Cats Kick Cancer T-shirts for Sale Wear your Cats Kick Cancer T-shirt on Tuesday, March 15 when the Varsity Boys Soccer Team hosts the RBHS Gators.

LHS Model UN will be holding a St. Patrick's Day bake sale on Thursday, March 17 in the morning

before school. Items will be available in the bus loop and the lower commons. Please support LHS

Model UN! Thank you for your help and participation with the toiletry drive for the Oliver Gospel Mission! The drive is

now over, but we have been able to collect many helpful items to help those in need! Wildcat generosity is

known and has definitely been shown!

Lexington Cheerleading Tryouts Anyone interested in trying out for Lexington Cheerleading needs to pick up a tryout packet in Mrs.

Watson's room (D206) beginning Monday, March 14. Packets are due by Friday, March 18. There will be a

mandatory meeting held in the Little Theater on Monday, March 21 at 6 p.m. Please make sure you have a representative in attendance at the meeting if you plan to try out for the upcoming season. There will also be three open practices prior to tryouts for any rising 8th – 12th grader. These practices will be for anyone who is interested in trying out for cheerleading. Please wear appropriate practice clothing and have adequate shoes. We will meet in the old gym at LHS for these practices.

Wednesday, March 16 – 4 – 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday, March 22 – 4 – 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, March 24 – 4 – 5:30 p.m.

Please note: These practices are NOT mandatory. Attending these practices DOES NOT increase your chances or guarantee you a spot on one of our cheerleading teams. It just gives you the opportunity to work with other cheerleaders on skills that could be used during the tryout process.

ROTC Recruiter visiting LHS Major Ray Hammond will be visiting with LHS, Friday, March 18 during the day. If you would like to visit with him between 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. come by the counseling office. He will be glad to visit with you and answer any questions you might have about ROTC. He can discuss scholarships and specifically the four programs at USC,

Clemson, The Citadel and Charleston Southern. Scholarship Offered to Current Juniors Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation

Coolidge Scholars Program Deadline for Submission is March 18, 2016

This is a full-ride scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four year of undergraduate study and leadership training. “The Coolidge” can be used by recipients at any accredited U.S.

The Run For Her Life 5K Race is coming up on Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m. at River Bluff High School. The event will raise money for a local non-profit working to establish South Carolina’s first safe home for minor victims of sex trafficking. Registration is $20 and includes a T-shirt. Being on a performance/competitive dance team can transform your high school experience. LHS is looking for gifted, committed, and enthusiastic individuals with dance experience. Attention Students: If you are interested in other cultures, love to eat exotic food and

have a fun, exciting classroom experience then Cultural Studies Honors is the class for

you! This class is a part of the Center for World Languages and International Business

here at LHS but also counts as a elective. It is not too late to sign up or change your

schedule to take this awesome class next year. If you have any questions see

Student Athletic Trainers

If you enjoy sports, working behind the scenes, enjoy helping others … this could be a good fit for you!

Students interested in becoming a Student Athletic Trainer at LHS for next school year need to sign up in the

Athletic Training Room for an interview with Coach Leaphart before Spring Break. The job involves assisting

the injured athletes at practices, games, and in the training room. This is a good opportunity for students

interested in a future medical career. Also, any male student interested in becoming a football manager needs

ACT Testing for all 3rd year high students will take place on April 19. Please make sure to arrive on time. Specific testing details will be sent via email.

You can be one of the first at Lexington High School to answer these questions, take the AP Exam and get college credit. You may be the one to find solutions. AP Environmental Science is a great place to start and it is being offered

here at LHS for the first time next year. Climate Change has become an international issue. Career opportunities cross all disciplines and the job market is expanding faster than the temperature is rising. Get your feet wet. It’s not too late to sign up. See your Academic Advisor before March 15. One block all year, two credits, prerequisites: Biology I and Chemistry I. You can do it!

Holocaust Scholarship This is a $1,000 scholarship for graduating seniors that honors the memory of those who perished during the Holocaust. Students must submit a 750 to 1,500 word essay with a Works Cited page in MLA format addressing a Holocaust topic. Information about the topic and the scholarship can be found in the scholarship drawer in the counseling office. This essay is due postmarked by April 1 or emailed by midnight April 3. There is a portion of the application that has to be filled out by your counselor so you will have to submit the application to the Counseling office by Monday, March 21.

Attention Juniors! If you have any interest in the following schools, please be watching for opportunities in the coming weeks to be nominated for Junior Scholars for these colleges. Junior Scholar programs are offered by these colleges/universities as a recruitment tool to encourage students to attend these institutions after high school. The benefits include: invitations to attend Scholar Days on these campuses, scholarship opportunities, and application fee waivers which will help save you money when applying during your senior year! Please note that the college/university sets the criteria to be named a scholar. You will need to complete a nomination form for these schools, which will be posted on the school’s website. Come talk it out in Teen Talk! Palmetto Health encourages teens to make good choices by sponsoring weekly Teen Talk sessions during ILT and guess what, PIZZA IS PROVIDED!! Weekly Topics for discussion include: Self-esteem, Decision Making, Communication with Peers and others, Media Influence, Diseases and Myths, Responsibility and Accountability and so much more! Please see Mrs. Palmer in Counseling and Advisement to pick up your permission slip. It must be signed by a parent and returned. Meetings are every Thursday and the first session is 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. and second session 12:30 – 1 p.m. in room B210.

The Learning Commons would like to establish a MakerSpace for our students. This space will provide all LHS students a unique learning opportunity to build, create, play, do, collaborate, read, and "make" ideas to life. You can help by bringing donations to the Learning Commons. Lexington High will no longer allow after school detention to make up unexcused absences beginning this semester. SEARS will be the only option for

The Nathan M. Wolfe Law Enforcement Cadet Academy will be held at the South Carolina Criminal

Justice Academy, 5400 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC, June 18 – June 24, 2016. The cost per cadet will

be $175 and each cadet will pay a $25 registration fee to be sent with the application. Cadets must be

rising high school students of good character, age 15 to 18 who have not reached the age of 19 by June 1,

2015 who will return to their communities with a better understanding of our state's law enforcement

system. The program is educational as well as entertaining.
