SALES & MARKETING PRODUCTIVITY NEWS Sell QAD DSCP and QAD TMS NOW to Help F&B and CP Lower Shipping Costs

Several major food companies, including General Mills, Tyson Foods, Campbell Soups, Hershey’s, J.M. Smucker and Sysco, have recently experienced lower profits due to higher shipping costs, particularly due to higher trucking costs. Trucking accounts for 70% of freight in the USA. What specific factors have caused costs to rise?

Increased demand for trucking due to the increase in the demand for food and consumer goods shipments

Shortage of skilled drivers Shortage of trucks, particularly trucks with refrigeration and freezers Increased demand of fresh and frozen foods Reduction in the use of preservatives, reducing shelf lives of shelf stable foods Increase in federal regulations monitoring driver hours

In addition to higher shipping prices due to the above factors, companies are often fined for late shipments. Also, products are increasingly not making it to the retail shelves on time – impacting revenues, not just costs.

How does a F&B or CP manufacturer deal with this situation besides raising prices, which can put them at competitive disadvantage against generic, private label and store brands? One way is to improve forecasting. Item/location forecast inaccuracies force the re-deployment of goods which are unexpected and unplanned costs that costs manufacturers millions.

Pricing wars is not a strategic solution. QAD DSCP and QAD TMS can contribute to a strategic solution. When speaking to your customers ask if transportation costs are impacting their profits. If the answer is “Yes,” QAD has many tools to assist companies in forecasting and for better managing transportation and supply chain that help increase profits while increasing the number of on time deliveries. Specifically:

QAD DSCP

Improved forecasting at the item/location level Better distribution planning Better procurement planning Improved production planning Sales and Operations Planning

QAD TMS

Improve transportation execution

Better manage multi-carrier shipping Delivery exception management

Controlling shipping costs is a hot topic in these industries right now. Raising this matter with customers should produce new opportunities and give us the edge on the competition.

This last newsletter (from my pen anyway) would probably be lacking if there were no mention of my move to sales with the North America team. They have welcomed me with open arms and I look forward to a fabulous FY19 and beyond. It would also be lacking without a heartfelt thank you to each and every member of Corporate Marketing which has been my QAD home since I began here. I have thoroughly enjoyed the journey and I wish all of you the best.

Now, on with the show...

Key Life Sciences Win

Surgical Innovator Finds the Cutting Edge with QAD Cloud

Verb Surgical Inc., located in Mountain View, CA, USA, works with physicians around the world to create a future of surgery unimagined a few years ago. That future involves machine learning, robotic surgery, instrumentation, advanced visualization and data analytics. That future aims to achieve improved patient outcomes, lower costs, improve hospital efficiency and empower surgeons.Verb Surgical has grown to the point where they need a full-scale ERP solution. NetSuite and QAD were the finalists.NetSuite offered essentially free software and services to persuade Verb into becoming a beta site for NetSuite’s new manufacturing module. Verb’s experienced selection team, however, understood the value of QAD Cloud and QAD’s history of dependability. They also appreciated QAD’s full set of core capabilities that applied to medical devices and liked the shop floor extensions provided by QAD Automation Solutions. Our reputation, offering and the benefits of working with our partner SIG, who are proven at executing best practices while working with cutting-edge Life Sciences manufacturers, overwhelmed NetSuite’s ploy.

Congratulations to Courtney Oman of SIG for signing the 6-figure deal and thank you to those that helped, specifically Amy Vasquez, Suzy Reno, Dane Burdette, Ray Greenwood, JoAnn Leach and Doug Novak from SIG, and QADers including Ed Boclair, Lance LaCross, Don Eakin, Steve Lamb, Mike Fagan, Jason Pickering, George Beans, Deborah Coyle and the entire QAD Cloud Team!

Weapons, Wheat and Medical Device Inventory

This QAD Blog article by Catherine Wagner discusses Medical Device company inventory challenges and the trade-offs they must make, illustrated using the classic example of “weapons and wheat.”

Picture a hypothetical country with limited resources. To make the example simple, we say that they can choose between spending their budget on some combination of defense or food production (weapons or wheat). If they start by spending all of their budget on weapons and decide they want to produce wheat, they have to produce fewer weapons. Conversely, if they start with spending all of their resources on wheat and would like to also have weapons, they must accept that they will have to have less wheat. People face trade-offs.

The Medical Device Inventory Trade-Off

No one is more familiar with trade-offs than those who work in MedTech manufacturing. Device manufacturers usually carry very high levels of finished inventory to avoid stock-outs. In other industries, such as consumer products, not having a product in stock can result in the loss of a sale. In the medical device industry, running out of an item can put patient health at risk or harm a healthcare provider’s reputation. Accordingly, medical device manufacturers make great efforts to avoid these situations.

MedTech companies, who often rely on sales reps to deliver product to the customer, most commonly try to avoid stock-outs by having their reps carry “trunk stock,” which is excess stock in their cars, garages or other similar storage places. This results in the problem of built-up inventory that the manufacturers can have a difficult time keeping track of. In addition to trunk stock, MedTech manufacturers also have extra inventory in warehouses, distribution centers, at hospitals on consignment and sometimes in storage facilities.

Carrying all of this inventory to avoid stock-outs comes at a cost. Other industries see inventory turns of 50 per year, while even just 3 would be high for a medical device manufacturer. In addition, sales representatives find themselves spending a disproportionate amount of time delivering product and managing their excess inventory rather than selling, which reduces sales volume.

Can MedTech Have Weapons AND Wheat?

Fortunately for medical device manufacturers, there are steps they can take to make this less of a binary choice. One of the easiest things they can do is leverage technology to better forecast demand and gain visibility into on-hand inventory, allowing them to carry the minimum quantities needed to meet demand on time without carrying excess. With the right software, medical device manufacturers can attempt to circumvent

Page 11: MARCH 04, 2005 - qad.com  · Web viewThe regulations all focus on where product quality can be compromised and are harmonized around the world. ... Frank Vitale and others on ...

the economic principle of trade-offs. They can have both their weapons and their wheat. To learn more, check out this infographic.

Regulatory Review

It’s all about the patient.

For this last Regulatory Review, I wanted to revisit a topic I wrote on in the newsletter from November 2016 as it's an important concept to keep in mind when working with Life Sciences customers.

In our classroom-based Life Sciences Professional training sessions, I began day one with a simple slide that listed key takeaways. In that discussion, I urged students to forget all of the acronyms like GMP, ISO, FDA, MHRA, IQ, and PQ. I asked them to ignore numbers like Part 211, Part 820, Volume 4 and 13485. And I suggested they not concern themselves with the specific regulatory bodies in the United States, Germany, China or anywhere else for that matter. But why?

Instead, I asked if anyone took medication or gave medicines to their children. I then asked if anyone had ever had a knee or hip implant, or used some other medical device like a glucose monitor. Many hands went up.

I shared with them that all the acronyms, numbers and regulatory bodies, all the efforts we and our customers undertake, are to ensure that the quality of medication or those devices is not compromised when it is made. That’s it.

The regulations all focus on where product quality can be compromised and are harmonized around the world. So despite the fact that regulations in the United Kingdom are not identical to those in Japan, they still focus on patient safety and require controls over things that can affect product quality like purchased items, incoming inspections, manufacturing, storage and distribution. That’s why we do not see regulations covering accounts payable or sales tax. An incorrect tax calculation will not affect the medication you take but a failed quality inspection could.

So the next time your head is spinning with acronyms, numbers and industry lingo, just remember:  it’s all about the patient.

COMPETITIVE BITS

C-Bit: SAP Expands Advanced Technology Efforts

SAP recently made two announcements that underscore their commitment to advanced technologies:

On March 26, SAP introduced SAP Predictive Engineering Insights, a cloud-based solution that creates virtual equivalents of physical assets to provide real-time, intelligent analysis based on sensor feeds. The solution builds on SAP’s digital twin technology which is based on its Fedem Technology acquisition. The idea is to maximize the effectiveness of industrial assets by increasing availability and performance. Customers can increase operational efficiency by connecting real-time engineering insights with other SAP solutions, including SAP Predictive Maintenance and SAP Asset Intelligence Network.

SAP announced the general availability of the application edition of SAP Predictive Analytics software to help enterprises create and manage predictive machine learning models for business applications, including supply chain, finance and accounting and customer management. SAP stated that the solution uses machine learning to provide business users with predictions about the future. Once embedded, the application can independently manage the end-to-end lifecycle of predictive and machine learning models that can adapt automatically to changing business conditions.

C-Bit: ERP Updates – No More NAV and Anywhere Went Nowhere

Microsoft recently launched Dynamics 365 Business Central and at the same time announced a roadmap change for Dynamics NAV, stating that after 2018 there will be no further “NAV” releases. Going forward, Business Central will succeed NAV. Microsoft said they plan to make Business Central the target solution for new prospects looking for SaaS ERP and that it will be used for continuity for existing Dynamics NAV customers.

SAP is shuttering SAP Anywhere, their SME solution unveiled only in May 2016. Apparently, after two years, SAP had only about 30 customers despite launches in the US, EMEA and China. SAP hoped that Anywhere would compete with ERPs running on platforms like Salesforce – Rootstock is an example. SAP will offer a refund to an Anywhere customer if the customer agrees to not to sue SAP.

Key Takeaway: Occasionally an ERP used for small companies makes it into our competitive mix, particularly for manufacturers growing and/or expanding geographically. Going forward we can cross off NAV or Anywhere as competing in any fashion.

C-Bit: SAP Announces New Pricing Model to Account for Indirect Access

SAP recently announced a new pricing model based on input from user groups, partners and industry analysts. The new approach makes it easier and more transparent for customers to use and pay for SAP software licenses. It also differentiates between Direct/Human and Indirect/Digital Access, while clarifying the rules of engagement for licensing, usage and compliance. This new model applies to SAP S/4HANA and S/4HANA Cloud and SAP ERP.

Better pricing transparency, however, is not the only reason SAP changed its pricing model. According to Reuters, “SAP is revising how it prices its core business planning software after a legal crackdown against

Page 13: MARCH 04, 2005 - qad.com  · Web viewThe regulations all focus on where product quality can be compromised and are harmonized around the world. ... Frank Vitale and others on ...

high-profile customers Diageo and AB InBev caused a backlash with its wider customer base, who feared they might be hit by hidden, indirect charges.”

Key takeaway: At this time, it is unclear what SAP's pricing changes will mean for SAP customers. Each customer will need to analyze their usage and direct access to determine the best SAP pricing alternative. With the growth of machine-to-machine and internet-connected devices, QAD may see similar pricing announcements from other competitors, particularly Oracle, moving forward.

C-Bit: Microsoft Partners with C3 IoT to Accelerate AI Development

Microsoft announced a strategic partnership with C3 IoT, an IoT and advanced analytics platform company, to deliver technology and go-to-market initiatives to accelerate enterprise AI and IoT application development. The companies plan to create a new solution fully integrating the C3 IoT Platform to operate on Microsoft Azure. The partnership will also extend to sales and marketing as the two companies hope to rapidly scale distribution globally and increase customer's time to value. Microsoft hopes that the partnership will allow customers to develop and deploy AI-based applications for transformative use cases, such as predictive maintenance, dynamic inventory optimization and CRM.

Key takeaway: Microsoft already has its own internal AI and IoT R&D projects underway – and those projects will likely end up extending the capabilities of Microsoft Dynamics 365, not C3 IoT. It appears, at this point, that the C3 IoT partnership is primarily about Microsoft Azure IaaS and related Azure cloud services. There was no mention of Dynamics in the press release.

C-Bit: SAP Announces Digital Manufacturing Cloud

SAP recently announced a new solution, SAP Digital Manufacturing Cloud, to help companies optimize performance, elevate production quality and efficiency and ensure worker safety. The new cloud solution will complement their on-premise solutions and will be available in different bundles to serve manufacturers of varying sizes in both discrete and process industries and roles within their respective organizations.

According to the announcement, the solution is expected to be available by the end of the 2nd quarter and includes the following:

SAP Digital Manufacturing Cloud for execution:  It integrates business systems with the shop floor, allowing for complete component and material-level visibility.

SAP Digital Manufacturing Cloud for insights: Provides data-driven performance management to achieve best-in-class manufacturing performance.

Predictive quality: Helps manufacturers streamline quality management and apply predictive algorithms that can reduce losses from defects.

Manufacturing network: The network provides a cloud-based collaborative platform integrated with SAP Ariba® solutions connecting customers with manufacturing service providers.

Key takeaway: It’s difficult to identify the amount of new capabilities included within this announcement compared to a basic repackaging of existing capabilities with new Industry 4.0 and digital branding. The announcement does signify SAP’s continued commitment to the cloud and advanced technologies.

DEALS FROM THE WORLD

Northwire

Northwire, Inc. celebrates over 41 years of innovation this year and is a registered woman-owned small business with corporate headquarters and manufacturing in Osceola, Wisconsin. Northwire also runs a professional sales and design engineering center in Carson City, Nevada and manufacturing site in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.

The cable engineering company is the premier partner for the design, manufacture and contract services of custom technical products including wire and cable, retractile, assemblies, connectors, harnesses, injection molding, over-molding and contract engineering and OEM for diverse applications in life sciences, energy, mil spec, industrial, machine vision, architectural lighting, underwater and more.

Northwire is a subsidiary of Lemo, which won Win of the Week earlier this month. QAD has been working with Lemo to consolidate all its units onto QAD. We proposed shifting Northwire to QAD originally in 2017. Northwire was open to the idea and we completed the following last year:

Onsite discovery meeting Onsite functional demo with Pre-sales team Implementation estimate with QAD Services Onsite proposal presentation to Northwire’s core team, CFO and management

Page 15: MARCH 04, 2005 - qad.com  · Web viewThe regulations all focus on where product quality can be compromised and are harmonized around the world. ... Frank Vitale and others on ...

Then we went into the something of a holding pattern, but recently Northwire picked us over its legacy Axiom ERP solution. In addition to ERP, Northwire signed on to be an early adopter of Production Orders, and QAD Automation Solutions will be implemented in tandem. QAD Cloud EDI will be part of phase 2.

KYB

THE COMPANY KYB Corporation is a $3 billion Japanese automotive supplier. The global leader in Original Equipment (OE) and aftermarket shocks, KYB also produces electronics and hydraulics for a range of applications in industrial equipment, specialty vehicles, aeronautical, rail and maritime.

KYB Americas, a North American subsidiary of KYB, has a regional manufacturing facility in Franklin, Indiana, from which they supply all their sales and distribution centers in the U.S. and Mexico.

THE PROJECT The KYB Franklin plant, in addition to leveraging QAD Enterprise Applications, was looking for a single, integrated application to replace the many paper-based document control processes in place. Their legacy documentation system was constantly outdated and non-compliant, becoming a major barrier to the plant’s overall operational effectiveness. The customer made the decision to implement Document Control.

The CEBOS Implementation Team made sure the product deployment resolved the customer pain points and provided users with instant visibility into the latest versions of all their documents online. As of early March, 2018, KYB Franklin is running Document Control and plans to add more users in the following phases. In parallel, they will begin to evaluate the capabilities of APQP to achieve consistency across their failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) documents, process documents, control plan and work instructions.

L&W Group

L&W Group is a leading Tier I supplier of metal stampings and tubular components and assemblies to the world’s biggest automotive OEMs including GM, Ford, Volkswagen and Tesla. L&W also supplies other Tier 1s like JCI and Inergy. The 40-year-old company has been growing steadily recently and now operates 17 facilities across four states in the USA. QAD has been their vendor of choice for ERP and quality management – QAD QMS.

L&W's core strategy centers on process improvements, and in pursuit of that objective they moved their entire business, all facilities, to the QAD Cloud in 2015. Following the successful move, the customer embarked on

Page 16: MARCH 04, 2005 - qad.com  · Web viewThe regulations all focus on where product quality can be compromised and are harmonized around the world. ... Frank Vitale and others on ...

another key initiative to upgrade their aging MQ1 client/server system to the latest QAD QMS release. It seemed like a huge undertaking to the reticent L&W.

To support L&W and similar customers wanting to upgrade QMS, Frank Vitale and others on the CEBOS R&D team developed a new utility precisely for customers to use to upgrade to the most recent HTML5-based QAD QMS. Armed with that new upgrade tool, Jamie O’Brien, Korey Roberts, Joe Keough, Gioya Bennett, Dominic Tramontana and Brian Brooks worked all weekend long with L&W to upgrade QAD QMS.

The result? L&W went live on QAD QMS 3.0 across all 17 sites, without disrupting operations, allowing L&W's users to access the system from their choice of mobile and desktop devices.

A new opportunity for you and your QMS customers: The new utility is generally available now and the L&W project proves that it works. There are 300 customers running MQ1 who can now easily upgrade to the latest cool version of QAD QMS – and no promises but maybe over just one weekend.

Mercury Marine

THE COMPANYMercury Marine is a $2.6 billion flagship division within Brunswick, a U.S. manufacturer of marine and recreation products. Mercury boasts the industry’s broadest line-up of marine engines and also offers propellers and other related marine parts to their customers worldwide. The company has global operations comprised of regional headquarters, distribution centers, test centers and 9 manufacturing plants.

THE PROJECTAs a large enterprise with complex business processes, Mercury was suffering from quality management disconnects throughout the organization. Their documents were scattered in multiple folders and drives. They could not maintain version control, and they did not have electronic review and sign-off for approvals. It was apparent that they had long outgrown their home-grown paper-based systems, and the company took decisive action.

Fast-forward eight months. Mercury Marine went live on CEBOS with 200 named and 80 additional concurrent users at all their manufacturing sites, replacing their disparate point solutions with a single integrated enterprise quality management system (EQMS). Their new quality and documentation processes reside in CEBOS Cloud.

THE BENEFITSMercury now has the ability to standardize their quality procedures globally and to realize a more consistent user experience. Their Cloud deployment affords them greater flexibility and scalability for planned future growth.

This is one of the first implementations of CEBOS’ prescriptive standard functionality, leading to a markedly reduced number of customizations for the customer. In addition, the Cloud deployment signifies CEBOS’ cloud strategy for all customers going forward.

Rani Therapeutics

The Company: The Rani Therapeutics product offers an innovative alternative: replacing injections with an oral pill. Suitable for a variety of injectable drugs, the Rani product would radically improve the patient's experience. Instead of a painful injection, patients would have a choice to take a daily pill. It is simple, easy and pain-free. Rani's Pill delivers an intestinal injection without exposing the drug to digestive enzymes. The patient takes what appears to be an ordinary capsule, but their "robotic" pill is a sophisticated device which incorporates a number of innovations, enabling it to navigate through the stomach and enter the small intestine. The Rani Pill™ goes through a transformation and positions itself to inject the drug into the intestinal wall. Rani Therapeutics is based in San Jose, CA.

The Competition: Sage X3

Why we won: Our laser focus on the Life Science Industry won the deal. The client confirmed “we speak their language”, have a strong reference base and a proven QAD Cloud offering.

Filtration Group

Filtration Group is one of the world’s largest privately held filtration manufacturers, nearing $1B in revenues and headquartered in Joliet, IL, USA. It operates plants on six continents and focuses on 4 lines of business including life sciences, process technologies, fluids and indoor air quality. It is clearly growth oriented and has been quite active on the M&A front, picking up 4 new companies since 2015. It is owned by Madison Industries, one of the world’s largest private portfolio companies.

Given the size and scale of Filtration, we hope to penetrate further into this promising account in 2018 who is currently running on SE; Filtration is a candidate for a cloud conversion. But in the meantime, we need to be responsive to their tactical needs and closely track this dynamic company that is often changing executives.

For example, well over a year ago we worked with Filtration to determine they needed more licenses and our primary contact there submitted a CAPEX request for the new licenses – that sat there. Why? A new CFO came on board who wanted to scrutinize all projects. Then this past July, due to some new bar coding requirements at a specific plant, it was obvious they needed more licenses. It still took nearly 9 more months, and plenty of professional patience, to receive the order, but we just closed a 5-digit deal. Congratulations to account manager MaryEllen Scalice and CSAM Ellen Carrigan.

THE PROJECTYamaha Motor’s Golf Car division needed to improve key aspects of their Supplier Management and Project Costing processes. The CEBOS implementation team swung into action, showing the customer how to achieve their objectives using CEBOS' strong process capabilities in both areas.

Yamaha chose to deploy 150 users of the new system in the cloud.

THE BENEFITSThe QMS RFQ system automates Yamaha’s RFQ initiation process, providing a single platform for its buyers and suppliers to manage RFQs collaboratively. As a result, they achieve greater efficiency, reduce manual errors, and have better process control and management. Yamaha has immediate access to data and performance visibility with the included dashboard metrics.

Pleased with the system performance, Yamaha is evaluating additional CEBOS modules to replace the existing functionality in their Supplier Quality Assurance area.

Michigan Turkey

THE COMPANY  A vertically-integrated cooperative, Michigan Turkey Producers harvests, processes and supplies value-added, seasoned and cooked turkey products to retail, foodservice, big box stores and other meat companies. Costco, Sysco and the US military are among their key customers.

THE PROJECTPrior to CEBOS, Michigan Turkey had a painstaking process for tracking and storing controlled documents. They had multiple versions of manual documentation on the shop floor, and they often translated their documents into ten different languages for export. The company was also looking to institute a formal, systematized process for document approval.

After identifying the need and evaluating several QMS systems, Michigan Turkey made the decision to implement CEBOS. The Document Management module template, which provides standard workflows for the creation, change, review and approval of controlled documents, was a major selling feature. They also liked CEBOS’ integration with their QAD ERP.

WHAT'S NEXTThe first phase kicked off with Document Management and has been completed. Michigan Turkey is happy to have a complete system for control and management of critical documents. Looking forward, they are already in discussion with the account team about additional modules to continue their rollout.

THE PROJECTQAD EE 2016 was selected as the global ERP solution for John Crane’s sites in the US, Ireland, Mexico, Argentina, Brasil, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia and Puerto Rico. The first step of the global roll-out was to lift their older QAD SE sites from aging hardware to the QAD Cloud.

Both Ireland and Mexico have been lifted to the Cloud. In addition to the benefits of the QAD Cloud infrastructure, there are other benefits achieved as part of the lifting projects.

1. Both projects completed on schedule with little to no impact to the businesses. 2. Local John Crane teams have learned Easy On-Boarding testing methodology and tools which will be of

great benefit as the complete their full EE upgrade projects in the future.3. Customizations, interfaces, and best practices have been developed that will be re-used for subsequent
