‘Many Hearts Make a School’
During the recent good weather pupils created a
straw playground heart, complete with acorns, fir
cones, hazelnuts, and other interesting natural
bits and bobs from around the school field .
Our 2015/16 members are Max, Iwan,
Jayden, Charlie, Sam, Lyla, Taiya and Flo.
Last week their first event, a sponsored
football dribble, raised money in aid of
the current refugee crisis.

Recently we were treated to some early morning
music, courtesy of our peripatetic guitar/drum
teacher, Mr Lees. Mr Lees explained the history
of a range of instruments, including a Cuban
Cajon box drum, an Aztec Rainstick,
Spanish guitars and an electric drum
kit. Mr Lees led pupils in early
morning renditions of ‘Drunken’ Sailor’ and ‘She’ll be Coming Round the
Mountain’. Mr Lees is open to taking on new learners for either drum or guitar. Similarly,
our piano teacher, Mrs Robinson, also has limited additional spaces available.
Montgomery Football Tournament
Well done to our school football
team who performed really well during a
4 team 8-a-side tournament in
Montgomery last week!
Leighton 3 Forden 3
A spirited 2nd half comeback from Forden
saw them go 3-2 up after being down 2-0
at the interval; goals from Zac and Owain,
and some great saves from Snejana,
giving Leighton the early lead. However,
with Scott, Max and Mason keeping things tighter in defence, Owain was able to score a
super equaliser with time running out, the game finishing all square!
Berriew 6 Leighton 1
A tough game for our new team, against a
Berriew side who had clearly been playing
together for a lot longer. However, Owain
bagged his third goal of the tournament to
make sure Leighton nicked a consolation
goal, and Arnie put on a dazzling, speedy and
strong display, prompting the referee to ask
how old he actually was! Arnie’s good now,
and he’s only going to get better!

Montgomery 1 Leighton 5
A full out attacking display brought lots
of goals, Owain and Zac netting a
further two each, Leon scoring a long
ranger from midfield, and, with goal of
the tournament, Tom, taking it from
his own half, ending with a cool slotted
finish after finding himself one on one
with the Monty keeper.
Bug Hotel: VACANCIES
The school garden recently took
delivery of ‘bug hotel’, thanks to the
hard work of Noah and his dad. The
hotel apartments will soon be filled
with lots of natural, bug friendly
materials, attracting lots of visitors!
Pupils will be able to use the hotel
when working on mini beast studies.
A big thanks to Noah and dad for making the hotel – it’s
fantastic!
Healthy Schools award 2015

Schools Committee who have been awarded the Healthy Schools Award

School Uniform
Thank you to all parents for their efforts to continue to improve uniform standards. Correct uniform underpins pupil progress, setting the right tone in school for all pupils.
We would like all parents/guardians to join with the school and support our drive to attain 100% correct uniform.
We aware that some might have already purchased or obtained uniform that they felt appropriate. As such it is appropriate that some time is given over for pupils to outgrow their clothing and footwear, so that when it comes time to replace, future purchases can be made that reflect school uniform expectations.
I would therefore ask for your support so that from January 2016 all pupils are in school each day in correct uniform, as outlined below, including correct PE kit.
Girls: burgundy polo t-shirt, burgundy sweatshirt or cardigan, dark grey skirt, or winter pinafore dress/red summer gingham dress, black shoes
Boys: burgundy polo t-shirt, burgundy sweatshirt or cardigan, dark grey trousers or shorts, black shoes
In school we do have some pre-owned items that we are able to pass on should anyone wish to enquire; we would also appreciate any uniform that is in good condition, but no longer used by pupils, to be returned to school to further boost this pre-owned supply.
Thank you for your support.
