Constant Growth for BONENT Over the YearsWell, another busy year for BONENT is done and another busy year is about to begin. 2017 was BONENT’s 43rd year of operation and probably our most productive!

We Will Miss Sue CritchfieldIn 2017, BONENT lost an important member and a former Board Director. We were all shocked and saddened by the passing of Sue

Critchfield from complication of heart surgery. Sue was a great supporter of BONENT and dialysis patient care technicians in California. In addition to being a BONENT Board Director, Sue was a BONENT Regional Representative, both before and after serving on the Board and one of our busiest exam proctors over the years. Sue will be greatly missed.

Welcome to our New Board DirectorOn a brighter note, BONENT has elected a new Board Director who replaces long time Vice President, Carol Johnson. I would like to welcome Kay Gardner CHN to the BONENT Board (see her picture on page 3). Kay brings a huge amount of experience to the Board. She is presently living and working in Florida. She is currently the Director of Clinical Services for DaVita, overseeing 53 in-center hemodialysis centers and 14 home dialysis centers in Florida.

CHT Exam Applicant Experience Changes to 6 MonthsAt the November Board meeting, after serious consideration, the BONENT Board of Directors decided to change the minimum work experience required from 12 to 6 months to take the CHT exam. Effective March 1, 2018, candidates will only need 6 months dialysis patient care experience to take the CHT exam (this include LPN/LVNs).

Plan to Attend a BONENT Regional Seminar in 2018In 2017, BONENT Regional Seminars had a growth of 12% over 2016, having now completed its 17th seminar over the last 6 years. There will be 3 BONENT Regional Seminars in 2018. They will be at: - San Jose CA, April 22, 2018 - Chicago, June 10, 2018 - NY/NJ, August 19, 2018Watch the BONENT website for details as they are posted. These are always great opportunities to improve your skills and expand your network of colleagues.

Improved Media for BONENTFinally, soon after the first of the year, BONENT will have a redesigned website. It will be far better for viewing on smartphones and tablets. Also, visit BONENT on and like us on Facebook.

continued from page 1. Therefore, effective March 1st 2018, the qualifications requirement for hemodialysis technician candidates wills change to reflect the following:- The minimum work experience to sit for the CHT (Certified Hemodialysis Technologist) exam has been changed from twelve months to six months. This also applies to LPN, LVNs sitting for the CHT exams.

- The minimum work experience as a BioMed Technician to sit for the CHBT (Certified Hemodialysis BioMedical Technologist) exam has been changed from twelve months to six months.

The BONENT organization is always in compliance with federal and state requirements. BONENT recognizes that CHT is an integral part of the dialysis team. The CHT ensures the patients safety through hands on care and the technical operations of each dialysis session. We recognize the contribution they make to care for this special population and we will continue to give them the support they need to practice safety. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) stipulates that Hemodialysis technicians who perform direct patient care must achieve national certification within 18 months of hire. Whether it’s a free standing dialysis center, hospital based or a home

dialysis program, the dialysis technicians must be adequately trained and remain competent to care for this growing patient population.

New & Retiring Board MembersAt its recent BONENT Board of Direc-tors meeting in November in Clearwater Florida, RJ Picciano welcomed its new-est Board member Kay Gardner CHN, of Loxahatchee Florida. She is currently the Director of Clinical Services for DaVita, overseeing 53 in-center hemodialysis centers and 14 home dialysis centers in Florida. Her industry knowledge is a valu-able asset for the board.

Leaving the Board after 20 years is the BONENT Vice President of Operations, Carol Johnson, PhD, FNP, CPDN of Jamaica, NY. In presenting the President’s Award to Carol, RJ Picciano “recognized her your many years of valued service & commitment to the BONENT Board of Directors and the nephrology profession.”

She will remain as a BONENT Presidential Advisor.
