MOROCCO PROGRAM MOBILE ULTRASOUND PATROL THE CHALLENGE Reduce maternal deaths from placenta complications in rural areas THE TECH • Portable ultrasound equipment provided to rural clinics • Ultrasound images transmitted to expert doctors • Doctors reviewed on mobile devices for expedited diagnosis • Government subsidized, cutting medical costs to mothers THE RESULTS • Time needed for images to be reviewed shortened from 4 days to 2 seconds • Waiting time to receive a medical opinion went from 2 weeks to less than 24 hours • Marginal cost of ultrasound for patients decreased 98% to $2 • 72% increase in health worker ability to deliver ultrasounds Every day, nearly 800 women die from preventable pregnancy- and childbirth-related causes. This program provides rural mothers with effective and affordable ultrasound screenings. UNITED STATES PROGRAM ONSLOW RECONNECTED THE CHALLENGE Teachers and administrators are often unprepared to integrate technology into the classroom to augment teaching and learning THE TECH • Curated educational content appropriate for students • Personal learning tablets for every student • 30 curriculum units created by teachers and technology coordinators • Students access resources for self-directed learning at home at least 3 hours per week THE RESULTS • Over 400 students from 4 middle schools in Onslow County, NC, use the educational platform • More than 75% of students report that having a tablet in 6th grade helped them become a better student • At one school there was an 80% increase in students who used technology regularly for learning, which significantly improved their learning behaviors compared to their peers not using technology Students and teachers adopt mobile-enabled ICT tools inside and outside the classroom for interactive and personalized educational experiences.
