during DVD playback:
1. Press ZOOM during DVD playback to display the scene at %200 %400 %800 normal size.
Note:In Divx file playing, Press ZOOM to display the scene at ZOOM OFF ZOOM ON.
Sleep Timer
The sleep timer will turn off the system automatically after a predetermined length of time.
1. Press SLEEP once to schedule the system to turn off in 15 minutes.
2. Press SLEEP repeatedly to extend the sleep timer to 30, 45, 60, 90 or 120 minutes.Press SLEEP until OFF appears to turn off the sleep timer.
3. The system will shut down when the time has elapsed.

Please make these simple checks before calling service. These tips can save you time and money.
NO POWER Make sure the power cord is inserted fully into a 230V/50Hz outlet.
Check to be sure outlet is not controlled by a wall switch.
Unplug the power cord, wait 1 minute, then reinsert the plug and push the POWER button.
NO VOLUME Make sure the correct feature has been selected (for instance, AV1 should be selected when
playing a AV1).
REMOTE CONTROL Check, and if necessary, replace batteries.
DOESN'T WORK Make sure the remote control is pointed head-first at the unit.
The remote control may be either too far away from the unit or not in front of the Receiver.
Make sure the function selected which is same as input source.
