Ride east on King St. out past the granite gates to the town, and to and under the overpass to the stop light. Turn right at the light to the paved shoulder on the left side of this exit ramp from the Thousand Islands Parkway. This is a less risky way to the Thousand Islands Recreational Trail that parallels the Thousand Islands Parkway. Enjoy the ride east less than 5 km east to Cliffe Rd., and turn left. Cliffe Rd. rolls north over Hwy. 401 and crosses County Rd. 2 past an abandoned wooden school, and ends at Haig Rd. Turn left onto Haig Rd. and ride west to where it ends at County Rd. 34/Eden Grove Rd., and then turn right. In about 750 metres, turn left on Marble Rock Rd. Winding and rolling along for less than 4 km is the Gananoque River. Stop before you cross the bridge to read the plaque – this will set you up for the detour ahead. Over the bridge, take a detour right on the Gananoque Lake Rd., and in 400 metres at the sharp bend turn right onto the Old Mill Rd. Shortly, you’re at the Marble Rock dam where water is controlled from Gananoque Lake to the power station in Gananoque. As you saw from the plaque, there is quite a story behind this site. Back to the Marble Rock Rd., turn right. In another 200 metres is a parking area for the Marble Rock Trail of the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority. If you’ve the time and hiking shoes, this rugged trail explores the marvelous terrain of the Frontenac Arch and was named an Amazing Place in 2016.

Marble Rock and Roll –

Gananoque Loop

The Marble Rock Rd. wends along the

Gananoque River through farms and country

homes, and ends at County Rd. 32. Turn left/south

and ride back to Gananoque, crossing the river

once again under a railway trestle and through

rolling farmland.

Back in Gananoque, County Rd. 32 becomes

Stone Street. Follow this south nearly to the St.

Lawrence, and turn right onto Water Street,

crossing the one lane steel swing bridge – which

crosses the Gananoque as it flows into the St.

Lawrence. Enjoy the waterfront, and the Arthur

Child Heritage Museum and Thousand Islands

Antique Boat Museum – and maybe refueling at

the Stonewater Pub, Gananoque Inn, Purple Door

– or other options before returning into town to the

cycling hub.

Start Location: Gananoque

cycling hub, near the Beer Store

paved shoulders.
