Overview of curriculum map

• The medical curriculum at St Andrews is delivered via an online timetable

• We developed an online mapping tool which was based on the SDLO

• This was used to map all the taught elements of the medical curriculum

• Relatively straightforward – each taught element has a database entry

What do we do?

• We used our mapping tool to map each element of teaching to level four of the Scottish Doctors Learning Outcomes

What do we do with this?

• Once all of the teaching elements had been mapped to SDLO we could do several things:– Interrogate the data and see which LO were

covered (curriculum review)– Review the mapping against Tomorrow’s

Doctors LO

Conclusions

• Mapping the curriculum to published learning outcomes (SD and TD) makes our curriculum visible to staff, students and examining bodies

• In addition it allows us to:– Review the curriculum– Identify overlaps and omissions– Manage the teaching time more effectively
