2019-20 STUDENT REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Student registration for the 2019-20 school year is now open.  Letters were mailed to families in a white envelope marked REGISTRATION INFORMATION ENCLOSED on Monday, April 29. This letter contains everything needed to complete the online student registration. Please note the following 2019 dates: • May 1 through May 31:  The district is pleased to offer a discounted online student registration

through PowerSchool’s Parent Portal. • August 1:  Families must register by the deadline of August 1 in order to  receive classroom teacher

assignments for Wescott and Willowbrook students and advisory/locker assignments for Maple students. The student registration process, including payment, must be complete in order for classroom teacher assignments and advisory/locker assignments to be generated.

• August 2: ePackets containing important student information (e.g., supply list, important dates, PTO, lunch) will be available on the district website and through Parent Portal.

• August 23:  Classroom teacher assignments for Wescott and Willowbrook students and advisory/locker assignments for Maple students will be posted to Parent Portal.

Please be advised of the following: • Schedule annual physicals soon as appointments fill up quickly during the summer • Classroom teacher and advisory assignments will be placed on hold until any outstanding balances

are PAID IN FULL • Outstanding balances are due and include:

◦ Lunch accounts with Quest ◦ Transportation fees with First Student ◦ Technology fees for damaged or misplaced equipment ◦ Library books/fees/fines

• Graduating Maple students with outstanding balances will not receive their diploma If you did not receive a student registration letter, please call your student’s school and a replacement letter will be made available for pick up. MAPLE SERVICE LEARNING CLUB The Service Learning Club and families celebrated the success of the 3rd annual Feed My Starving Children event last week!  The club successfully supported packing food for children in need and ended up with enough food to feed 98 kids for a year!  Great work club!

GRADUATING CLASS OF 2019 “WELCOMING ADDRESS” & “CLASS SPEECH” This is an open invitation to all current eighth-grade students... Would you like a chance to speak at the graduation ceremony on behalf of the “Graduating Class of 2019” on Tuesday, May 28?   Each year, one graduating 8th grader delivers a “Welcoming Address” and another graduating 8th grader represents their peers by delivering a class speech during the graduation ceremony. We will would like to open up this opportunity to all 8th graders! Here is what you need to do...  

“Welcoming Address” Write a speech welcoming parents, families, teachers, etc… while providing gratitude and your hope for the future. Your “Welcoming Address” should be upbeat, fun, and show the personality of your graduating classmates. Additionally, your speech should be between 2-3 minutes in length and directly address the audience and graduates in attendance. Finalists will be selected and will be required to present their speeches to our 2019 Graduation Committee. A winner will be selected and all finalists will be acknowledged during the graduation ceremony.   Please be sure to email your “Welcome Address” to Dr. Carter at [email protected] by Monday, May 6. If you need assistance in writing your speech, please be sure to check in with your ELA teacher or stop and see Dr. C.

MAPLE DEBATE TEAM FINISHES STRONG Maple’s debate team finished their season strong in their final debate tournament. Placing first as a team in the novice division: Claire Noh, Stephanie Mei, and Zoe Wang. In the varsity division: Alex Gabriel, Ryan Lim, and Jason Kim came in 7th, Yoonsol Cho and Catherine Tang placed 4th, Kalen Mehta, Darshan Kommanapalli, and Jack Miller took 2nd. Novice individual speaker awards went to Stephanie Mei, 10th place, Zoe Wang, 7th place, and Claire Noh, 2nd place. Varsity individual speaker awards went to Yoonsol Cho, 10th place, and Catherine Tang, 5th place. We are very proud of our Maple debaters. Congratulations on a successful end to the season!

SIXTH GRADE SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT As part of the sixth grade service learning project, our students were able to pack 474 bags of food for BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK, along with spending time helping at LITTLE CITY and CRADLES TO CRAYONS. All your efforts are greatly appreciated, way to go Mustangs!

an optional audition clinic on Tuesday, May 28. Incoming freshman are welcome and encouraged to attend.

LEW BLOND RUN SIGN UP IS STILL OPEN The 19th Annual Lew Blond Memorial 5K Run/Walk, 1 Mile Run will be held at 8:00 am, Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Maple School. You still have time to register at lewblondrun.org The Lew Blond Run is an esteemed CARA Circuit Race and is USATF certified. The event is among the top running events in the north suburban area. Cost or registration after April 26, Adult $35 (CARA member $30) Youth $25 (CARA Youth $20). There are no refunds for race registrations! BUILDING OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURE BRICK-BY-BRICK A playground donation of $150 or more entitles the donor(s) to have their name or family names engraved on a brick paver. Each brick includes a maximum of two sixteen-character lines of text, including spaces, added to the brick. The brick will remain outside of the Cafetorium on Maple's Patio for the life of the brick. The bricks will be installed in the fall and your memories will last forever. We ask Corporate donor(s) for a $200 minimum donation.
