Patrons Do Notice!Patrons Do Notice! We wanted to share a thank you letter and card that the MCX recently received from a patron when an employee went the extra mile to help them with their request. It says, in part:

“Thank you for sending the cap to Veteran Rob Mattio. I have always

known the Marine Corps family was the best. After 57 years it still holds true. The smile on Ron’s face would have been the

best recruiting tool. We just had to thank you from the

    bottoms of our hearts.”

People appreciate when you take the time to truly help them. Always remember the power of "Yes". When they make a request (as long as it is reasonable) try your best to fulfill it. And most important, always do what you say you are going to do.

To all of MCCS, thank you for your hard work! It does not go unnoticed.

Can you believe how fast 2015 is moving? It feels like I was just judging the MCCS Holiday Decorating Contest and now I’m picking out a Valentines card! I hope everyone is sticking to their New Year’s resolutions, or at least defiantly asserting their right not to have a new year’s resolution. Either way, I hope it is shaping up to be a good year for you. To that point, I would like to start us all on some common frames of reference when we communicate with one another in 2015. Many of you already have heard me reference these to help guide you through your MCCS affiliation, but for those who have not had the opportunity…

    1. Seek to understand before being understood. Remember the metaphor of the lighthouse versus the ship. Nobody is above the dangers of running into a fixed object when they don’t remain open to the possibility of being wrong. Look for the lighthouses and guard against the blind spots of authority or pride. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePi4dieDS8Y

    2. Seek to inspire one another by “starting with why.” We at MCCS do what we do for deep held Corps values of honor, courage and commitment. We should never assert that what we do is more important than why we do it. Everything we do should begin with an effort to sustain the values of the Corps. The

reputation of MCCS begins and ends with you. http://www.ted.com/talks/simon_sinek_how_great_leaders_inspire_action?language=en

    3. Be kind. When necessary be firm but fair. Respect the human dignity of one another and when confronted with someone’s failure, assume their innocence and good intentions but hold them accountable for their actions or inactions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufQpgYSDRdU

Use these three principles to begin a conversation with one another or feel free to approach me as well. I believe in MCCS and I believe we do make a difference.

    Thank you,Frank

Preheat grill to medium-high. Brush chicken with oil; season with salt and pepper. Brush grates with oil. Grill chicken, turning once, until cooked through and lightly marked in spots, 6 to 8 minutes. Transfer to a cutting board. When cool enough to handle, cut into strips.

Brush both sides of each pita with oil. Grill, flipping once, until lightly marked and crisp, 4 to 5 minutes. Spread hummus on one side of each pita. Top with chicken, tomatoes, scallions, radicchio, and feta. Drizzle with oil; serve immediately with lemon.

MEDITERRANEAN CHOPPED-CHICKEN PITAGet a taste of the Mediterranean via your grill. This is enough for four people, so if there are leftovers pack yourself a lunch (it’s delicious cold too).

  • In an effort to keep us in compliance with all of our Annual Mandatory training requirements (due September 30, 2015), here are a few convenient ways you can accomplish this.

    1. NEO - All required trainings are offered during new employee orientation. Current employees may attend to complete training requirements but must send notification to the training department prior to attending to ensure spacing is available.

    2. MCCS website - All required training can be viewed or printed for those without computer access at mccs29palms.com. Look for the “employee page” link at the bottom of the home page.

    3. Disc checkout - Managers/Supervisors may checkout the training discs from the training department. We currently have on disc OPSEC, PII, Cyber Awareness, Drug Free Workplace for Supervisors, EAP, Annual Security, Anti-Terrorism, EEO/POSH/No Fear, Ethics and Constitution.

If you have any questions about your training, ask your supervisor. Or, I can be reached at 830-4425 or [email protected]. Thank you and I look forward to partnering with each of you to accomplish this task.

    Annual Mandatory Training

By Dennis Young,Employee Development SpecialistSpring is upon us, with summer to quickly follow. You may have already

begun to pull out those sandals, shorts and sun dresses from the closet. While your wardrobe may be taking on a new look, remember, dress codes do not change in the hotter months for MCCS employees. Dressing for optimum service and success remains important all year round.

While tank tops with 1.5” straps or wider are allowed in some MCCS positions (except Food Service or CYTP programs), halter tops and any shirt that reveals lingerie or a bare midriff are not to be worn without a covering. Shorts are also not permitted, except for employees working in athletic programs and by special permission, and skirts must not be any shorter than 2” above the knee.

The definition of “shower shoe” has long been a debate among Marines and MCCS employees alike. A shower shoe is essentially a flip flop. This is as much to maintain professional attire as it is an effort to protect the feet of MCCS employees. Flip flops pose an increased safety risk.

Casual Fridays are no exception to these rules. While jeans and tennis shoes are allowed each Friday, there still are Civilian Dress Code standards to be followed, such as no rips or holes, or excessively baggy clothing. It’s always important to remember we are a customer service oriented business.

You can help MCCS be the world class customer service organization we strive to be by coming to work dressed for success. For more specifics on MCCS policies, visit www.mccs29palms.com, click on “Employees Page” at the bottom of the home page.
